We Put THESE in our BACKYARD POND! (Stocking our Bass Pond with Rainbow Trout for 2023 Ice Fishing!)

Спорт

We stocked our backyard bass pond with rainbow trout for ice fishing this winter, so that we could enjoy some catch and cook sessions on the ice, just steps away from our back deck. Now we just have to wait for the 2023 ice fishing season to start. #troutfishing #icefishing #strocking #girlswhofish

Rainbow trout are such cool fish! You should get brook trout for the pond!

We would love to but it's hard to find big enough brookies. We can get 8-10 inches but we don't want our bass to eat them all. So they would have to be big ones.

Brook trout die off even earlier than rainbows. They hate warm water.

Brook trout need really clean and cool water to survive which is why they are usually in mountain lakes and streams.

It is like sowing seeds or planting young fruit and veggie plants in your garden in the spring in order to have a bounty in the autumn. In this case, you are doing the same type of thing with your pond. @@AverieRose

We stocked the pond with minnows so they eat the minnows. We bought some trout bait too which is grain kibble type stuff.

lol yes it is well hidden and the shade from the trees probably helps to keep the water cooler in the summer.

Any way you could stock these where they could reproduce so u don't have to restock and keep spending money? Getting rid of such a junk fish like bass would probably help to not eat young ones.

We love our bass! lol Our pond actually gets too hot in the summer to sustain rainbows. They will die off in July or August so we only get enough for the winter and spring. Trout also won't reproduce on their own in a pond; they need a stream. The bluegill, minnows and bass reproduce though.
