    I don’t recall comparing myself to my toys, but I can say those toys and the movies I watched shaped what I think of as the ideal male form. And it’s definitely brought me distress having never achieved that form. It’s not something I could have ever vocalized to my parents because it was more subconscious. I don’t know if it would have made a difference if they sat me down to talk about unrealistic body expectations, but it couldn’t have hurt. So I guess I’m saying parents should have the discussion with their kids regardless. It won’t be necessary for every kid but it might help some.

    Yes teach kids the best you can, but I don't understand the rest of your comment considering this realization. It is not the kids fault or anything we could give them any benefit about. It is a psychological effect, the way our brain works. Your anecdotal experience doesn't change that nor does the fact that there are more influences on kids than just what they see or what their parents teach them. Don't get me wrong I agree on the teach as best part. I just don't get why you would add the first part of your comment. To maximize good influence on kids (teaching them) shouldn't rule out minimizing bad influence (establishing a realistic body image in media).

  • @layna-heyhey

    @layna-heyhey

    @@fritzbox6764 ...where did I say that there was a fault to be pointed to? Give kids the benefit that they are more perceptive and receptive than perhaps some of us think. Parents are the first and most constant (at least should be) influence on them, and they choose what tv show they sit their kids in front of to watch, it is parents/guardians who buy the toys. There is no fault. I literally said teach them as best as one can, and that would involve "minimizing bad influence"

  • @fritzbox6764

    @fritzbox6764

    Ай бұрын

    @@layna-heyhey ...where did I say that you said that? What you said now is basically to explain how parents may have influence on their kids. That and how and how much influence they have doesn't change the fact that there are many more influences they are subjected to. No matter how much benefit you want to give the kids they are still human beings and therefore still subject to neurological and psychological effects. Adults undergoe the same processes as kids when they watch movies, walk by an ad, overhear a conversation, see how and why others receive praise etc. I hope I made it more clear now. Edit: And I already said what I meant with "minimizing bad influence" in this context here and that is "establishing a realistic body image in media". That should show you what I mean in general. Parents don't have influence on this in their role as a parent towards their children. They only have an influence on this in their role as citizens of a democratic state, as parents in a democratic state and so on.

    I'm natural. I've been working out for about 2 years a little more(i stopped counting). I've gained 7-8kg but I'd say 10-20% of it is just fat and the rest is muscle. One thing I got wrong is that I thought lifting more heavy weight for less reps would make me gain muscle...(no). Actually... my strength and muscle increased when I started from 10 reps and pushed up to 15 reps. I did that x3 sets and when I feel i can do 18-20 I increase the weight. This way my strength would increase or I gain some muscle to compensate for it. I don't look huge. In fact.. I look 'smaller' because I also lost a lot of fat but I still have fat in areas where I don't like it but "IT IS WHAT IT IS". I'm lifting and improving myself. I'm in my third year in the gym. I increased my walking endurance a lot more and my strength over the years were 'good' but not like the one in social media telling you 'you should be able to lift 100kg in a bout a year or two'. Well... yes if I actually was too dedicated but I had other stuff doing also. I kept pushing and pushing and I can lift pretty much good amount. I'm not forcing myself too much to the point of getting exhausted and barely be able to do anything or have fatigue the next workout comes. I just do 1 more rep every day if I could and if I can't I take a step back. So far... it worked pretty well BUT ITS DAMN SLOW.

And to generaly be a good person. because that is their purpose. their ripped bodies where just a bonus, something cool to look at. and i mean if you just worked out a lot and eat healthy you could get bit like that. so i dont think they should change the characters. parents should educate their children to look at what they do instead of how they look. that what they do is whats important

I’d say the biggest issue is that many parents don’t give their kids the love, attention and confidence they need to stay away from the PED’s and be confident with their natural results and learn that it takes time to build a good physique you’re proud of.

