Great video, I just received my full set for my 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. I already had the windshield, but wanted the rest and WeatherTech took care of just charging me for the difference for the additional shades. They ended up sending an entire new set. I did order the bag today and that will be here next week. I will be testing them out tomorrow when I go for a 20 mile cycle ride. I planned on putting the black on the outside as well for the other than windshield windows. This video was great. I am all about keeping peering eyes from looking in. I have been a weathertech customer for years with their mats absolutely LOVE THEM.

I also want to camp in the back of my 4Runner so this will help with stealth and keep it cool inside.

Looks good, thanks for doing the video! I just ordered a full set for my 2021 Telluride. The black side looks good facing out, but I'm guessing most people won't even notice, or if they do, they'll just think it's a wrinkly budget tint job. I've got a 6,200-mile drive coming up, so looking forward to trying these out. By the way, I live about an hour from you. If you haven't already - get your windshield tinted professionally, which helps HUGE keeping the heat and UV out. My buddy owns a pro tint company for 30 years (residential/commercial/vehicles), and tons of cops use him to tint the windshields on their personal vehicles. Sooooo, no you won't be ticketed, and it's not even close to being noticeable. ;) Oddly, night-time driving with the tint isn't any darker than without it, so no loss of perception. The tint makes the world more high definition, which is great, and there's now very little glare from headlights. Awesome.

Doesn't facing the dark side out in FL make it hotter inside? I know it's more incognito, but I live in Clearwater; and want my cab as cool as possible. I also put on the smoked colored window louvers and crack my windows at night. No worries if it rains and it lowers the temp even more. If I was living in it, I'd for sure get the whole set, but for my purposes I just have the front screen. Keep up the cool videos!

Well you have to have your windows tinted first. The shades are for sleeping inside mostly except the front like when you put that up when going into work or whatever. The shade are invisible behind tinted windows so of course you want to get the tint job 1st. IMO. 😎

  • @lindasue8719

Thank you for this thorough review. I've been debating buying them (they're very expensive in Canada), but my main concern was the ripple effect when you have the black side out. I noticed here that it can be seen a bit but not as bad as I thought it might be. Also, I saw somebody else do a video and they were really big gaps around the shields which concern me because my crummy existing DIY are like that. Maybe it just depends on the vehicle and the particular covers. I noticed that yours have very little light coming through..... I guess in a pinch I can always tweak them myself if necessary. WT should be giving you a commission on these, I'm sold on buying some now, on the strength of this video!

Was thinking of getting just the windshield shade for my 2018 Tundra but after seeing what a pain it is to put it in place, I think I'll go with the cheapo "one size fits all". The cheapo's may not shut out all light, but they also don't require spending 2 or 3 minutes putting them in place every time I want to use it. They would probably be great if you were going to leave them on for several hours or days. Thanks for showing me that they aren't for me.

Great video I'm sold tim! One question: are u SURE it's cool to do black side out and still keep out heat??? So many ppl have told me reflective side out makes huge difference in keeping heat out

  • @SarasotaTim

I’m sure. I just put them up the other day here in Florida words 1000°. I had the black side facing out. My girlfriend and I were inside my forerunner parked at Walmart and it was so dark in there we could barely see. I let my engine idle while we sat and talk and just wanted to be private. In fact the front one will only go in reflected side out because of the cut out configuration of the review mirror and anti-collision camera. The other pieces can be simply reversed to fit the other sides of the vehicle so you can use them black or reflective. I always use black because behind my window tinting you can’t see them and that is for the purpose of stealth camping. I think the idea of drawing heat from the black side is a myth. 😎

Great video, Tim. I watched WeatherTech's video on this product, and the black is for the winter as black absorbs heat so it keeps the windows warmer and less frosty.

@@cowboybuddhaful yeah I know but that’s just a gimmick. The black facing out is what I do for stealth camping. I live a mile from the sun here in Boynton bch Florida and it doesn’t make a difference especially if your windows are tinted. Now if you don’t have any window tinting on your vehicle and you put the black side out I’m sure they would suck a little heat through to help with defrosting. Maybe. Again the black side is reserved for being more stealthy and doesn’t really help if you don’t have tinted windows you would be able to see them. I demonstrate how they’re unnoticeable behind my tinted windows. 😎 Either way… Get them! 😂

@@SarasotaTimyeah when you think about it, if you have tinted windows then that blocks a good bit already then it passes through the glass and the material inside the sunshades. Makes sense to not make that much of a difference.

The 4Runner has tinted windows already. The dark side of the window shade just makes them invisible behind my tinted windows. I’ve heard the myth about absorbing heat by facing them black side out and it’s not true. Living here on the surface of the sun and can attest to this. You see it’s a foil material that doesn’t absorb heat only blocks it’s. These aren’t cheap $200 but well worth it. Get yourself some. In my opinion, the black side is to create a surreptitious look for car camping in neighborhoods, or areas you want to just blend in, so it just looks like dark tinted windows. 😎
