Just a tip for you, buy your metal from a fabrication yard, it's sooo much cheaper than buying pre-cut from a hardware store. They will also cut what you need to length most places sell metal by the pound or the foot. Keep it up, hope to see more videos from you..

New FAN here Brother!! This is EXACTLY what I need to do for my two utility trailers, but wondered if my MIG could handle that thick of metal? Now I know, but are you able to tell me what you set your MIG welder at to do this? Totally new to this, but retired and can't afford to hire anyone to do it for me! THANKS in advance!! I will be RHINO coating entire trailer and underside of plywood I'll be putting back on, to help with weather proofing!

On my Hobart 125 I set it to the highest voltage and wire speed seemed to be best at 30 out of 100. I used .30 size wire. I learned to take my time with slower wire speed for better penetration. Also be careful when grinding as to much weakens the weld joint. I by no means am a welder but it can be done. Trailer has been hauling top soil and mulch. No issues

@stevemustaikis6602 Жыл бұрын
I would like to add one more thing. Grinding the welds flat really is not needed even if they look crappy.t will possibly weaken the weld joint. If you do grind the weld off and it does look questionable , lay down another bead . In your case , the road is the only thing that will see it Continue on.

Looks like your doing a good job so far. Obviously, if you factor in your time this trailer wasn’t worth saving, but as a demonstration it is being put to good use. 1 question, why cut off 4 inches of new material so you could weld it to a rusty 4 inch piece of metal, could have cut off the whole end of the C channel and welded the new piece to the bottom of the platform?
