We need running water at Everstoke - It's time to put on my plumber hat | Building Everstoke

⚡️ Thanks for supporting the stoke!
Everything at Everstoke is built in layers. Getting electricity was a really solid base layer that allowed us to keep moving forward. Getting the road improved was HUGE to giving us access when the weather got bad. Getting running water is the next foundational piece that will allow for showers, toilets and endless drinking water. Each piece builds on the next!

Put a "T" in before the filters and run that "un pottable water' line to the hoses, flushing toilet and wash basin. This will save on clogging up your water filters prematurely. Save the filtered water for drinking and cooking.

I thought a lot about that, but then I'm running a pipe for filtered water 100 feet to the sink inside the bathroom and a pipe of unfiltered water 100 feet for the toilet. If the filters become a real pain then I'll think about it, but doubling the work/cost of pipes doesn't add up for me. I would much rather know I can drink from the same sink I'm brushing my teeth with instead of having certain water you can drink but certain water you can't.

@@bkxc Digging one trench and throwing two pipes in is less work than digging one trench throwing in a pipe, then later re-digging a trench to throw a second pipe in. It also dosn't hurt to think a head if you're going to need power somewhere to drop an electrical conduit in for later use. I don't know what the price of filter canisters are in the US, but here they are pricey and once you have more visitors to the site the filters will need replacing more regularly. Given the slime that was in your water tanks I'd say you may be changing filters regularly. It is an assesment that only you can make.

This a serious test of the premise that you can teach yourself to do just about anything on KZread/Google, given a bit (lot) of patience, money, and N+1 trips to Home Depot. Most people would have just paid a company to come in and set up the well house, but there is a LOT to be said for becoming self reliant when you are going to be in remote country like this. Plus, it is fun as hell for the rest of us to follow along. Seeing some pros give you props on the job is just more icing!

You need to remove the plug from the blow off valve. Otherwise it won't be able to blow off to relieve pressure. It should be piped to a drain incase it needs to blow off or if it leaks. But as is, with the plug installed, it won't function or protect your system.

  • @bkxc

Yes!! A plumber on Patreon mentioned the same thing and I realize my mistake now. I thought the actual metal piece was the thing that blew off, should have done more research.

When you wear out your current set of tires (or sooner, if you get tired of being stuck in mud), have a look at the BFG K02. They're kinda squirmy while they break in, but they're otherwise very quiet and well behaved on the highway, and obviously perform very well in the mud. I put a pair on the back of my Sprinter and I've been really happy with them, gonna get a pair on the front when I wear down the all-seasons some more. The right tire makes all the difference in the world!

Just a couple small criticisms, put all the underground conduit together first end to end, then send a snake (or fish tape) through and pull wiring later. It will be 30 times easier. And always keep wiring solid where possible, just strip the jacket on the UF cable back further. In reality that’s meant for direct burial so you should have pulled single strand THHN, but you did a good job with what you had. Also, an angle grinder is not meant to cut wood, that’s more a job for fine tool or jig saw. Looking good Brian I commend you on your ambition to dive into the unknown head first, and you’re doing a great job of it 👍🏻

The wire was impossible to pull through the conduit because you were pulling jacketed, solid core wire. It's much, much, much easier if you get individual wires with braided copper conductors. Also, shoot some WD-40 down the conduit before pulling the wire through, and use a fish tape so you're pulling rather than pushing.
