As a 62--year--old gay man who entered adulthood not having happy gay films and stories, I give this movie my stamp of approval. Brokeback Mountain was a fantastic Oscar--worthy film, but dammit, we needed a happy teen-romance piece of fluff with a halfway decent budget and production values. Love, Simon aspired to no more than that, and it greatly succeeded! Fun fact: Keiynan Lonsdale, who played Bram, also had notable roles as Kid Flash on CW's "The Flash" and is an out actor himself. Come to think of it, a notable portion of actors on that show are either out or played gay characters. In spite of the troubling amount of anti-LGBT laws being proposed across the country, it's wonderful that gay characters and couples are appearing in both TV shows and commercials (yes, quite a few ads have same-sex couples if you pay attention).

Aw! Thank you so much for sharing, and we absolutely agree, it's more important than ever to keep representation like this alive, and keep pushing for more. It's hard to stay positive given what's happening right now, but it's heartening to read comments like this and know there are still strong communities of good people around. My best to you, with all the love in the world! ❤️Jacqui

Fun fact: In the Book Leah actually IS into Nick and Simon thinks that she likes him. I prefer the book version of that part, and his friends are a little less awful. My favorite missing scene from the book is when Abby and Leah do Simon's makeup backstage. It's a nice quiet moment of Simon exploring himself outside of traditional masculinity. I do think the movie really sells a lot of scenes, especially Simon's conversation with his mom which is original and the streamlined plot is very appreciated as the book was a bit bloated. Honestly this is one of the few cases where I like both the book and film and really couldnt pick a favorite. It's not 1:1 and I dont think most adaptations should be, but both versions have really good strengths.

Aw! The scene of them putting on his makeup sounds beautiful, and I'm definitely sorry we didn't get to see it. I might just have to go read the book now! It's a rare treat when, even if they're different, both the book and adaptation are excellent. I have a very, very short list of books/movies I can say that about! Thank you for the lovely and thoughtful comment! ❤️Jacqui

I know that this movie isn't universally loved at all but I think it was a very important movie because it got us one step closer to not only dramatic and sad LGBTQ+ movies but also simply happy and uplifting once (and both sides are very important to represent, the struggles and problems are necessary to point out but films like this help best in coming to terms with yourself and also simply show how a "mostly perfect" world should be so everybody can work on it). I think this movie is one of the stepping stones we needed for other similar project like recently Heartstopper to become what they are today (Also I am very excited for your Heartstopper reaction ;)

For all the issues this film may have, I still enjoy it and the spinoff series Love, Victor. Having books and films like Simon Vs the Homosapien Agenda and Love, Simon is important to so many people and definitely made me feel seen when consuming both versions of the story.

I adore this film. My niece and some of her friends went to see it when it played the local cinema (small city of 51,000). I didn’t realize at the time that it was a mainstream movie, which is definitely different from other LGBTQ+ films. When it came out on DVD she recommended I watch it. Now I could’ve rented it at the video store or waited for it to come on a movie channel, but I bought the DVD instead. I watched it and had such a great time watching it. I laughed, felt anger, cried, and felt joy. It’s such a well done movie! It’s definitely become a favorite LGBTQ+ film to watch over and over again. The others are The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green and Get Real (although I no longer own a copy of it as I lent it to a friend who had a friend who wanted to see it so I told them to let them borrow it and then that friend had a friend and well at some point I lost track of who even was borrowing it). Great reaction!! And yeah, by the time the film is getting to the end I had no idea who it was going to be and was pleasantly surprised by the reveal. My niece has read the book the film is based on and said there were some changes between the two, but she said the changes probably were made so that the same overall story could be told in the different medium of film that is told in the medium of book. Which I’m okay with because I do realize different media employ various ways to convey the same thing. The written media has means to express things or provide information that the visual media had to express in other ways. Since then she’s given me several other things on my “to watch list” including the series based on around the same general concept. I haven’t gotten to it yet, but it’s on my list of things to watch. Thanks for making and sharing!

I have to say Abby had all the right to be angry at Simon. I understand that he was put in a difficult position being blackmailed but you still shouldn’t be pawning off your friends. I get that it was a very sticky situation but he should’ve told her about the whole situation right after coming out to her. Even if he had good intentions that doesn’t clear him of all the damage he created, she had all the right to be angry at him. Also the reason I feel like they were all able to regroup together is because they were such close friends that they were able to air out their feelings and take time so no apology was needed.

"You deserve a goddamn superhero. And that superhero is me. Date me or I'll ruin your friend's life." - Martin, basically I refuse to pretend that there was any genuine affection behind that stunt or the football game stunt. Martin thinks the world revolves around him and that he deserves sex at any cost. Abby would be a trophy to him. She has no reason to feel guilty for rejecting him when he puts her on the spot in public like that.

Perks of Being a Wallflower is such a wonderful faithful adaptation! It's very clear the author was the director and script writer due to how amazingly faithful it is. Love it so much!

I love this movie so much, when I came out my brothers felt kinda weird about it at first but they eventually accepted me, my sisters and my dad accepted without any problems but my mom was the one that didn't accept it and she still feels uncomfortable about it I can tell but she tries not to tell me anything that would upset me in any way because she still sees me as her child.

See in the book, Bram was the kinda out of left field person. He was there and Simon thought he was cute, but he hadn't considered it until Bram showed up on the ride, which was a far less public thing. He had considered a few people, Alex was one, who did turn out to be gay also and even asked Simon out (turned him down because he wasn't Blue), can't remember if the Waffle House guys was in the mix. So I was surprised when they put Bram out there as the guy initially and dash that right off, clearly a move to confuse the book readers.

Thanks for this! Great reaction video 🙏🥰 Not sure if you'd be into them (and/or would've already seen them) but I highly recommend binging The Fosters and Good Trouble. Whether as a reaction, or just on your own for enjoyment purposes. The sheer scope of topics they cover over the course of the two series is absolutely astounding, there is literally nothing else like them, and the Queer representation is astronomical! 🌈💕 Thanks again for the content! Consider me subscribed! 😊😍

I'm glad they could have a gay movie with a happy ending. Wow! You mean they don't end up dead in the end? Still, there were subtle but powerful moments like when Simon is totally traumatized and shakes and stutters when Martin is blackmailing him. Also, maybe it's just me, but I read internal trauma with the cafeteria scene. Quiet on the outside, while dying on the inside.

Actually my father had no problem with me being gay he treated me the way he always did I was his son he was my dad didn't matter to him that I was gay. It was my mother who had the problem with it but we managed to work through it and she accepted me eventually. But my dad he had no problem with me being gay. He pretty much told me he didn't understand what to say to me fully about it, but I was his son and he loved me.
