We the Texans: Art and Democracy

Texas is enriched by the artists who call the state home - creators who use their skills to connect Texans with diverse perspectives and to say something meaningful about their communities, our society and more.
On Wednesday, April 10, The Texas Tribune hosted “We the Texans: Art and Democracy” in El Paso, as part of our yearlong initiative examining the state of democracy in Texas. At the El Paso Museum of Art, we talk with artists who work in various mediums about why they are inspired to create and how they see their role in driving dialogue, activism and change.
Speakers include:
Camila Abbud, artist featured in El Paso Museum of Art’s 2024 Border Biennial / Bienal Fronteriza 2024
Lupe Mendez, Texas poet laureate 2022-2023
Sign up for the “We the Texans” newsletter at trib.it/HNA to get twice-monthly updates on our yearlong initiative dedicated to listening to Texans, boosting civic engagement and exploring how democracy is experienced in Texas. Delivered every other Wednesday.
