As someone who always adopts a baby Slime or Magma Cube, I was grinning the whole time you were discovering the magic and monotony of having the best pet! The lead doesn't work because, although unable to harm you, baby slimes are still classified as hostile mobs. Oh dang! Nice decorating! Jimmy better do some more mining and give you a bonus!

Fun fact: baby slimes cannot hurt you. It’s only the bigger ones (and small magma slimes). And slimes in fact are under friendly mob sounds because apparently apparently the idea behind it is that they’re not actually trying to hurt the player. They’re just trying to hug them or some other kind of friendly thing?? But when they’re bigger, they hurt. So when they’re tiny, they don’t hurt anymore, but they still will follow the player…yet somehow they’re still considered a hostile mob, just not in sounds.

Baby slime is just such a little baby. I love them so much. I’ll usually keep a bunch of them in a little sanctuary because they’re so cute

in theory you could have cheesed this in a really fun way. nametagging a big slime passes the name on to its smaller forms... so like - could have left a few boats worth of "insurance" in the swamp lol - only used one nametag on one mob - they're all the same

Fun fact! The reason slimes hurt is cause they're trying to hard to give you a hug. Lil slimes are to lil to hurt you with their hugs

early on in MC development, baby slimes were popular pets before wolves and cats existed because they do no damage. slimes body slam you, they hurt by crushing, babies are just too smol. magma cubes are a clearer example of this because they jump higher, but magma slimes also have a burning inner core which is the only way baby magma slimes hurt you
