Back when he was in OKC with George, if he had 30+ pts and under 5 3s attempted, Thunder won 71.4% of their games. When he shot 5 3s or more and 30+ pts, Thunder only won 45.8% of their games. The problem isnt the triple doubles. It is his volume of 3s per game.

this video didn't prove that at all. theres a difference between causation and correlation. just because russ gets triple doubles does not mean that he caused the win, more so it most likely means that his team winning correlates with russ having triple double (when the team plays good he can get more assists, more points etc)

I think about it like this, if a basic 10 pt, 10 ast double double means you're responsible for 30 points minimum (10 from you, 20 off the 10 assists, assuming no 3's).. then thats the same as a 30 point game. So add the fact Russ usually gets 20+ points and a good 13+ rebounds...he's responsible for a Lot. Not even trying to be biased

I remember before the season started Cash kept saying they don't need Russ to get triple doubles, and that they're empty stats. I just didn't understand that statement because, as a Russ fan, almost every time he gets a triple double he wins. Teams are better when he controls the pace. One of the reasons why the Lakers aren't doing so well is because the team plays at Lebron's or AD's pace, when they honestly should be playing at Russ'. Russ plays too fast for them, that's one of the reasons why he's turning over the ball alot. He passes the ball to spots where he thinks his teammates can get to, but in reality the rest of the team can't keep up because they're not used to someone throwing the ball to spots that they aren't used to. Russ and LeBron are both great playmakers but the way they playmake are almost completely opposite. It's hard for players to get used to two different playbooks, especially two completely different ones. I'm not making an excuse for Russ' subpar season, his fg percentage has been utterly horrifying and he still hasn't learned to play in other systems. I'm just saying the Lakers need to play to his strengths to win more regular season games, and fully get what they wanted when they traded for him. Use Russ' playbook 70% of the time and then use LeBron's playbook the other 30%. Then when the post season starts they go 90% LeBron and 10% Russ. LeBron is a post season superstar and Russ is a regular season superstar. It's been that way for years so why not play that way?

Even though the triple double is watered down in today's league... Contributing to points, assists, and rebounds is still the object of the game. So you can't just wave it off as nothing

I think what you do in a game to get the triple double is more of an excitement than the actual title of the accomplishment itself. we see triple doubles everyday now in stat sheets. But its what you did in the game from start to finish, the plays you made that got you that accomplishment is what's more exciting. some people quietly get triple doubles just from layups and free throws with 10 boards and 10 assist, you get surprise at the end of the game to see they got a TD. but others like Luka, Russ, Nikola..etc make amazing plays throughout the game that by the end of it you'd be surprise if they didn't have a TD.

That, and it's much harder to play defense when players are shooting it from wherever. Rudy Gobert is an elite rim protector, but he's a liability in the playoffs because he can't guard the perimeter. I also think there's a lot more scoring talent on the floor than a couple decades ago.

Cash, everyone knows there is more competition today as opposed to years prior. When you do all-time comparisons, you often make the argument relative to the era each player played in. Otherwise the top 10 all time would just be Lebron, Durant, Curry, Kawhi, etc. since they all played in the era with the most comp.

Bro idk what people want when Westbrook was brought to a team with no shooters for him to playmake for and 2 other stars that need to get to the paint to be effective. This is not Russ fault it’s Lebrons fault, Vogels fault, and their managements fault.
