This podcast is really about much more than just anime. It's a group of close friends supporting each other and genuinely caring about each other. Everyone has struggles in their own lives, to deny that is a lie. Life is a marathon, to have a better "later", you must have a "harder "now . I'm so glad I found this podcast, you guys got a fan for life. I'm a simp, I don't even care anymore.

Honestly, you guys can talk about jack shit and I'll be entertained. What makes me love this podcast is mainly because of the interactions between everyone and how I can personally vibe with the atmosphere that's created. Of course, the topics of anime and Japan are the main selling point, but I find myself being way more interested when the conversation diverges from that. I have never found myself interested in chess, but once you guys started talking about it I was actually invested in the conversation about it. My personal experience is "I listen to Trash Taste because I want to listen to Connor, Joey, and Garnt talk about whatever they want because no matter what they talk about I love to listen to them talking about it with each other" and not "I listen to Trash Taste because they talk about topics that I like"

I feel like it's difficult to compare Joeys'/Connor's videos to Garnt's because of the different approaches they take. For Joey and Connor, their draw is their on-screen wit and personality, the stuff the ad-lib, and the things they do. It's more straightforward for an editor to supplement that independently, I think. Meanwhile, Garnt's videos rely more on the interaction between visual clips, music, and his script. I can see why he has trouble letting go of control of the editing process because of the way his videos work. If I had to use an analogy, I'd say Garnt is more like a fine art painter while Joey and Connor are more like mangakas. Mangakas can get assistants and still produce works that can be considered their own, but if a painter gets an assistant, it rather changes the outcome of the piece. That said, I hope Garnt can find a solution that works best for him. Side note: I love both manga and fine art just as much so I do not consider it a criticism of any of the boys when I use those examples as an analogy for their respective processes. Both are beautiful for different reasons.

The topics discussed on the podcast are also interesting such as the behind the scenes of youtube and the topics to do with japan that most people dont talk about such as the excessive paperwork or annoyance when getting an apartment etc. Anyway im loving the podcast each week boys and i have watched every episode that has been released so far, the podcast is the highlight of my week, keep up the good work boys and also shoutout to maline (not sure how to spell her name) for her behind the scenes work you the real MVP.

The editing part was interesting to listen to. I'm think I'm more in the Soviet Womble boat, who once said that the editor is the KZreadr. While I don't really agree with him fully, when it comes to content like mine the editing basically IS the content. I take loads of footage from myself and the guys in my unit and put it together to basically create a story like a modern day machinima, and more often than not the actual story my videos tell is not what actually happened. I move audio around, leave out certain scenes and all sorts, all to make a funnier video. I still have editors I work with very rarely for my sillier multiplayer games with mates kind of content, but when I first trialled editors I realised that a lot of the people who applied and I paid to make a test video (I edited a video using the raw footage and then had like 6-7 different editors do their own edits using the footage as well and compared) were technically good editors, but bad story tellers or comedians. For instance one left the set up of a joke in, but cut the punchline from the video. My mate Spiff said the most important part is getting an editor that basically "gets" your content and I definitely agree, but it's still hard. I suppose I enjoy the actual video creation side of KZread more than the just pure recording side. Maybe if I was doing more video essays and scripted videos I'd feel differently.

I really appreciate listening to that last segment on what it takes to be a youtuber, learning how to be humble throughout the process and to not develop a hubris from talking about (in my case anyway) Japanese cartoons lol. Its pretty absurd when you see people bragging about it when at the end of the day, its nothing to flex about in general. I really gained some insight from spacing your "successful videos" on your particular channel. For me personally, I'll gain a few hundred views making a review on "X" anime but when I decided to make a "reaction" video to an anime opening the flood gates opened with views, subs, etc which is a bit of a double edge sword (for me) because I think its really bare bones fast food content to begin with. So my biggest "existential crisis" I currently have on youtube is how much of the stuff do I want to put out that I enjoy, vs how much "fast food" content I'll space out going forward because for whatever reason thats what people want but something I myself not necessarily care about period. One last thing, I always appreciated how much you guys talk about your individual personal lives more so than anything about anime. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE those discussions to but hearing you guys talk about KZread burnout, or your experiences in Japan is what got me hooked onto Trash Taste immediately.

Fuck I know that pain, I'm also getting an engineering degree and it fucking sucks. The worst part is that the questions and assignments aren't crazy hard (usually) it's just everything is really depressing, expensive, and I don't like it. Like if I was super passionate about it I'd have a 4.0. I'm in this weird state of burnout where I don't want to do anything. The good news is have a well paying job lined up for me when I graduate, so it's not too bad. There's not much hardcore engineering in the job which is good, cause I don't really care about it.

I always thought it was “D’s get degrees”. In Germany there’s a few similar phrases: “Bestehen ist bestehen” which means, passing is passing, and “Vier gewinnt”, which literally means “four wins”. The latter is a play off the game Connect Four which is called Vier Gewinnt in Germany and the fact that a Vier (4) is a passing grade (the equivalent of a D in the US).
