A little background info, we both got sick and had to quarantine ourselves for our first week in the city. Luckily, we're slowly traveling and we have another week to explore Kuala Lumpur. We still managed to find some incredible things to do in Kuala Lumpur too. We made our way to iconic places too like Batu Caves, while also getting our first taste of tasty Malaysian food. Just venture the outskirt of KL. It will be worth it. If probable, befriend some locals to guide you to the best spots for eatery and many other things. Or just hire one. You will not regret it.

It's called komune living. There are two locations. This one was a bit outside the central area of the city but the metro station was a short walk

Probably the lowest language barrier any place we've been so far. A good deal of the country also speaks English
Are Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur better than New York and Chicago ?

Overall, I'd say not quite but they all have different appealing factors and distinct things to make them special. As budget travelers though, we'll always favor where the best experience is for the lowest cost. In that regard, KL and Bangkok are better
As a black man did you notice something with the malaysian people? Did they staring or anything else?

Funny, my first time through SE Asia about 10 years ago I noticed it a lot. I literally had an old lady try and run after me while I was jogging in Vietnam. This time around it hasn't been as bad. There were definitely more stares in Malaysia than I felt anywhere else, mainly in KL not so much the rest of the country. But I just stare right back at them and they divert their eyes.
