“We Need People Who Can Do Jobs, Not Just Talk About Woke Agendas” | Chris McGovern

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has recently said she will "make clear" that gender ideology must be taught in school as a “contested belief” and not a fact.
Chairman of The Campaign for Real Education Chris McGovern joins Jeremy Kyle to discuss this further.

I'm an engineer, everything I do is based on maths. Trig is something I use constantly, for things like force vector calculations but I also use calculus a lot for more complex things like rates of heat transfer. This country is desperately short of engineers to the point where most companies are contracting out work to other countries. It's an excellent career and the pay is considerably above average. Get British kids educated in maths and get them an excellent future in engineering. People complain that Britain doesn't make anything any more and how can we when we don't have engineers? Teach kids maths and prioritise it. Make this country a great engineering nation again.

its not even about teaching people to be plumbers TEACH THEM REAL LIFE SKILLS EVERYONE NEEDS theres a whole world of stuff kids are not taught they NEED to manage in the world but instead they teach them stuff only a few will use cool kids can use algebra and trigernomotry im not saying thats not usefull but most couldnt even begin to understand the math involved in loan and credit cars or be able to efectivley calculate there tax codes its definatly a good that we all did cooking in school but why did they not take the time to teach kids how to effectivley shop and put together meal plans for the week to help them stick to a budget or teach them how to find out which product is cheaper by comparing price to weight

Schools should absolutely teach algebra and calculus and trigonometry. This country desperately needs engineers and it's a great career (I've been doing it for three decades) and maths is the basis for everything. I earn considerably above the average wage because of my maths skills and I'd like to see others do the same

I agree we need more teachers with experience in industry. The department for education has for years targeted senior level engineers for maths and science but how many could afford to leave a £50k senior engineering job for a starting salary of £24k to teach with only maybe up to £35k within the next decade? If they want experienced professionals then they only way to get us is with realistic pay. I would consider teaching but I can't afford that sort of pay cut, I've got a mortgage to pay

Sin cos tan anyone remember that in maths, yeah now tell me one instance since you've left school where you used that "skill" in your day to day life... Never like most people yet they pushed learning that bull before learning about mortgages, interest rates, looking after your accounts and savings. I'm not saying don't have those further math skills there but get the ones that will aid in the child's life sorted before teaching me how to work out what f is in an algebra equation

Anyone that goes into engineering is more than likely to use it. Engineering is one of the largest employment sectors in the UK. You need algebra to do good financial maths calculations - you start with the easy stuff first in education.

@@stevec6427 absolutley those things are usefull but why didnt you learn them in college instead of the other crap they made you learn along side the subjects you went to college for? you went to college to be a engineer but im guessing you also had to take some wholey unrelated crap bundled in when they could have just taught you the advance math and supporting knowledge for your field but meanwhile even in america you have kids being taught calculus who cant even do there own taxes they probably wont become engineers but theyll definatly need to know how to do taxes so why is highschool not focused on teaching the things EVERY child needs to exist as a human and college focuses on teaching you the specific things you need for your carrear im not saying there not usefull im saying theres a whole field of things we dont teach the kids that they will 1000% need to know but focus on things they might need if they go down a specific route ask a adult to explain how interest rates on credit cards work most of us dont know cause thats a whole mess of math few understand but atleast i know what pi is i guess and yes i need to learn grammar and punctuation i have autism its something ive struggled with forever but i tried funny part was i had to fight tooth and nail to be allowed to drop french as a subject in highschool so i could take extra classes in handwriting the idea id need to be able to write in english more than i need to speak french was a alien concept to the school

@@Sarge_Gaming At university I had lectures in maths, mechanics, control systems, design principles, material science, metallurgy and programming. There were no "side subjects", at university you only study within your specialism and this was only 5 years ago, I went back as a mature student to get my degree. Believe it or not, things like trig and calculus are relatively basic maths and just like languages, it's much easier to learn these things when you are young. If you learn these mathematical principles then household finances and credit cards are a doddle. At university level the maths takes on a whole different level (look up root -1 as an example) and involves a lot of analytical principles. You mention autism but you'd be amazed at the number of autistic (and dyslexic) engineers and mathematicians, the way the autistic brain works is really compatible with maths, a friend of mine wrote the first mathematical model of black holes and he's well in to the autistic spectrum.

It’s affecting movies it’s affecting computer games and school children are having all this stuff pushed on them
