I'm Mexican resently reverted to Islam. I love wearing thobes and shalwar kameez. But I mostly wear it when I go to Majid because I feel covered and modest and I wear them when my Afghanistan friend invites me to parties or Eid. The clothing is soooooo comfortable I love it. I don't wear it much outside in the norm because I feel like here in the USA people look at me weird specially with the stigma and missconseption that we are terrorists. Makes me sad.

Islamic clothes means everything within the bounderies of the islamic rules so no pants or clothes of the west it always needs to protect the awra of the eye just any long clothing it can be from Pakistan Saudi Egypte or Morocco

Yes and yes. You can not wear clothing that is unique to Kuffār or a symbol of kufr. For an easy example the white collar worn by priests

What is name of nasheed in the beginning?

I have a question, and it is not meant to be insulting. I like thobes and I like the Afghanistan, Pakistan long shirts as well. If I wear a thobe and I am a westerner does this mean that I am one of you? Is this in any way insulting, especially if I am in a Gulf State such as in Saudi Arabia? I do not want to be insulting. Yes the lungi or the Indonesian sorong and the izzar the yemenis wear is a Sunnah of the companions of the prophet Muhammad ﷺ which has been incorporated by the southeast asian Muslims practice and culture.

Sometimes you may not find a specific hadith on something but that doesnt mean it's not sunnah. You need to read and learn about the muslim civilizational code. You will find that the lungi/izzar was worn during the prophet's time.

I think it’s better for the the respected sheikh to reply, as we take our Deen from Quran, Hadith and the lives off Sahaba RA. The dress code is important like the Sheikh has said, but we need to see something from the 3 things mentioned above.

Dear Sheikh, I'd like to know the boundaries of the ruling to not "imitate" the disbelievers. Does it also constitute imitating them in culture or just in religious practices? Shouldn't we ignore the cultural aspect since the Qur'an explicitly says that we were made into different tribes and cultures so that we learn to coexist? In simple words, is it forbidden for a Muslim to follow the culture of a foreign nation that is not majority Muslim?

@@AbdulKhader-786 Let's say, rapping. According to IslamQA.com, rapping is forbidden because it is an imitation of disbelievers. This confused me because rapping is just another style singing that was invented by Non-Muslims, but has nothing to do with religion.

@@dk2.026 thats a tough one. Rapping was invented by a group of people that Islam looks down on, i.e. immoral musicians that are disbelievers. But i think a distinction can be made between the rapping style itself and the culture associated with rap which is definitely un Islamic, such as the clothing, the music, the profanity, and the themes of most rap

@@AbdulKhader-786 I guess rapping is just a thing associated with music, which is a very contested topic in Islam. People use the narration of "imitating disbelievers" incorrectly on this matter, since it doesn't fit here. This issue is more on the list of general prohibitions rather than the former. In any case, rapping in and itself has nothing wrong in it as long as it's not vulgar.

As the Shaykh mentioned, Imam Abu Hanifa (May Allah have mercy on him) stipulates that in a land of harm (Dar-Al Harb) it is permissible for a Muslim to lie or steal to survive. The reason the shaykh brought it forth was to establish that we as Muslims should not be selective or biased in looking at the fatawas of great ulemmah of the past. Many people simply look at a portion of the ruling of Ibn Taymiyyah regarding clothing, and not the entirety. You have to look at the context, and the entirety of the evidences brought forth.

I dont see Saudi Arabia helping our vrothers and sisters in Yemen, Syria, China, Burma etc. but I see them making peace treatments with israel and giving the money of the ummah to the west. Saudi Arabia in its entirety is actually damaging the ummah, they (the leaders) are traitors. They imprison pious sholars, because they speak against their unislamic ruling. How should a convert from a non-muslim country dress? I dont have an Islamic cultural dress to draw from, I still dress in jeans and t-shirts and would feel unauthentic wearing a thobe. Honestly I want to dress in a way that I would be happy to meet Rasulullah in. I would feel ashamed in my t-shirt and jeans but I dont even know what would be okay to wear. I would feel so inappropriate wearing someone elses cultural dress.

This is not just a cultural dress, it’s the clothing of the Muslims. Don’t feel embarrassed, if you go to a mosque wearing a Thawb. No one minds, and even if someone does. After wearing it for about a week it’ll become normal.

So, again, it’s not just a cultural dress but a dress that strikes fear into the hearts of the disbelievers. It’s well known to be Muslim Clothing. So we should dress like the Muslims do, even wearing the Shal is what Muslims do. So we dress like the Muslims as Allāh said: “And true clothing of the God-Fearing that is best.” وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْ..

This crazy double standard is seen where the brother want(rightly so) the sisters to dress in hijab, niqab, abaya, khimar, shelwar etc. but when it comes to men, its a no, no, and goes against the masses

I heard this aswell from a brother who mentioned that shaykh albani Rahim hamullah considered the salwar kamees of the Muslims sub continent as closest to what the sahaba would wear (going by the descriptions in the ahadith) and Allah knows best. I hope there's someone else who actually heard this first hand or has the tape on this subject.

Shalwar Kameez personally is a lot more comfortable than thobe in terms of leg space and ease, you can wear it no problem at all

It is a sunnah adah not sunnah ibadah.

Why not wear what the people wear in that. Culture as long. As it fits the Islamic profile. A Pakistani dressed like an Arab in England for example doesn't make sense. Its easier to give dawah too.
