I am probably older than your grandmother, but I started following you guys when you did the lake mead updates. I thought the help you generated for the man whose boat was stuck was awesome. And I started following them, Heavy D. I am not into hunting, or fishing much, but I do watch all your videos because they are interesting. And big kudos to your dad for being with his kids and teaching them survival as well as raising wonderful, respectful, young men. He should be very proud.

I'm from the UK and I would have to agree, finding a fossil bed in one of the driest places in America, but also knowing that water has shaped those rocks//mountains would still be a cool find.
FYI, those gas pumps have a "hidden" mute button for those annoying ads, it's one of the 8 white squares (4 each side), just press each one until the pump shuts up.

I'm pretty sure the tube fossils are from "feather worms" (Sabellidae) The fossil isn't the animal itself but the protective casing it builds from calcium around itself. The small rings in the stone are the bases of many feather worm casings. When the worm dies, or in rare cases when it moves to a different location, the calcium casing eventually breaks or wares down to the base where it attaches to the rock. During the Cretaceous period, where you found these fossils was a "shallow", inland sea that divided North America into two separate land masses. It's believed now by some that a catastrophic draining of this inland sea is what gouged out the Grand Canyon rather than slow erosion from the Colorado River. In any case, the fossils are evidence that the area was once covered by a body of salt water.
@Shart-santha

Thanks for the deep dive, that was awesome you taught me something I didn’t know!😊🖤 Not only are those fossils proof that the area was underwater but so are the Trona Pinnacles in Southern California. The desert area in Trona National Park is very similar to Nevada and Arizona’s desert(s). It’s so cool to think about how different our earth looked millions of years ago 😊🖤.
I love the fact you all have the presence of mind to look around and find stuff to make every video a win!

I love, love the shells you found. That's far better than the monolith. SIDE NOTE ( I bet you had no idea that our Frenchman mountain is a very rare mountain in the world because it shows the different patterns of lift from the earth changing.) This valley has been a volcano and also a huge inland lake. The earth has cycles that it goes through every 6,000 and 12,000 years. There are shorter and longer cycles in between. This was a lush valley at one time , as evidenced by the woolly mammoth and other fossils found in this area. I had no clue you could drive up as far as you did on Gas Peak. Love that the Eagle was chatting with you. Beautiful video. Thank you.😊
We have that same plant reed type of fossils in Oklahoma a great friend of mine removed one 12” long from a natural tunnel ! It’s now in a museum ! I am not an expert but I was told it’s 450 Million years old !

There is another of those monoliths north of Denver in the foothills north of Ft. Collins. They showed it on our local news. People have hiked to it too. I think it must be art. Remember that crazy artist that covered the Grand Canyon and other crazy artsy stuff way back when?

Cool video. Bummer that you don't have a drone. It can go places where people can't. Cool fossils too. I grew up in Phoenix, and when I was a kid my classmates were always bringing sea shells they'd dug up in their backyards to show and tell. Much of the southwestern US was once an ancient sea bed.

Fabulous adventure!❤😊
Thanks for the video 😊
I've been watching geology videos on KZread and, yep, you were looking at an ancient salt water beach coastline that probably goes on for many miles, not counting what has eroded away. All those mountains towering over you were once also burying that very spot that you were standing, and have since eroded away by rain and wind, re-exposing that beach that probably hadn't seen the light of day for a hundred million years, or so. Nice find! Personally I think the monoliths are used to find and recruit people with over-the-top tracking skills that might be useful in intelligence careers, studying satellite photos and such. Why interview 10,000 candidates when the right guy for the job will come flying in on a hang-glider, all by himself?
Thanks Guys
