Budokan is very important for BABYMETAL, not just because the importance of the venue itself in Japanese history, but also because they played 2 shows here (Red Night and Black Night) in early 2014 which were the shows to launch their first album, as well as to “depart” for their first World Tour. Who the hell~ walks into BUDOKAN at age 14(YUI and MOA) (SU-METAL was 16) and changes history? In March 2014, Babymetal performed in front of 20,000 people at the legendary Budokan venue - setting a record for being the youngest female fronted band to ever sell out Nippon Budokan on two consecutive nights. If you've played the LEGENDARY BUDOKAN, you have made it. If you've played a sold-out TOKYO DOME 55,000 SEAT STADIUM two nights in a row ( SEPT 19-20 2016 ) - - you are immortal!

I'm flying to Tokyo in less than three weeks to see them at Makuhari Messe at the end of the month. Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。BABYMETAL is the best phenomenon in music I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. When I saw their live performance video for the first time, I got emotional like you did. When I witnessed their show at a venue for the first time, I was moved to tears. Whenever react to BM videos, you should select live ones. BM has been existing to encourage people by showing their full-power performance on stage either in arenas or at open-air festival. [FYI] We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

@@Xyrez Thank you for your interest in Japanese culture. Hiragana only or mixture of Kanji / Hiragana, both are OK but Hiragana only is normal way these days. So your textbooks are correct. Some aged Japanese people like me prefer to write 有難う (or 有り難う) because we learnt that way many years ago in school. In addition, I personally prefer the combination of these two kanjis [有 = exist, happen, occur etc.] and [難 = hard, difficult, rarely achievable etc.] If someone is kind enough to you and do some favor for you, it must be something that can happen rarely or trouble him/her to do it. So 有難う signifies and implies that I noticed that you bothered to do it just for me and I am grateful to you about such unusual thing. I love this expression.

That's Babymetal live guys. They are perfection on stage. They rehearse themselves silly and can repeat this same performance night after night without ever having a bad night. This stage is actually one of their lowest budget stages. They can go super over the top with their arena shows. This one was scaled back because it was during COVID and they never knew if the next show was going to take place or not (they did 10 nights at Budokan).

Great reaction! I love it when BABYMETAL convince doubters that they are a real force to be reckoned with. Isn't it amazing and surprising (especially for a metalhead) how much the dancing adds to the entertainment value? I don't know any other band with such a complete package of entertainment. Another performance you have to see is "Road of Resistance" live in Japan. I would say it's one of the best Metal performances ever. Unfortunately, it tends to get blocked, so you'd have to take some measures. And I'm not aware of any version with subtitles. For both a Metal and a Hip Hop head, BxMxC is probably interesting as well.

Su is a soprano who has a C4 to G5# range (G#6 once, in a duet with Rob Halford). She is a stage general who has been commanding crowds of 60,000+ since she was 16. She is 25 now and her voice has matured and is as smooth as silk and stronger than steel. The new album is released in March and it's going to be excellent.

Great reaction, thanks! Yep this is live. Pro-shot footage produced for BD/DVD purpose from their last 10 concerts at the Budokan. So, it's just perfect. And yes, the visuals from those concerts are really appealing and I'm a sucker for a good laser show as well. The comment you read is totally true. They hire the best technicians money can pay just to match the girls professionalism and dedication. They are sometimes considered a "live act" to the point they consider their albums as business cards being the live performances their core business. By the way, Kyle's face during Su's final "hashire" is priceless.

Nice reaction. That performance was from the 10 years of Babymetal at the Budokan shows. They did 10 shows not in a row because of scheduling and the start of covid. All those years the earned the reputation of being great live. They even won awards for it. Plain to see why too. From the start they give their all on stage. They old adage the show must go on and break a leg is not lost on Babymetal. Down and bleeding they will go on. Some years before these shows Babymetal became the youngest act to ever perform there. The shows didn't go as well. 2 shows back-to-back. The first night Yui fell off the stage. She came back later and finished the show. Moa rolled an ankle. With tears in her eyes at times she finished the show. At another show Su slipped fell right on her butt. She got up and laughed it off then finished the show. They've took their lumps and earned their strips. These days folks are waiting for their first live performance since these 10 years of Babymetal shows back in 2021. Lucky for us it's not going to be long now. Babymetal is due to perform at the end of this month. Babymetals shows in Japan are some of the best shows you'll ever see. Also lucky for us Babymetals stripped down shows for music festivals are amazing too. Imagine when they first started you could have seen them for free in the mall. All part of the living legend that is Babymetal. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

