We Were There, April 7, 2015

World Trade Center Responder Don S., and Family Member Caitlin L. share their personal stories of September 11th in their 9/11 Tribute Museum presentation of We Were There on stage at the National September 11th Memorial Museum.
Don Sadowy left the North Tower just moments before it collapsed, stepping over the bodies of jumpers to report back to his managers at Merrill Lynch. He speaks of the horrors he witnessed as people fleeing were getting hit with debris, as well as his story of survival and rescue after taking cover in the back of a firetruck as the buildings collapsed. Don felt that he was at the lowest point of his life a few weeks later when he returned to the site. He sustained injuries that made him unable to dress himself or drive a car afterward, but felt compelled to go back. It was at St. Paul's Chapel near Ground Zero when a brief interaction with a minister marked a turning point in his life.
Caitlin was 12 years old and was at school on the morning of 9/11. Her father worked in the NYPD Emergency Services unit, and she knew that he would have rushed to the WTC after hearing about the attacks. During lunch time, she comforted a classmate of hers whose father worked for Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower, telling the girl that people like Caitlin's father were going to save him. Caitlin's story touches on her denial about what truly happened to her father, the profound moment when she truly understood the finality of death, and the ways that she has healed by giving back to the community in her father's honor.

Wow; such a powerful testimony. What a horrific image of that man being sliced in half with a glass from the tower… This is one brave man.

I wondered if that was him. His voice was certainly recognizable, but I wasn’t entirely sure. Thank you for verifying this.

The guy who did that in 1993 is a HORRIBLE person, and I'm still angry that they let hin TALK. After what he did, he should NOT have been allowed to talk on the national news. He deserves to be totally forgotten IMO.

Now I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but am curious, which god is one who survives a tragedy suppose to, "pray" to? The god that created it or the one who didn't Stop it? Near the core of religious experience is something seemingly remarkably resistant to Rational inquiry... Don even said it, "a bunch of Different clergy from Different Faith's." The Truth doesn't have Different versions... Though we'd probably agree the in America we all have the right to believe in whatever one wishes, and I'd even fight for that right, but I also have a right to Question those beliefs and point out the irrational reasoning from my POV... "God" is not an explanation., It is a placeholder for those lacking the courage, or the intellectual honesty to say "I Don't Know." I think that it is time we admitted that Faith is nothing more than a cop out, the license religious people give one another to keep believing when Reasons fail. I mean, if Faith is one's reason for believing something, one could use Faith to justify Anything they wanted to believe, and sadly, many don't see the problem with that. In religion, Faith is a virtue. In science, Faith is a vice... I mean do you believe in say, unicorns or leprechauns? Yes? please demonstrate..? No? ask yourself WHY? Apply that Same Logic to the god/religion in which you find yourself and it should become crystal clear why I Don't believe in your god... If you can't demonstrate it, you certainly Don't know it and say that you do... Do Not be fearful of challenging your own beliefs, it can lead to great enlightenment. Think for a moment, if you were born in a different region of the world and your guardians taught you Different beliefs than you hold now, would you still hold the same beliefs as you do today? Most likely Not, so wouldn't that mean your beliefs are largely based on your region and upbringing? Sometimes in the "school of life" it is not only important to continue learning, but to Unlearn that which does not agree with you anymore. I mean, if there was some kind of Proof (which I'm not claiming to have) that in fact you have been mistaken and you god in fact Doesn't exist, wouldn't that be something that you would want to know? Life is full of illusion pretending to be True. And consider this, the amount of people that believe in something has Absolutely NO bearing on the TRUTH whatsoever, the TRUTH does Not change weather it is, or isn't believed by a majority of the people. Always keep an Open Mind, which means that you are capable and are willing to question your beliefs and adjust them accordingly to New Evidence/Reason that is provided. Wisdom is given to No man/woman until he or she has an Open mind and asks for it...Try to understand that our beliefs actually DO matter, because they inform our actions, and if one holds irrational beliefs, it can and will result in irrational behavior...

VanillaGorilla 84 Well said. It’s quite ironic that “religion” is what drove the airplanes into the towers, yet a different flavor of “religion” is cited for being the reason people survived. People will go all pretzel-minded to justify their idiosyncrasies.

"The Evil One prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking for someone to devour". God didn't create sin. He created humanity with a free will to choose righteousness over evil, to live in humble reverence or to live entirely for oneself. The terrorists obviously served the wrong god. But as Jesus said, do not fear those who can harm your body, but seek after The Lord, who can save your soul.

All I have to do is look at the Grand Canyon, a fall forest, the cycles of the sun and moon, the tides, the way every animal on Earth reproduces and cares for its own kind. The complexities and accuracies are just too intricate. Should I believe that all of that happened simply by chance, by some big bang? Never.

Sorry the story wasn't entertaining enough for you... It's not a bloody fictional book reading. These are personal accounts of what happened from the people it happened to. Get a grip! 🤦🏻‍♀️
