Hey guys! I'm the bass player on this. Thanks for the kudos! It's nice to get a little nod every now and then and I'm sure the drummer, Yoann (yes, Yoann, not Joann) would love to hear this as well. Tori is amazing and does lots of other covers and is gathering some of her own material. She is also a very warm and sincere person if you hear some of her interviews. And of course Jim Wilkas is a master musician and teacher. I've played on a number of tunes with him and they are always some of the best products. And all the other fabulous musicians in the track.

Excellent!!!! Huge fan of the Carpenters and Tori has the talent to successfully bring us this genre of music!! Beautiful!!! It would be awesome if Richard would work his magic and create music for her to sing. The combination would be loved and adored as we honor Karen and embrace the talent of Tori.

Wow, Ryan & Nathan! Thank you so much for the wonderful review of our project... I'm so fortunate to have come across Tori and her amazing vocal talent. By the way, many people are curious about what "MIDI" is all about (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) - musicians who use electronic gear know. It is a computer language that allows electronic musical instruments to be interconnected, and since I learned about it when it was introduced (1983), I would teach classes at my local music store. My friends dubbed me "The MIDI Doctor". Again, thanks for the great reaction/review! - Jim The link to our song video is at kzread.info/dash/bejne/fG1pzsiDodKfhrw.html

The best reactions to this work are by folks who are actually familiar with Karen Carpenter and this song. To many, including myself, Karen Carpenter's voice is in a league of its own. As far as I'm concerned, it's a voice that has been untouchable during my 60 years. To hear Tori come THIS close to Karen's is absolutely mind-blowing. Without being familiar with Karen's voice and the very unique niche The Carpenters had in the music scene, is to not have a full appreciation of how special this video actually is... in my humble opinion.

I'm a 65 year old lifelong musician. Just so you are aware the Bass and Percusion (Drums) are considered the rythm section. Technically Piano is a percussion instrument. I'm glad you paid omage to the editor because with the number of tracks used to create this it's not a lickety split push of a button. It still takes some skill to end up with such a coherant production.

The reason it sounds spot on is that they used the original as a klick track. It only gets out of sink at the end. Real singing from Tori and Jim. No pitch correction or auto-tune. Good reaction!

Hi Guys! Tori actually covers other artists, though she indeed reveres Karen Carpenter. She's simply a fabulous singer. On her site, she does a cover of an Olivia Newton-John song in which her tone changes to a brighter, lighter sound. And she gets up there in range. She also does covers of various other singers and has some originals. And don't even get me started on her engineering abilities. She put together audio presentations in high school, creates her own overdubbed pieces on a multitrack deck and/or using Pro Tools, a professional sequencer. A lot of reactors miss that. She's not just a singer, but she has the theory chops to listen to, analyze, and create a lot of music on her own by herself. Oh yeah, and she sings too. :)

Hi guys! Wonderful reaction! I’m so happy you enjoyed it. No technical issues just beautiful. Thanks! Jim and Tori are working on more both Carpenters and non-Carpenters classic songs. For Ryan who didn’t know the original and Nathan who grew up with it. This guy in Norway named Eduard saw this video and made a mashup video. He was so blown away by it all. He did the same after this with the Bacharach Medley I requested earlier. His We’ve Only… mashup has passed 115k views! Nuts but it’s for your viewing pleasure. It really shows what Jim and Tori and the crew did. A pure homage video. As it was intended. It was released on Karen’s birthday to honor her. Here’s the mashup. This is spine tinglingly good, but can we also pay tribute to Richard Carpenter's genius as a musical arranger (which has been faithfully recaptured here too). His ability is also a big part of the Carpenter's success.

The bank were trying to get new customers. They had to ditch the commercial when they found that they were attracting young married couples with no money. They didn't think this one through... Richard heard the commercial the same time you did and recognised the singer/songwriter and got in contact with him to get the song.

As a life long Carpenters fan since the early 70's, I have NEVER found anyone to sound exactly like Karen. I also played drums in my H.S marching band because Karen played drums. That being said, Tori is good, but to my ear, doesn't sound like Karen in some ways. I have only found one person who sounds closer and she is an English singer called Harriet. No offense or criticism against Tori's performance...it's really good.

@cptcosmo Hi, my reply was to be "barely" (& still is) but instead of replying that, I spent a few hours analysing and matching only the vocal track(s). I extracted each vocal track, from the original uploads of these two clips using online websites (as stay at exact same speed pitch). I used digital analysis of the mp3 for the BPM, as well as website that lists them. It's half a BPM difference. My digital check gave me 88 BPM, website 87 BPM. Audacity shows Tempo of each as 120. But it's not even 1 BPM difference. As I overlaid both vocal only tracks in Audacity & synced them. On the hard sounding end of words such as "us" in "new to us" and "us" in "two of us" & on Staring & Watching, they sync exactly throughout the song. And a word (if it doesn't have a 'hold note') at the start of a line also sync exact. What Tori is doing isn't holding some trailing notes quite as long as Karen does such as when Karen holds on Smile, Begun, Grow (& some others). Tori finishes those words a tiny fraction earlier. (& I do really mean tiny like 1/4 of a second) Also Tori goes louder a slight fraction before Karen does, in those parts where it does go louder. In the last chorus, the last "us" 's still sync spot on. So Tempo is so very close, it's just Tori's slightly shorter hold on some words (where Karen holds longer) that it makes it sound like Tori is slightly faster. Find this video: We've Only Just Begun - Carpenters VS Tori Holub cover - SO SIMILAR. It uses same videos/tracks as are compared here. Play it but don't watch it. That Vs video is same speed pitch & tempo as each of both the original uploads (as also used here) of each clip, so speed pitch hasn't been used to match them. After listening to it, only, then watch it. Anyway, it's just as well it's not precisely same tempo phrasing, as even more would be saying it's AI or Autotune or both, when it isn't (the irregular curves of wavelines show in software I have show it isn't, as well as overlaying the vocals); & some, who do say it's good, are saying (criticizing?) that it doesn't sound exactly like Karen. Tori isn't doing an impersonation!

@@CityBeatEntertainme5 Correct regarding the SO SIMILAR video. When I was listening to both versions at the same time (two youtube windows playing) I noticed that they hardly changed speed apart from at the very end and then still only slightly, and decided to make the video as I was in awe myself. The other video I made, the Bacharach-medley, had more speed differences, and I had to use some tools to adjust tempo in order to make them match. Tori's version is slightly faster there.
