Just for the sake of demonstration. Typically cutting fluid is used, but this was a dry run as well.

I definitely agree,b'cuz that's just too much material wasted,I wouldn't like it either.And if,I were the customer,I'd be wondering who is gonna pay for that material, if it comes-up short on the # count

My favorite part of this video is how he didn’t get a 10 foot pipe to tighten the screw. If I had a dollar for every time I had to get a stripped screw out…

We have two of these (left and right hand) with 10mm inserts. We use them for deep grooving in stainless forgings.

The material of the insert is made of cemented carbide, which is the second hardest material after diamond!
Nice work! I had the privilege of working for GE developing 40 Watt Plasma Rifles back in the 80’s. We reached out to Mitsubishi Electric to develop some of the early PCBN machining tools. This also solved the ionic transfer problems and short tool life using HPP carbides in the beginning. The budget was not a factor back then so these inventions could happen.

The breaker on the cutting edge works well, Chips are handled very smoothly! They are also more effective and last longer if coolant is used.

It was only 1045 (c45 is the grade written on it) so not really amazing at all. Show me the same thing in inconel or P550 I work with and I'd be impressed. The way it broke a chip in soft material is above average though, and also the high feed rate is for that reason exactly, the right chip thickness so it breaks not strings.

Heavily moded one of these to do a 6.5 inch deep face groove. Went from a 2hour mill run to a 12 min lathe run. It's a tough tool.
I showed this video to my mini lathe and it started crying.

Too intense is when my lathe starts chattering under a heavy cut because its not rigid enough… The most intense time happened so fast it could not be stopped. Chatter on a grooving tool made the tool dig in then rip out of the tool holder and shoot across the room. I should note this machine is not modern and has no guards.
