    Running your aircon at 18 to get it “down to temp” isn’t really necessary or efficient . The ACTUAL air temp coming out of the unit is the same wether it’s set at 24 or 18 ( if you hold a thermometer right up close to the unit it’s around 10 degrees Celsius) however it obviously turns the compressor motor off earlier at 24 like you were eventually doing. Also need to invest in a handheld uhf spotters radio , alot safer and easier to use than yelling out to someone who can’t see you and barely hear you

    awesome vid... question regarding your battery monitor as i have the same system and find it confusing. You said it was about 70%, however the volts was at 12.9 suggesting about 20%. What is the best way to read these? volts or battery image. My volts often seem really low even when the battery is showing 70% or more like yours was. 16:07 on the vid for reference. Thanks guys, keep up the brilliant work.

  • @SarahandKeelanTravels

    @SarahandKeelanTravels

    Thanks mate, it all depends on load, so yes you are correct if the load was 14amps and it was reading 12.9 v or 12.8v would be 20-30% roughly SOC left, but our load was up around the 70-100amps so if reading 12.9 is 70% because as soon as I turn off the aircon it returns it 13.2v with around 14 amps of load still on the system. If that make sense, the bigger the load the more the voltage will reduce under that load

    Love the video. One question, you show the battery charging at 54.6a, then say PLUS solar at 11.4a.? Isn’t the 54.6a including solar already as it’s the net result of the charge and the load? I could be wrong but that’s my understanding. Be interested to know, cheers Paul (fellow XTreme owner)

  • @SarahandKeelanTravels

    Yep you 100% can but the top of the van on the lower side was in the trees and lifting it would have put it further into the trees and solar was resting on branches ect, your correct though, normally I would of just raised it up on the low side,

    Respectfully your 100% wrong. If you have 2kw (2000w) of solar on your roof and 100ah of battery’s you’ll be able to run your aircon all day during sun hours while keeping your batteries fully charged.. If you have 0.5kw (1/4 of the solar 500w) of solar & 400ah (4x the battery power) you’ll be able to run it for 3-4 hours max and your batteries are dead. Solar is key, battery’s are not. Big battery systems are for cloudy days and weeks not running air cons in the hot sunny conditions. Thanks for watching mate

    @@SarahandKeelanTravels Keelan, I appreciate your perspective on this topic. You've made some valid points about the importance of solar power for running RV air conditioners. However, it's worth noting that many RV owners operate with more modest solar installations, often around 400 watts or less, and limited battery capacity. In reality, discussions about balancing solar and battery power are crucial. While solar power is undoubtedly essential, it's also important to ensure that the battery system can provide sufficient energy, especially during less sunny days. So, while your insights regarding solar power are valuable, it's essential to consider the practicality of the setup for many RV owners. Finding the right balance between solar and batteries remains a key consideration to help the broader RV community address these challenges. Thanks for being a legend and engaging in this conversation and sharing your knowledge! David.
