We Tried Turkish Burnt Ice Cream | Fethiye & Kas

Today can be summed up with "Turkey has so much variety". Our day begins camping on top on a mountain in Butterfly Valley overlooking the beach below.
After an incredible sunrise we make our way towards Fethiye to spend the night but not before visiting one of the most unique fish markets we have ever been to.
In the morning we make our way to Kas to try the famous Burnt Ice Cream that this area is known for.

David H The level of stupidity in your comment 😶 Before 1923 the lands were ruled by the Ottoman empire, which took control around 1100. The Selcuks ruled the same area before the Ottomans, and they are also Turkish. Ottoman people lived there and not Greek. By Ottoman I mean Turks. The Greek population lived alongside the Turks peacfully, as the Ottoman Empire allowed them to live there. Besides, the a lot of nationalities controlled those lands before the Turks, such as the Mongols. The modern Greek culture is more like the Turkish/Ottoman culture - just look at Baklava, Turkish Coffee, Kebab and Yoghurt. I mean even their surenames are a bit Turkish with the “oglou” and the end which means oglu (son) in Turkish.

Years Turkish and the Turks have also leave the Islands in 1923 ... why nobody say it that its Turkish ... the Blue Eyes what they sale in Greece its come from Cappadocia but they say its Greek Eye :)))) .. to Turkish Coffe all the World say Turkish Coffe but they say its Greeek coffe .. to baklava they say its Greek but hometown from Baklava is Gaziantep a City in Southeast of Turkey where the Pistachios are growing for making Baklava ... and many more ;) i dont have a problem with they and they are everytime welcome but think to say what is wrong I can do it ;)

I actually preferred Turkey to Greece, I felt like Turkey is what I wanted Greece to be like but Greece felt really touristy and commercial to me. Also, Turkey was so inexpensive and had the best food, and the food was so cheap too. In Greece I ended up eating a lot of toasties and greek salads in pubs because food was so expensive and I was trying to backpack on a shoestring. I felt like Turkey was similar budget wise to Thailand, if you weren't eating street food and stayed in nicer hostels.

Every place in the mediterranean region looks almost the same, the vegetation - because of the mediterranean climate or the houses to be resistant against the weather. So it's not a copy of any other country. It's just the development and adaption of people to a certain region. Those purple pink flowers (begonvilleas) do not only grow in Greece and stop growing at the border of Turkey they are inhabited in most mediterranean country, be it Greece, Morocco, Italy or Turkey etc. Sure, countries influence each other and Greece and Turkey share a long history together, so of course there is cultural influence, but the appearance of a region doesn't change just because of cultural influence. Ps. Greeks and Turks are no enemies, let's not be fooled by politics and media please, we are all brothers and sisters :(

No disrespect to you guys but most places you cite as "greek influenced" have been under Turkish rule over half a Millenia It's not like some dude saw a greek village and decided to copy it. Also, note that Greece was under Turkish rule until 1821 (for over 4 centuries). This doesn't make Greece "Turkish influenced" nor makes Turkish cities Greek influenced.. You are defining the regional fabric of these cities based on an artificial border line. In truth we are all "Mediterranean" hence what you define as "greek influenced" is called Mediterranean. Most coastal towns of Italy looks the same too. Edit: Until recently Australia was a British colony. Would it make sense if I visit a town in England and say "hmm this is very Australian influenced I can't believe it."

No offense but neither Ottomans nor Seljuks or in general Turks haven't found even a single city in the region. Anatolia has been the center of several civilizations since prehistoric times, therefore all the cities were already there before Turkish flowed to the region in masses. Inevitably they adopted the existing culture and life style which changes from city to city and it is still so. You can see different influences such as Arab, Greek, Armenian, Kurdish etc in different cities. But collapse of the empire lead to a kind of cultural poverty and made Arab influence to be dominating.

As a turk I find this comment idiotic. There were Greek settlements at the area back when turks were busy invading Central Asia, man. Especially the aegan region of the country have similarities as in culture, architecture, food and general attitude of people with Greeks. Greece is an ancient civilization, no need to get offended or anything by when someone says they influenced us. Note that we were herders who were not even interested in urban civilizations before we settled in Asia Minor, and you think Turkish urban culture popped up out of the blue? No. They adopted whatever they thought best and redesigned it for themselves. Which was the nomads way of approaching any sort of conquered land or culture.

Greece used to be part of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey had a large Greek / Christian population until the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 following which there was a compulsory exchange of populations between the two countries. Turkish Muslims living in Greece and Greek Christians living in Turkey were compulsorily forced to relocate, not a happy time for either side. This was as a result of the upheaval following the First World War. Both populations had lived together for centuries before this fairly peacefully. This is a simplified account of a complicated story.

Not only Greek, but also Turkish Christians were relocated as well. They said we are Turks and do no speak Greek, yet, they were still sent. Stupid nationalism and western fed independence fantasy leading to massive destruction. It is always better to stay strong in a union than to be a weak tiny nation. Look at the Balkans after the Ottoman collapse. The British were too happy drawing future borders and deciding how to divide the resources. But, yes, go Serbia, go Greece, and go Arab nationalism.

TheMounthood You are completely right my friend, those Brits who were funding countless nationalist rebellions in Europe and Ottoman territories in the name of 'justice' while also killing millions of Hindus for rebelling against their 'royal' king in exactly same time period!! They were defending the freedom of many nations while their 'royal' king was somehow the king of many nations including Hindus and rebelling against him was considered as a treason! After Indian Rebellion of 1857 was over Brits executed hundreds of thousands Hindus for treason!! The western culture is built on so many lies and hypocrisies but all it takes another book, movie or TV show then mindless crowds are clapping even their biggest crimes...

Turkey is extremely cheap right now. If you really want to go but couldn’t make up your budget, this is your chance. The currency won’t stay like this forever. Flights are also cheaper in autumn and winter. You won’t be having a summer vacation but you can at least see all the important places without sweating and without the huge tourist groups of summer. Istanbul is beautiful in winter as well and so is cappadocia. Like I said, if you really want to travel, this is the chance.

You must visit Gaziantep. Very beautiful city with historical ambience. There are a lot of different type of food. Different than other cities. And It is one of the cities where baklava is best made. Because pistachio is growing there. Here in Turkey, we call it "Antep fıstığı" (Antep's nut).

Guys, first of all thanks for this thrilling series that you made in Turkey and especially on several places. I feel quite happy since you had perfect times and memories in my lovely country. Apart from some misleading info, for me its quite normal since this is your first time on those places without any historical info or so on which also happens to us as well most of the time, I really loved especially the way of you are showing to the other people who havent been in Turkey, yet. And I am hundred percent sure that you gonna influence the other people for visiting out country ASAP:) Another point for us that there is a stereotype coming from the geopolitical location of the country but once you are in fact is just hitting your face that Turkey is a country regardless of any region or continent which makes it unique in many areas. I am again glad that I found this channel which makes you feel that you are also there so hereby I d like to invite everyone to visit Turkey and find whatever you can imagine in each and every region in country. (Though I am living in Budapest, it is impossible to not miss your country:)) Wish you the best of luck for your future journeys, keep going to enjoy each and every second! (:
