We need to talk about Modern Gaming...

Anyway, just wanted to vent. Keep supporting titles just like Helldivers and Deep Rock Galactic, maybe developers will get the point.

Spot on mate. Modern gaming is really collapsing themselves and we’re doing it for them. Miss the old times..
We live in the Golden age of pure entertainment, this change is you. There are wonderful games and movies releasing all the time

Damn dude, what a video! I had to double check the sub count on your channel, because you deserve so much more with that kind of quality. Earned yourself a sub mate!

Yeah there’s definitely an element to that
only company i get excited about hearing they're making a game is fromsoft, otherwise i wait until the release and see how it comes out. didn't used to be that way it's sad, maybe it's just cynicism as we age idk
It feels like you ranting exclusively about tripple A productions. And I completely agree. That's why I support games from smaller studios because they give me insane amounts of fun compared to comercially produced brain rot that AAA studios make. I never preorder games, but I will make an exception for KCD2 if they allow the option to prepurchase, even though I gain nothing from it, just because how transparent and passionate the devs are. Personally I don't miss the old games, I miss the innovation that old games brought to the industry. Good video.

Absolutely. I probably didn’t give enough credit to smaller studios like Larian, arrowhead and Edward McMillen.
Good vid, pretty spot on. I'd like to add that the "fault" of the industry shifting negatively carries with it a lot of nuance. Initially, I had believed that people continuing to buy unfinished games and preorders were 100% at fault, and that the people deserve garbage because they are continuing to buy it. However, I now realize that isn't entirely fair. In the overall span of video game history, mega-corporations have only truly drove the video-game markets recently, and thus utilize the same principles of consumerism that everyone already falls prey to. They have a metric ton of data to figure out exactly how to prey on people's psychological weaknesses to continue to increase profits. This includes nostalgia baiting, addictive reward pacing (ex: lootboxes), and social peer pressure forming through mass advertising (video games are a social bonder so if they can get one friend into it, all their friends will feel more inclined to play with them). While I would love to blame the "casual gamers" (majority of consumers) for ruining the industry, and feel superior for turning to indie games, to do such would be a failure to acknowledge that we are being culturally uprooted. This unfortunately not a problem of just video games, but a symptom of our economic system and what it incentivizes people to do.

Bro, you should’ve written my script
There are modern games that are incredible but they just feel too far between eachother. I think Movies and Games have the same trajectory not that theyre dead but that the average isnt good anymore, the average is the mass bullshit that gets pumped out but i mean in the last half decade or so we got games like still get RDR2s, Ghost of Tsushimas, Elden Ring, and movies like Parasite, Dune, Once Upon a time in Hollywood, Judas and the Black Messiah, the animated spiderman movies, The Boy and the Heron,Everything Everywhere All At Once These are off the top of my head. I think we just have mad garbage shoved in our face because both of these industries have balooned beyond imagination, the art forms are still very much alive and have masterpieces coming out each year.

Good games are still out there and more come out every few months. There's just a LOT more of the bad around, and less friends to go through them with
Funny because I felt gaming went on the decline in 2008 because everything was dumbed down, lacked great animation of a lot of 2D games had, DLC, and had too many cinematic set pieces that ruined the gameplay pacing. I can't even tell if gaming overall is worse because I only play indie and fighters now, but I've noticed a lot more communities dedicated to negative feedback loops and political style movements.

Agreed. No wonder there’s just remakes nowadays
One thing i just feel like i should mention is its not devs who dont understand what youre talking about in the description. Its the publishers 🍻 great vid, its nice to see more people speak up on how it was. Kids these days dont get it. Edit: holy shit your intro hits hard as someone who's also 24 and has an older brother who would also kick my ass in games. The battle pass on my life line is so true fuck those things and "live service" titles (literally a buzzword at this point) and holy shit thank you. Someone else who doesn't think cyberpunk 2077 is a "redeemed" game that earned it's redemption. They literally just made the game playable and brought it up to (just barely) what it was advertised as across its respective platforms. It's not a fucking redemption for doing the bare minimum after damn near what 7/8 years of dev time then 3 to fix the game after launch so basically 10+ years... After they rode on the tagline "coming when it's ready" yea people who think cyberpunk is a good game & redeemed are fucking idiots. No man's sky is a game that earned its redemption and continues to go above & beyond its initial hiccups. Much love for the fleek drop 🫡

So whats going with game is going everywhere actually the ppl with power hates what made they special, i miss old league even more now with vanguard, i thought about do an old league-like game but tbh too much work, maybe my skills wont match the requirement, yet someone pb will do is a market in need of a 3rd party
Good vid mate and you made some well made points and I don't necessarily disagree with the general sentiment but there's some things I deffo disagree with. 1. The good old days: This is a running mentality in everything, everyone talks about old classics or how it was back in the day because they have simply forgotten the unremarkable. No on remembers terrible boring movies from back in the day because they were just that, boring. Same with games, everyone talks about how good it was back in the day but they conveniently miss out the sheer volume of shovelware that was released for PS2 and Xbox. Don't get me wrong there's some classics from back then and I think devs had to do more with less which really let their creativity shine in areas but it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. 2. Oh how we've fallen: You were excited back then because you were a kid with no real world issues and kids find anything more exciting. I'm 28 now and I still get excited for games don't get me wrong but it's not blind excitment like when you were 12 years old and were super hyped just from watching an ad on tv. Alternatively I think I can appreciate games more now if they are exceptional because I realise the ammount of work that has gone into them. I still think gaming is a very good value for money hobby IF you are sensible with your money and even go to lengths to track your hours per £ and stand by your principles. I agree that generic open world with online needs to stop tho it's horrendously redundant at this point but you have to remember games are targeted at the 12-20 y/o demographic and these kids don't have tons of freedom so exploring an in game world no matter how shit is more appealing to them. The video game awards are dogshit anyway, Hogwarts legacy didn't get nominated for GOTY despite being top seller (I haven't played it I just think it's obviously political). 3. Showing some gratitude: I've got nothing to contradict you on, I agree there are lots of good games out there people just have to stop circle jerking about how bad everything is and put effort into finding things they like and supporting their creators. 4: Is it our fault?: Not really, it's like saying it's the average americans fault that their food/water quality is so bad in places because of lower regulations. The average consumer has very little influence over these companies or course correcting. All you can do is support creators you like and avoid those that you don't or use scummy practices. It isn't the consumers fault theres crippling online only DRM in tons of modern games. And it's not the consumers fault Dragons Dogma 2 has micro transactions, because there are whales who will pay without thinking. Everyone should follow these 3 rules tho 1) no preorders 2) no early access 3) try to get games on sale. but good vid tho mate I look forward to Ghost of Tsushima on PC and Lies of P was my favourite game last year.

Pretty much agree with everything you said. I don’t think we should wait till things are on sale though. If a games proven to be good, and it’s worth the money, I’ve got no problem paying full price. Appreciate the feedback and stick around for more!
