    Don't apologise for drinking Brazilian soda in Australia - one of the joys of Australia is how multicultural it is. Being able to have an English breakfast, a Brazilian lunch and a Thai or Italian dinner is a very Australian thing!

    @@jupupable4101 Noosa is insanely overrun and busy now. Absolutely every bit of gorgeous nature is ruined by the crowds. Yes, it's a phenomenal place to swim and surf...if you can even get a carpark in Noosa!! Very expensive now too, the people that either live or holiday in Noosa are very well-off. I live in Brisbane and will maybe do a day trip to surf in Tea Tree Bay if I feel brave enough to face the crowds. It feels busier than Byron Bay at times.

    Many of the mountains and towns around Australia are indigenous words! Some are a bit hard to pronounce but it’s pretty cool to go to a historical mountain where people so long ago would’ve watched the same sunset. You can get to learn their prounciations just by thinking of sounds for some of them, because often the spellings come from explorers who wrote it as they thought rather than a standardised thing (and we haven't fixed it yet). There are a lot of different languages, but yes, it can be better to hear them said before reading the transliteration Eg Mouheeneeneener = Muwinina

    Really enjoying your travels! Just a quick word re the harsher sun in Australia: The elliptical orbit of the Earth and our axial tilt combine to place the Southern Hemisphere closer to the sun during its summer months than the Northern Hemisphere. Coupled with our clearer atmospheric conditions, this means that Australians are exposed to up to 15% more UV than Europeans. There is of course a thinner ozone layer above Antarctica but it has less to do with that & more to do with our position in the Southern Hemisphere.✌🏼

  • @stephengentle2815

    @stephengentle2815

    It's true - although people in the Northern Hemisphere are going to have to become more sun-smart, since pollution controls are starting to make some effect. International agreements to limit sulphur content in shipping fuel over the last few years being a big one - the sulphur dioxide pollution that sulphur created did shield some UV, and removing it has probably already brought the Northern Hemisphere a couple of percentage points closer (in the amount UV that gets to the ground) to us down South.

Once you hit the real Outback you will revel in its solitude and grandeur - the redness of the dirt, the blueness of the sky a night sky with more stars than you could ever imagine. Thanks for visiting! It's a great place, I've lived here for years, Brisbane is basically in the sweet spot in Australia for weather, laid-back lifestyle, enough amenities and cultural events, relatively affordable housing, while still having decent job opportunities. The main thing that I think that needs a lot of improvement is better public transport, especially rail (ideally some underground metro rail Ines), but there is a lot of advocacy pushing public and active transport, and at least some projects are in construction at the moment.

    If you are going to Darwin, I have a tip for you. Every Thursday evening there is a sunset market at Mindil beach which is a must see. The food stalls are terrific. The tip is regarding the famous Darwin sunsets. Tourists having heard about the famous Darwin sunsets will watch the sun set into the sea and as soon as they see it set they turn around and leave as they have seen the sunset. NO! The actual show starts AFTER the sun has set. For the next 45 minutes to an hour you will see a beautiful sky with constantly changing colours that is even more spectacular if there have been recent bushfires as the smoke particles refract the sunlight. We lived in Darwin for 30 years and our Mindil market routine used to be to take a picnic table and camping chairs with a nice bottle of wine, buy food from the food trucks and enjoy the changing colours of the sky after sunset over dinner.

Loved the pineapples in the back seat, someone below suggested a postcard, good idea, there are several theme parks there maybe you could strap them (pineapples) into a roller coaster? Put faces (yours?) on the pineapples. Yeah Oz is great for being able to get away from human life and surround yourself with natures life, it really does chill you out. @@OnePackWanderers the Australian immigration program is opening up big time after the covid shutdown. There is admittedly a lot of opposition (house prices and rents being forced up etc etc) but Australia's economy thrives on having migrant inflows. Migrating to Australia is not as hard as one might think - especially as a "skilled migrant" if you have skills/qualifications that are in short supply. Unlike the US immigration system which is effectively a lottery, Australia actually searches out people with skills that our labour market needs.

    @@OnePackWanderersmaybe check out some of the horrific things that happened during Australian lockdowns before you think about moving here. It could happen again any time. Australia doesn't have a constitution to protect its citizens like the USA. We weren't allowed to leave the country, the states closed against each other, families separated and much more. NSW and South Australia were the best especially SA!

    Nature is the best cure for anxiety and I feel the same when I go to cities, whenever we go somewhere that is really built up we make sure to go to a wildlife park, mountain hike or even just a beach to unwind and let nature unclutter the brain. I think that we are lucky that most Australian cities are only half an hour away from a good nature walk. I'm absolutely loving watching you guys love our beautiful country.

    I totally understand Tias anxiety in crowds. My beautiful misses knows that sometimes when we are shopping i just want to get out of there. Its a claustrophobic feeling. Its not rational but we aren't robots either.We are all wired different. But good on her for being so honest and decent about it. Most Aussies i feel are pretty understanding if they know you're struggling. I love their attitude and demeanor towards Australia and am so glad they are here enjoying themselves.would love to see them stay here. 😊

    High UV levels, low cloud cover and air pollution, and a high proportion of people of European descent drives the skin cancer problem here. My generation - seniors - never wore hats or sunscreen as kids and teens, so we figure high in the statistics. Most skin cancers are basal cell or squamous cell - I've had both - but deadly melanoma levels are high and most of us have annual skin cancer checks. I expect Australia's skin cancer levels will drop thanks to skin cancer awareness campaigns that began in the 1970s, schools requiring kids to wear sun hats outdoors, OH&S demanding outdoor workers to adopt sun protection measures and a changing ethnic mix in the country.

    Loving watching the trip guys. I saw a lot of people commenting on missing things along the NSW coast. Obviously if you only have a certain amount of time or money (or both) you can’t see everything. It seems like you are doing capital city’s and secondary touristy spots, which is good for people to see, and leaves you so much to see for your next trip. Just saying, you did miss one of the main “big things” with the Big Pineapple at Nambour

    Glad you are having a good time, and getting to relax in nature. Don't worry Tia, everyone has issues they have to deal with. Cities can be quite stressful. :-) Not sure where you are now, or if you are heading to Cairns or going inland before then. if you do go to Cairns, the esplanade water area is nice and free. But the waterfalls around the atherton tablelands are great to get away from the crowds. (weekdays) you can swim at some of the waterfalls. I think you mentioned somewhere that you are not doing Far North QLD (FNQ) this trip.. so maybe something for another time.

    03:07: yes one of the common styles we have is Italianate architecture, but don't worry about any of the technical stuff, they're just names and we have different vibes for them based on our own local spins. Brissy is good for its vernacular styles like queenslanders, though they were derived from South East Asian adaptations. Also global-phenomenon Bluey is set here 😉 And yes, places that don't put cars above humans are just, well, better for people. Though when you do want to escape, having good urban design that is compact (dense so it isn't the most sprawly in the world as our cities are) with easy access to green spaces is key, while there will always be those pristine natural spaces in between. Tasmania will be great for nature 🍀