    Well said brother. I am a fellow engineer and bodybuilder, and I couldn't agree more. I'd argue it is important for young minds to have someone to look up to; someone that inspires them and can see themself becoming as great or greater than their role model. I'm 23 now and I have no doubt that watching dragon ball Z, playing video games with strong male characters, etc. has shaped the way that I carry myself and my identity. After getting serious at the gym I went from lean and 165lbs to 205 and pure muscle. I say that not to brag, but to shine a light on the importance of *inspiration* and how many young kids are not being inspired or looking up to anyone like they used to. This is very sad and will undoubtedly have a large negative effect on society as a generation of youth grew up with no long-term goal, no inspiration to give them purpose and direction. Kids need that.

    I usually agree with your opinions, and I see your points on unrealistic goals, but I think having a goal and wanting to look like Chris Hemsworth etc. is no problem and only helps the society in keeping standards.

    5:01 Wish I knew what part of my growing up let me avoid this 'copy what we see' thing. I liked what I saw, often. but never felt any need to BE them, or be like them. I was me. that was enough. Not enough to do well in school, apparently, but enough. :) and much of my entertainment on tv back then came from america. subtitled. letting me hear what they actually said and read what some doofus in the company thought it meant. (on the whole, I have figured the only way to properly subtitle shows is to hire people who LOVE THE SHOW, and know both lanugages involved. 'fandubs' have far and away been the most accurate I've experienced.

    You are right about the image of men being 6 pack and big all the time, but my problem lies in first not go the female route, which is body positivity to fat acceptance and just new a recent report came that even more of the population is getting overweight and obese, not just that but the younger population under 18 as the parents not looking out and giving their kids junk food so our life expectancy is now lowered, this is to say gym culture for guys if you know not to go non natty look is so good, this new trend to me at least is very good for all the guys and our thinking of I was to look like characters I look upto and train for it have a motivation even if impossible to reach doesn't stop us from the goal of a healthy lifestyle is great and women on the other hand pointing out things like women looking too sexy in games and media will not stop and there should be more fat girls does not make sense, nobody wants to see, and if you can change something about it and not do it, then it is your fault and on the same page as a short guy, he can't change his height and looked down as human by women cause he is not 6 foot even tho he is taller than her

It is kinda good cuz it encourages you to be good-looking and healthy; it also sucks cuz it can get you to pursue an unachievable career.

    I'm sorry I had to pause the video, stop completely, at 6:22. You mentioned a statistic for 14-18 year olds regarding how often they searched up content related to steroids in the past 3 years. Your number was "up to 420 million times." What is that compared to the amount of searches of content related to propane and propane accessories by people 14-18 in the last 3 years? Searches about buns, butter, and biscuits? My point is, you threw in what seems to be a high number, without a control group. That feels dishonest, how do we know that 420 million times over the past is relatively high? What if for something as simple as riding a bicycle, the number was in the billions, simply from how many tik tok users there are, and how many times a day they use the app? Not saying bicycle hashtags get searched that often, but where is your control group? Are you deliberately cherry picking one part of their research to support your narrative? I would hope for better from the channel. Not to insult you, but I believe you'd do better to include a control group in order to be completely honest with your viewers.

    The problem isn't what teenagers need to do in order to satisfy themselves in relation to looking muscular and attractive. The prospect of Civil war in the United States exists in conjunction with the coming presidential election, and the horrors being inflicted upon Palestinians in Gaza deserve our attention. Why? The same heavy handed military response will be used to put down an uprising here in North America, and those same soldiers dropping bombs upon Gaza will commit war crimes closer to home. We could worry about how we look, and what it takes to have the body of Captain America, or we could ask ourselves if we care enough to prevent another population from suffering the impact of genocidal warfare occurring with the blessing of our tax dollars. War is coming, and our gym memberships will mean less than our basic survival skills. Prepare yourselves for what is coming, and seek out sources of information that will ultimately provide you with that capacity. None of you will have the luxury of living in a stable society, because the middle class of North America no longer exists. The very same corporations polluting our natural environment consider all of us to be their property. We are nothing but slaves who are led to believe otherwise. Get prepared. I wish all of you the very best.

So yeah how about you shut up and realize that muscular people actually benefit people who look that way and there are plenty of other people for you to look at and identify with
