    What is important is Philippines is moving forward. Tricycles now and a good transport later. This is good for the community for their livelihood. Movements of the people is easy and we can immediately go to the place in lower than ever cost. Big transport is not advisable to small or secluded places.

    When I saw this video, it made me feel like I want to go back to Ormoc City soon. The city, market, SM, and other familiar sights seemed like they were just yesterday. Anyway, I felt bad that your car had a problem and hoped it could be fixed soon because having a reliable vehicle makes it easier to move around, especially when buying groceries. You don't need to haul heavy stuff with you then but in some way its good for exercise though. During my visit to Ormoc City, I got upset every time I went to town and saw drivers who didn't respect the pedestrian lane. There were more people trying to cross the street, but vehicles seemed to have more right of way even on pedestrian lanes which aggravated me. Based on my experience during my vacation, there are both honest and dishonest drivers in Ormoc City. One thing I learned was to give them exact fare so they would not shortchange me. If you don’t give them the exact change or if they do give you change, often times it is not correct amount. Please tell Jane Hi for me 😊. Hope everyone are doing great. Cecille Powell 😊

    Agree! Rare to find an honest driver when you’re a foreigner. In Puerto Princesa, we encountered an older driver who had two students in the trike and added myself, my husband and another lady. The students got off, paid and the driver handed them back their money because he was going to be paid by us to our final destination. The students were shocked! I didn’t mind it at all, as it was only 50.00 pesos for us. BUT, on our return back to our hotel … a younger driver charged us double that price. I couldn’t believe it!

    I love my trike rides here, but also appreciate that some areas are not thoroughfares for them. For what it's worth, when I have a good driver with a decent vehicle I will often ask his name/number. Then I can text him before the next trip, agree on a rate and he will meet me.

    So sorry to hear about your car problems. I'm a bit reluctant to go for used cars. Even in the west you have to be careful that they don't sell you a vehicle that has serious faults. In the Philippines many people don't maintain their cars properly. They don't do regular check ups and just add a little oil from time to time. If I ever live in the Philippines, I would rather go for a small new car (like the one you had before) or buy a surplus again (like I used to have in Ormoc). The latter are cheap both in purchase and in maintenance and they have such a simple engine that any mechanic can work on them. Plus the Suzuki Every (which succeeded the Carry that I had) is slightly more comfortable. Of course it doesn't even come close to your Mitsubishu. One has to make choices! I hope your car will be repaired soon. If it's going to cost you an arm and a leg, maybe it's better to cut your losses and buy another one.

    there is always an ignorant old f00l out there. There is a reason why cars in Philippines last for decades. It is because people take care of their ride. Yes, we can assume there is going to be someone just here in the western world were someone doesn't do any maintenance on their vehicles. In poor countries like Philippines car owners especially those who aren't well to do will do the maintenance themselves but with the car they bought it likely belong to someone who is well to do and had it maintained by a dealer or shop.

    I have a little honda wave that I use going to our farm or her father's kubao in the mountain. That becomes our backup if the car puts a leg out of the bed. I would not subject a new car to the roads in my area. I run an old hyundai and it gets nothing but punishment from the roads. Surplus are only as good as the garage that put it together. Buying one can be a lottery.

    If you are purchasing a second hand SUV, bring a decent and trusted mechanic, as he can check the underchassis and the engine condition of the vehicle. You should also asked for the maintenance report when it was last serviced, i.e. the timing belt or chain. Timing belt usually has a span life according to the kms it has run, otherwise if it broke while youre driving other car parts could be affected.

    Bad news about the Montero Sport Adam and Jane. You'll know this of course but buying a second hand car there can be risky. The Suzuki was good but too small for you, i understand. For future vehicle purchases make sure the car you are buying has a timing chain rather than a belt. Lucky it didn't seize the engine??? In 2008 we bought a new Isuzu Sportivo 7 seat, 2.5 turbo Auto diesel, absolutely great vehicle, go anywhere very trustworthy. We sold it privately late 2014 before we came back here to NZ. When we come back 2025 permanently, we will be looking at a Toyota Fortuner or a Isuzu MUX , both diesels. Also possibly a Ford Everest, though that is low down on the interest levels. Hope Janes health is ok? Isabella is a good girl, smart? Your video is exceptionally clear Adam. Mei is spoilt rotten, LoL.Bob and Lina.

    Adam, Jane, while you were shopping at the vegetable stand, I noticed some tuberous root vegetables that we call lerenes (calathea allouia ), they have a texture similar to water chestnuts and are like small potatoes with a chayote like outer skin. My wife loves them. They are not easily found here in Puerto Rico, unfortunately. I see that it is produced in good amounts in the Philippines. One question I have: why doesn't the trike drive all the way to your home, since the road is very good? Good luck on your car repair.

    Hi folks, I have been watching your videos for awhile now I used to live in Ormoc but had to return to Canada I miss it there. Sorry to hear about the car. Timing belts are not good news. From what I understand and I am not a mechanic but theengine is called an interference engine and if the timing belt breaks, it has what they call a catastrophic engine failure and cannot be repaired. I think the piston hit the top of the cylinder head and cause major damage. With a timing chain it just breaks If it was just serviced hopefully they use oem parts since the others are not good quality. I wish you the best and hope things get fixed up and doesn’t cost too much money Take care and God bless

  • @trosenvinge
    @trosenvinge6 ай бұрын

    Yes, certainly it's a bad thing what happened to your cars engine, it all depends how fast you were going at the moment and the engines construction, but it is the worst kind of engine trouble. So if your pistons and valves haven't got to much damage then it should be repairable, but anyway they have to open up the engine and inspect all parts for damage. Hope you will be able to get it repaired. You could also hire a tricycle that you can drive yourself! Otherwise I know how it is, because here where I live we are also in need of our own car as there is a good distance to the highway and trikes do not pas by all the time.

    Water pressure is usually excellent here my friend but no garbage collection from the house. There are disposal cages along the road to place it though. God bless you 😊

    When the timing belt breaks and you are driving the vehicle, the damage is usually catastrophic. I feel bad telling you this because you may need a new engine. You might be better off buying a new car. I recommend most models of Nissan. Other cars may share this feature, but Nissans typically have a timing CHAIN that will outlast the rest of the car. Whatever you buy next, make sure it has a timing chain... not a belt. Good luck guys. We love you. Very sorry this happened.

    Are you able to send Isabella to private schooling on Ormoc?. Must of been a big decision to take her away from the UK education system but I don’t blame you as it’s a far superior quality of life regardless of your wealth 😊

    Hi guys, it’s a commercial building we believe. It’s going to be a call centre. It’s not close to us but you can hear loud music etc from it at times. The houses nearby lost their view and peace. Building rules have been tightened since early 2021 and regulations are strict and severe now. Hopefully they followed everything set out in the code with no comebacks when finished. God bless you guys 😊

    No my friend. We always budgeted for a car as where we live it’s essential. We would never be able to travel around different places without one 😊
