We Toured 4 Apartments in Russian Market at Phnom Penh! With Prices! Cost of Living Cambodia

For this video, Saimai, William, and I are looking for an apartment in the Russian Market district of Phnom Penh, which is the capitol of Cambodia. Russian Market, also known as Toul Tom Poung, shortened to TTP, is a neighborhood with a lot of expats, cafes, and cute restaurants.
We will tour four serviced apartments and show you what they look like, along with their prices. All apartments come with Internet, cleaning, and free motorcycle parking. We hope you enjoy!

    I don't know much about the international school market. I can tell you that the two really good schools here in Cambodia are ISPP and Northbridge. That's about all I know, though.

    Beautiful family and nice looking apartments. It looks like the russian market area is getting pricey. I wonder how much for a lower level apartment, like something on the 1st or 2nd floor. FIre is a real risk in Cambodia and those pent house type apartments carry that heightened fire risk.

    Hi Eric, very interesting video thank you. I'm moving to PP in five weeks and have a couple of questions: You mentioned an agent. Would you recommend using an agent to find a place? I noticed a couple of these didn't have any bedding, is this common? Is it expected that you should have your own duvet and pillows for the bed? And what is the deposit expectation? Do you have to pay any months rent in advance? I gotta say I think the 3rd one was very charming but perhaps too small for a family and the living room was disappointing. If you continue to apartment hunt I'd love to see some more videos like this.

  • @SecondLifeTravels1

    @SecondLifeTravels1

    All good questions. I am pretty familiar with Phnom Penh now and don't need an agent. If you are new to PP, you should get an agent. I happen to have one that is very good that I can recommend to you. PP is not like Bangkok, in which the apartments are typically FULLY furnished. In Cambodia, you will need to provide pillows, sheets, and blankets. In the kitchen, you will need to provide pots, pans, silverware, etc. etc. Bathrooms will need towels, etc. You can spend a fair bit of money on that stuff. If you have money, go to Aeon Mall and Global House. If you don't have lots of money, buy from local markets, such as Orussey Market. It's pretty normal to pay a 1-month deposit and also pay the rent in advance for one month, as is typical most places around the world. Some places may want 2-month deposits, but Cambodian landlords prefer Western tenants and therefore will accept one month deposit. Also, the listed prices are usually a little higher than they'll actually take, so don't be afraid to ask down $50-100 per month on the rental price. The worst they can say is "no, pay the full price." Maybe I should do a video on this.

    So Eric and Saimai, where did you finally find your apt? Did you find one at the Russian Mkt. area? I'd be interested to know as I am also thinking to visit Phnom Penh for a month holiday. For a solo traveller, I am thinking whether I should rent an apt., stay in hostel or guesthouse. Don't really care for a swimming pool or gym. My priorities are strong WiFi, an elevator, and A.C. Also, it should be walking distance to a market.

    We did find an apartment in the Russian Market, but we signed a one year lease. You're going to have a hard time finding an apartment with just a one-month lease. You'll want a hostel/guesthouse/hotel.
