Totally agree brother! About the music I believe every dancer would want an actually diverse playlist that compliments each styles. The judging system would be better if they have two experience judges and the third judge is the vote of the crowd. Bottom line, still grateful to experience this, definitely a challenging space which help me grow regardless and congratulations again for the brother The Crown.

I just watched all/most of your rounds in redbull and you did really well. Song does play a role in how you can express your style and I'd have to say you demonstrated really well what you can do when you were up against Toyin and J-Noy. edit: Your set in Promiscuous girl was bopping too. Looking forward to your next redbull/turf competition. Do you do other competitions?

seen this a lot in the dance scene. When it's left to the crowd the most popular dancer will always win. a batter system is having 5 Judges or more.

You make a valid point. It'd be best for all dance battles to just stick to the traditional 3 judges as usual.

That's why I like the French dance scene so much more, I started out just being a Les Twins fan but that was a gateway into a lot of the French competitions and I feel like I learned so much over the years watching them.

Yeah, it's a competition where the winner is determined by the best crowd pleaser. And sure, having high skill can help pleasing the crowd, but not all skill weighs the same and a lot of high level skill (like different rhythms in the groove) is not something you (generally) just understand. The ones watching/judging would need to learn what to look for. I am not sure what I feel about the event in terms of being a good or bad thing. But in terms of pure techinque it does judge a more limited set of skills than is usually judged with a judge panel of seasoned dancers.

After watching The Crown vs Son Lam, I agree with what was said in the video. It seems that in the dance battle, it was not determined by how well the person danced, but how they were able to get the audience on their side. I felt like Son Lam won the first two rounds, but because of how hyped up the crowd was in Round 3 by The Crown, they all voted for him, maybe the winner should have been determined by judges like SYTYCD or something. Also, if these Red Bull people really want the dancers to dance their style, then they should make better song choices to accommodate their dancing styles.

Forget about the crowd, most american DANCERS are just as tonedeaf, you can have someone on Kefton's level lose to a Fikshun because they are impressed that he did a split. No offense to Fik, he's just an example I expect everyone to know. A better but less known example would be like Oakland turf dancers doing their bone breaks and tuts off beat but getting mad love solely on the moves, separate from their ear and connection with the music. I don't know how we will close the divide but it begins potentially with Red Bull encouraging interstate/countrywide battles because it isn't until a dancer on that higher level pulls up and opens people's eyes up to all the details that they take for granted that things will begin to change. We need that Fik vs Rubix battle lol.

Could’ve used anybody but you chose kefton. I think that you’re just generalizing American dancers to what you see online, the issue is more about America’s obsession with commercialism and wrapping everything up in a pretty bow for everybody to indulge in disregarding how much substance is taking out in the process. They’re a lot of underground dancers that would give European dancers a run for their money Trust, I would definitely say Europe is really good at highlighting actual/underground dancers than America for sure.

I don't think Red Bull is the problem as opposed to the symptom. Red Bull has done wonders for the BBoy community and if they could do even half of that for all styles it would change lives, strengthen and broaden the community which is a higher priority than getting everyone in line. The biggest thing Red Bull can change or improve with the format is playlists/djs. Better songs mean better rounds and less goofy stuff, I mean sometimes the dancers are basically put in the corner by the DJ, I know this one time Beast was given country music to dance to at one of these events.

I understand sticking to one style but My outlook on dance really isn’t the style or if u wanna mix it it’s if u mix it RIGHTT and remix moves the righttt maybe come up with moves in a better pattern or sequence to better parts of the music that’s where it fits I think. I mix styles too but I’m not limited to all-styles I can separate them if I want… I just feel like I can be more creative and express the abstractness in my brain more when I dance and use multiple of the technique from my other styles to tell the story instead of one. I just think it’s important to be versatile and not stick to one because of the fact that dancers are wanted/needed in different avenues and demonstrating different styles could get u to stand out and be noticed more but like I said I fell it has to be a certain level to do all style

The fact that this ant even only redbull either buh multiple events out here I bin to that don’t represent skill, even the way you interpret music goes over these ppl heads if you not beat killing. The music choice for that first round was crazy 🤣 ant no way, even the dj’s ant valid. But a lot of it is like commercial run etc and the hype, the dance there is for the audience or things that you can only digest on a certain level, rather than the real skillful level. But they gon do wha Dey gotta do fuq it. I rather participate in shi where Niggas know skill in this dance shi 💯 rather den the crowd judge or people who Jus ant that far in the dance shi.

To be fair... The stuff DJ's play at many dance battles are normally songs that no one listens to. Outside of practicing, most dancers (in the NC scene at least) don't listen to that kind of music. They listen to mainstream/indie stuff. Not the underground stuff played in battles. So it's cool to get to battle to music you actually listen to.

Red Bull is a hit or miss. I like what they do in the dance community but they need better DJs for better music. I don't like this whole concept of trying to put on a "challenging" song for the sake of having a dancer challenged by the music. Put music that fits their style and let these dancers do their thing. Their challenge should be their opponent not the choice of music.