With the Babymetal team flat-out the best at Arena shows. Unfortunately Babymetal has only performed 2 Arena shows outside of Japan - Wembley, London and The Form, LA. Its not just a band playing and singing, its an event, a stage show with 3 girls kicking your asses and punching you in the face with every song. And that's before we talk about the band behind them. Its also perfectly fine to get emotional with BabyMetal..I don't know if its Su's voice, the song, the music, but a huge amount of people get emotional on completely different songs for completely different reasons, and that's GREAT. With BABYMETAL it's basically the same old story every time. Brushing it off as a gimmick, novelty act, something weird Japan did like them ads or weird game shows... And then at some point for some reason you take another look, and you can't believe what you've missed. There's indeed a reason why they're so big. They don't mess around and the talent is literally everywhere. I would highly recommend to check out the BABYMETAL Reactor Resource channel for future reactions as they don't (normally) get blocked, have subtitles and are BluRay quality as they're taken from BluRay live shows. This band is one of the best live band you'll ever see and I know how that sounds for a metalhead, but I am one too and look at me xD. Enjoy the ride. Kyle, you will love this because it has the empowering messages of metal but 99% of the time it is wrapped inside a layer of positivity that is not so easy to come by in metal. Their messages are mostly about seeing the positive in the negative we see around us and overcoming our demons to aspire for hope and unity through difficult times.

Considering Su-metal has been literally singing and performing her entire teenage years until adulthood, it wouldn’t come as a surprise as to why she’s so good live. But the thing about her is that even in her younger years, she already sounded amazing. When their producer found her, he was so amazed at her voice that it spoke to him.

Now that you've seen how a Japanese crowd reacts, you should checkout Karate from Download 2016 to see how a western metal crowd reacts. Babymetal is first and foremost a live performance band, they even say that their CD's are just a calling card to their live shows, which is why a lot of their music videos are just pro shot from their concerts. Try Rondo of Nightmare with Kami Band intro, Road of Resistance live in Tokyo, Ijime Dame Zitai from Tokyo Dome, Death Legend 1997, In The Name Of from Legend S XX to get a taste of how crazy their productions are. The last two are the birthday concerts for Sumetal, the leaf singer.🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction again. Good choice of performance - but virtually any live BABYMETAL video is a great choice (with the possible exception of Glastonbury - they put on a great show but the BBC's audio and camerawork was atrociously bad). As you saw 'Karate' is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art and reflects their culture - as with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards. They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are dancers, not martial artists, so those people will tell you it isn't entirely authentic).

This was awesome, I wish I knew what they were saying, I'm gonna have to find the lyrics to all these non english bands and read them while watching these videos because I miss out on so much and I can't do subtitles because I'd be pausing every few seconds to read and that's just not something I like doing, great reaction guys, look forward to the next one. Also it's not like I'm being lazy, I'm legally blind and it takes a lot out of me to read things while I'm trying to listen to them at the same time but I will most definitely still listen to these videos and continue to enjoy them. CHEERS!!! 🤘🤘🤘

