Sympathy is a Knife is a masterpiece. I listen to a lot of music - pretty well every style - but this hits HARD in a way that evokes all the feels at once. Even the mixing alone is impressive. I think it will be one of those tracks that will have a legacy.

This album is so unique but still distinctly Charli. I love it so much.

A surprising favourite of mine is “I think about it all the time”. The lo-fi simplicity of the instrumental, the raw and very forward vocals and, obviously, the subject matter. In the album full of bangers, that track truly brings me to tears every time i hear it, something about the way it’s produced made it stand out so much for me. Might even say a top favourite right after “Sympathy..”

I’m ‘92 just as Charli, and listening to this song moves me a lot: even the beat seems to perfectly match the doubtful and hesitant vibe that she wants to express.

It wasnt a cultural reset. The culturual reset was years ago when she released vroom vroom. Then number 1 angel/pop 2. This album just solidified what she's already been doing for years. Over 10 years!

Sympathy is a knife is my favorite song of the album. I think it’s the first song and even first time I hear a woman talk about being jealous of another woman which causes them to outright hate them or as she says it not want to share the space with them. Rumor goes it’s about Lorde which she has openly said she did not like her because she envied her. Charli is so real for being honest about it. She’s one of the very few woman who I have heard discuss this so openly especially in a time where you are basically forced to support every woman, if not, you’re not considered a “girls girl”. We cannot expect every single female artist or celebrity to be friends. Having jealousy or envy over another woman doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you human (obv as long as you’re not actively hurting the other person). You don’t have to vibe with every woman you meet and that’s okay. It’s refreshing to hear this. I feel like we are hurting one another more if we force ideas like being a girls girl because we cannot force ourselves to create a sister hood with every woman just for the sake of it. I’m a new Charli fan but this def got me to become invested in her music. Everything is romantic and I might say something stupid are my favorite.

i think Girl, so confusing is actually about Lorde, or at least the line about Charli and the other person having the "same hair" is a hint torwards that. Sympathy is a knife is more likely to be about Taylor Swift. The part about seeing the girl she dislikes at her boyfriends show is a nod towards the fact that Charli apparently dated her now fiancé George Daniel (the drummer from the 1975) during the same time as Taylor dated Matty Healy. Charli also went on tour with Taylor as an opening act years ago, which also might be a part of her insecurity, comparing herself to arguably THE most listened-to female artist. its just my theory, but i believe it pretty strongly 🤓

Sympathy is a Knife is the catchiest song on the album. It's what Lightning on the last album was supposed to be, but with the shimmering chorus and classiness of a song like Silver Cross.

Good video! Never listened to a Charlie album before, gonna give this one a try. From the video it sounds like it gives an a new perspective on her if you're already a fan of her. Wonder how well it translates for someone who is new to her music. Anyways, thanks for the recommendation. I love how it pays omage to her previous work, definitely one of her best albums

I had only saved a few charli songs on spotify before brat came out (vroom vroom being my favorite one), and I only knew about her thanks to a friend who introduced me to hyperpop a few years ago. He told me about brat coming out soon, and at first I wasn’t that interested. I finally listened brat a few days after it came out and god was I blown away. This is what REAL records should be all about.

The 360 remix with Lean and Robyn is probably my most played track, but I think about it all the time is currently my favourite. It has exactly those types of lyrics, expressing inner thoughts we don't expect to hear and texts to friends, and is also a bit confusing, as turning over this idea can be in your own head. Gives me chills

I used to be a fan of charli back in the sucker era. Then i completely fell off with her. For some reason i decided im gonna listen to her new album when my spotify recommended it to me. Guess is what made me love the album even more. It’s indeed a cultural reset. It’s almost as if brat is the type of music I’ve been craving. Her sound is distinct, lyrics are melodramatic and relatable, and a hint of nostalgia, she’s able to give us this euphoric and amazing piece of art that im forever grateful for. Im going to miss this era.
