Funnily enough, Neil also made The Ultimate Showdown.

even if Mouth Dreams doesn't have the big hits of Mouth Moods (or the nostalgia of Mouth Silence), it has this vibe that I was enamoured with on first listen, making it my fave along Silence. I do also see why people don't really like it as much tho

Personally Dreams is my fav of the series, and I think a lot of people don't like it because it is going for something very different from the other albums, there's less jokes, and less poppy bangers (though the ones that are there are great), but it goes for an overall mood of forboding and anxiety, nightmarish and quite dark. I think this was made as a theraputic response to the begining of the pandemic, quarantine, and the overall fuckedness of the 2010s into now the 2020s. There's tons of references to death, trauma, disaster, all wrapped in twisted views of nostalgia as if coping with depression. Tbf, I could be projecting all of this deeper meaning onto the album, but It felt revelatory to me in 2020, and very emotionally resonant while still being very funny. Side note, I also think this album is Niel's most Technically impressive of the mashups in terms of how well it's produced from a sound designer's perspective. The pitch work, the mixing feels natural, the way the music is interwoven not just in individual songs, but as they transition from one to another. So yeah, it's very different, but I adore it.

This is my favorite one of the albums, so goooood, I love the "dreamy" (no pun intended) concept and it's the most atmospheric of the albums if that makes sense Some songs do go on for a little too long tho 10000 Spoons is my favorite I think tho I don't consider the last 2 songs to be part of the album, they are kinda extras, to be fair

9:45 I didn't even know Rick James went to prison. That he was specifically in Folsom Prison has blown my mind.