If they come to the United States I am going to as many shows as I can! You should react to BabyMetals song Ijime, dame, zettai live at Sonisphere 2014. BabyMetal is always best live. Studio/MVs are not the intended final product. They are more like advertising for the live shows. The live show is the real presentation goal. And their production is out of this world. The girls and the band are immaculate. People in the comments can direct you to the best live versions of each song. Like Headbanger Legend 1997 and Road of Resistance Live in Japan. I would argue that there is no bad live performance. (Though, Glastonbury was a shit show. The band performed beautifully, but the sound was so fucked. Not their fault.) But there are fandom-agreed Best Versions or at least Must See versions so that your first experience with a song is the optimal one. Also, you're not going to find a lot of lyric options. But the best thing about BabyMetal is it transcends the language barrier. That's part of why the live shows are so spectacular, so you don't have to understand the words to be entertained, to be moved. As Su says: Don't think; feel. BabyMetal songs are best experienced first and then analyzed later. Also, yeah, Metal can often be all about The Angst, but BabyMetal is all about positivity, and I find that a welcome change. Sometimes (in earlier songs especially) there's an intentional frivolity. But a lot of the songs have positive and/or uplifting messages, and a lot of them are about perseverance. Most of the earlier songs were written *for* girls the same age as Su and Yui and Moa, not only to introduce younger people, particularly girls, to Metal, but also so the girls themselves would feel comfortable performing their own songs. So that gives us songs like Doki Doki Morning and Uki Uki Midnight that are about getting ready for school/staying up late and eating snacks with friends, but also songs like Karate, which is about not letting anything, even yourself, keep you down, and improving yourself so you can move forward with confidence. Megitsune is strongly feminist. Even songs like Yava! that can seem inconsequential at first glance can have a deeper meaning, like being true to yourself and not letting anyone pressure you into a decision/listening to your gut and sticking to your principles. There are BabyMetal songs that have The Angst. The Trilogy of Light is pretty specifically about The Angst of Loss, but also about working through it and learning to make peace with it and move on. Personally, I love some of the lighter songs. My catharsis comes from the heavy music, but sometimes metal lyrics drag me too far down. I want to be compelled to move in a way that physically works out my personal angst (via a lively headbang, for example), but I'm Old and Tired, and I want lyrics that lift me up, or at least don't bring me too much further down. There's PLENTY of emotion to be found in BabyMetal songs, even if they're not particularly 'Metal' feelings. There's also LOTS of heavy. But more importantly, there's lots of joy. And I, for one, am 1000% here for that last one. There's not enough in the world. 🤘🦊🤘 Great reaction. Looking forward to more BabyMetal from y'all.

If you want to watch more of their live shows: "PA PA YA!!" really shows off the production side, "Shanti Shanti Shanti" is one hell of a vocal and genre flex from Su-Metal, "Headbanger!!" but in my opinion the "Moabanger" version because Su passes the mic off to Moa-Metal and you don't often get to hear Moa lead, but for pure utter guitar shredding and crowd control watch "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan".

Great reaction! I'll just make two quick points. First, live is always better! Their live shows, especially in Japan, are on a whole different level from other acts, and the professionally recorded and processed audio from these shows are better than the studio tracks in my opinion, without exception. Second, if you enjoyed Karate this much (don't get me wrong, it's a fine song), you will really lose it on songs like Syncopation, Ijime Dame Zettai, Headbanger, Akatsuki, and many more. I know it can be a bit of a challenge dodging Amuse and copyright takedowns, but keep reacting to Babymetal and keep doing live shows! Feel free to reach out if you need help find any resources.

The Budokan is a scared place for martial arts. It was built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The Beatles was the first musical act to perform there after enormous protests from the martial arts community. It’s a “steep” seating venue. You feel like you’re sitting on a ledge. Every seat is a good seat when the stage is at the center. Looking forward to more BABYMETAL reactions. Thanks!!

I`ve seen them 4 times now including The Forum in LA and every show is INCREDIBLE!!! They are 100% legit...If I had to guess, I would say they are the hardest working band in metal simply because of the complexity of their shows. I watched them do a 45 minute set in 109 degree weather, outside, and they didn`t skip a beat. And really, you don`t need the lyrics to have a good time. Just watching them play and dance is all the Japanese language you really need. Knowing the words is just simply a bonus with them. What really made me laugh was when they were changing over to their setup, they played My Woman From Tokyo and Godzilla over the P.A. 😂😂🔥🔥

Yea, Babynetal is one if those bands you need to experience live to fully appreciate. Whatever reservations people might have had I can safely say will be put to rest during a live BM show. I also recommend Rondo of Nightmare Mischiefs of Metal Gods at Budokan Live Intro version. This is an epic live performance of Su-Metal when she was only 16. To think this wasn't even their earliest performance either as that was at SummerSonic. Where Su-Metal was I believe 12 at at the time as wholly s***!! Just imagine what Devine Attack-Shingeki will sound like live when they perform it I suspect at Tokyo International Exhibition Hall this Jan 28 & 29th. They later will join up with Sabaton on his European tour in April. Bandmetal was my gateway band into a full on Renaissance now. Band-Maid, Nemophila, LiveBites, Fate Gear, & Hanabie to name a few in their wake. Hababie just released a new single "Pardon Me, I have to go now. " Any hope of an exit from this Foxhole is all but gone now lol. 🤘🦊💕
