Weaving on the Cricket Quartet

In this video, I share what it's like to weave on the Cricket Quartet, what I like about it, and what I think could be better.

I buy yarns from the Woolery, Gist, and Webs. You can also find cotton yarns at many craft retailers.

This loom is only available up to 13.5 inches wide. Schacht makes a loom called a Baby Wolf which is 26” wide and starts at $2200, and a loom called a Mighty Wolf which starts at $3500. Schacht does not make a 36” wide rigid heddle, but I believe other brands like Kromski and Ashford do. I am not familiar with those so cannot give information on them

Thank you for the video on this loom! Can you fold this down for transport, specifically will it fold small enough to fit under a plane seat? I am looking for one to travel on planes, ty!

Hi, thanks for your comment. This loom does not fold down. I believe Ashford and Louet make folding table loom models that do fold down. If you want one that fits under a plane seat, you'll need to have one with a pretty narrow weaving width - probably 10-12 inches. I'm not sure of the dimensions though, so be sure to check!

@@theFiberSprite Thanks this definitely helps!! I will check in to the Louets as well! I don't mind the narrower weaving width as it would be used for sampling and scarves mainly.

I have just assembled my cricket quartet onto my rigid heddle. I’m having an issue with the shafts not lowering back down level. I have adjusted the cords several times trying to center them exactly in the middle of where they attach to each shaft but still when the shafts lower back down they cockeyed. did you have any issue with that?

I had trouble getting them level with each other. I found it didn’t make much difference once I was weaving. Your problem sounds a little different than mine. It might not be a problem once you have a warp on the loom with a little bit of tension. I’d try a short test warp to see.

Thank you very much for your quick response. I figured out the issue. I’m waiting to see what Schacht says about it. Happy weaving!

    Cost?

The cricket itself is around $240, the quartet is around $500, and the stand is around $150. If you want to start with rigid heddle and later upgrade to 4 shaft, or switch back and forth between the two, then it’s worth it. Otherwise a little pricey.
