My studio is pretty small, so we sometimes get costumes like these. Lots are really good and i love most of them, but our hip hop costume this year features a black halter neck leo with a half skirt and a ruffled sleeve on one side, lace arms with black sequins and flowers and on top of it all fishnet tights. 👹

I think that both the Reverie and the Kung Fu Piano costume needed the tutu to be lower on the hips. The proportions on both were off, and that bothered me more than the weird naming conventions.

You're right about victorian evening dresses and wide necklines though. That coppelia was just terribly named, but also I can't help but think of Nina Pinzarrone's original costume when I think of Spartacus, not the ballet one.

It's crazy how some of the costumes, you can tell the designer was really trying. And then some of them... XD I'm still laughing at the kung fu piano one. Reminds me of Kung Fu Panda the movie. It took Eden thinking of the piano for me to go "Oh. yeah. That's why." Though if that's what they were going for, why not have a white costume with alternating black and white layers for the skirt and maybe some pointed black lace to mimic the piano keys? Precision patterning!

Historical costume enthusiast here, and not to worry, Eden: we're not coming after you for the mid-Victorian comment because you were pretty correct about that! I am now REALLY interested in seeing Spiegel im Spiegel performed... I love minimalist costumes and sets, where there's nothing extra, just the bare basics of movement to music. On the subject of Firebird, I did drop a - forgive the lack of seeming modesty - rather interesting note somewhere else on this channel about what someone had said about the Russian name for the ballet, Жар-птица, but I'm not sure it got seen. I speak Russian and I'd be happy to share it again. :)

Since originally both families has specifics colours it would have been fun to add that blue/red for the couple. I don't know, it would make it more authentic for me :D And as for the dress for The Blue Danube kinda reminds me of Cinderella just maybe the skirt a bit longer ! :D I'm totally speaking with 0 knowledge on ballets costumes, but I love to just get to know your analysis

Hehe. I am currently learning to play Blue Danube, and can play a very little bit of Saber Dance. The latter I picked up fron another pianist at work, and played it in a couple classes, where it got really positive reactions. Blue Danube isn't ready to play in public or at work yet but it will by the time work starts up again. And it goes through my head lately because summer is so warm and bright, making me want to learn more music.

I took tap dance & ballet as a child as a lot of girls did back in the 60s (I don’t know if they still do but it sounds like it from your conversation). My mom sewed my costumes for year’s end recitals. I remember the tap dance one was a Chartreuse green mini skirt with purple fringe(Winchester Cathedral), and the ballet costume was a lilac bodice with layers of tulle skirts. Nothing fancy, but I felt pretty in them. 😊

Hello Jordan and Eden, I love your vlog! You are doing something very important! Removing the threshold of “high culture”, which it of course is. However you making ballet accessible to many more people. The TwoSet Violin guys are doing the same. Both your vlogs are opening the amazing, wonderful, rich world of classical music to a young generation. I subscribe to both of yours because it is such fun and a joy to take part in your discoveries. I am 76 and classical music, opera and ballet are integral parts of my well-being. I spent many years volunteering as an orchestra mom, introducing children to the richness and fun of playing an instrument. If one finds the right words their minds open up and it never gets old witnessing their AHA moments! One of my catch phrases to lower their anxiety around string instruments was this: if you want to listen to music you have CDs and pod casts etc. But back in the day people played instruments at home to hear music. And they began choosing their instruments.

Very fun video!!! I'd love however to see you react (and love/roast) some actual ballet costumes for famous theatres. I feel like it would be even easier to relate, since they're seen on stage in the context! For example, I hate Royal's ballet's Jewels costume in sleeping beauty. Even worse, PLEASE PLEASE check out the Don Quixote from Teatro dell'opera di Roma (set and costumes by Vladimir Radunsky): the entire production is horrifying, top tier goes to Kitri's friends and the dryads. I'll leave you the link of the trailer: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m51kq7Wefc-nXag.htmlsi=55XkdwR_aavSI7kd On the other side, I consider stunning Bolshoi's sleeping beauty or Royal's Nutcracker. Honourable mention for incredible sets and costumes goes to Jürgen Rose, John Cranko's designer for the Stuttgart Ballet. He designed stuff like Onegin amd the lady of the camellias.

Dear Ballet Reigndeers 🩰🌧️🦌 Once again you impress me with your incredible maturity. The way you describe the various ballets and the music that is supposed to be inspiring these costumes is so thoughtful and insightful which is remarkable at your young age. Speaking of age ... Did you really want to know whether we know the Crayola song? I'm glad you asked! As I grew up in the pre-fax machine era ("razzmatazz" color didn't exist back then), the Crayola song I remember is super catchy and thankfully available on KZread! The video title is "Crayola Fat or Thin Commercial 1988-89." Yes, "fat or thin" are words that are frequently repeated with great enthusiasm - you see, one type of Crayola marker draws the lines "thin" and a bigger marker colors in the drawn shapes! The highlight (ha!) is at 24-27 seconds when children's voices chant the most important part! But it has to be seen in the context of the whole commercial. And yes, I remembered the words before I found the video on KZread! I also remember the words of the Zoodles commercial ("I just had a hippopotamus for lunch!") and Smarties ("Do you eat the red ones last?") not to mention the "I want a Big Mac" song from McDonald's. I would be happy to sing those for you, in my frankly terrible and tone-deaf voice, anytime you like. 😁 Well, I am woefully off-topic here, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Usually, I would expect to be entertained, but would not expect to learn much from a "roast" video - but this channel is so educational that there are now a number of ballets and music that I am going to look up! I'm especially intrigued by the Armenian ballet as I recently bought an album of Armenian ballet music. I was first captivated by it when I saw (and heard) a girl dance a variation at a ballet competition (on KZread). I wish I could give you more than one "like"! Thank you for the video! Your editing is superb! I would rate it as "the cherry on top/10." 🍒🔝 Have a wonderful week! 🙏🤩🍀🦢🎶🩰🦋🌜💫

PS. What really surprised me was the outstanding facial expressions on the girls modeling the dresses! There was quite a range of emotions - and not one of them looked like she was overdoing it or underdoing it. Possibly the girls are all incredibly artistically gifted, and all of the photographers gave the best possible instructions! Thanks again for the video!! 🙏❤👍

One thing I like about this channel is that it introduces me to ballets I've never hear of 🎀🦢 Great video, ladies.

I think the area that makes the costumes bad are the names. After rewatching the previous one, I noticed this reoccurring theme. I think for Kung Fu Piano, they were talking about the Piano Guys piece. Still, I don't think it works. Great video, btw. 🩰🙂
