I thought of her Saturday seeing Complete Shelley. I've wanted to read In the Villa by Rachel Atkins. I read on thanks to her spur. As another texted, I watched for her vitality and enthusiasm, her honesty; not always the choices. Jennifer's lucidity and ease in presentation was tremendous. The good die young, is an old chestnut, yet so true for her.

I am going to read the Life and Times of Dante and both volumes of Vasari. I had never heard of Vasari before and learned so much from both of them. She had a great love of Dante and certainly passed it on to me. (Well, both she and Tom from LA who did the fabulous video of The Divine Comedy.

Thanks for the video. I'll miss Jenny's erudition and love of the Classics and History. Calling someone nice sometimes doesn't seem enough but the world would be a better place with more nice people in it and Jenny always seemed nice. I think this might be the right time for me to finally read Dante. I'll read the Villa. I might re-read Animal Farm too. You two managed to get me to listen to Kpop too, which was a harder sell than the books.

Jenny was amazing and she will be missed.💔 I only interacted with her via comments, but I watched all her videos and was genuinely heartbroken when I heard about her passing away. I already have some options for February. I rewatched a video about her favourite books of all time and from those I'm going to read 'Interview with the Vampire' by Anne Rice. I bought 'How to Sell a Haunted House' by Grady Hendrix, which was one of her recent recommendations, hope to read that one too. For religion I might go with 'Judita', which is a retelling of Judith, by a Croatian author Miro Gavran. I's like to read it from the Bible as well and see how they compare. I remember her video about reading K-pop stars recommendations in which she read 'The Devotion of Suspect X' by Keigo Higashino. That was the one she gave five stars to, so that's the one I'll be reading. For Italy I have many options. I might go with Rome and read a nonfiction book 'A History of the Roman Empire in 21 Women' by Emma Southon. Since she loved reading about Roman emperors, maybe I'll go with 'I, Claudius' by Robert Graves or 'Augustus' by John Williams. And since she went to Sicily recently and also read Shakespeare, maybe I'll pick up 'The Winter's Tale', which is set in Sicily. I'll definitely try to find a book about Richard III, as well as 'Letters to Milena' by Franz Kafka. Thanks for hosting this readathon. It's a wonderful tribute to Jenny. God bless you. 🙏

I think I will join in the group read and the book on Paul and the book on the canon. I also wanted to read a Wilke Collins. I am actually planning a readathon about Rome for March and April and I was going to read Horace in her memory. I am so sorry, Christy, for the loss of your close friend. Thanks for putting this special readathon together! I've requested The Villa and a few books about King Alfred the Great from my library, and I'll look for others fulfilling the rest of the prompts when I'm there in person later this week. I remember Jennifer had at least one video on books about King Alfred, who's also one of my favorite historical figures in addition to my 36-greats-grandpap. I am always interested in people who aren’t just reading the latest TikTok book or what publishers have sent them, but those going into classics or historical works. Thank you for doing this. I was stunned when I came across the announcement from her mother on her channel. She was such a young and vibrant woman. And of course I cannot listen to EXO without thinking about Jenny. #EXOLs4Life. I followed Jennifer and loved her! It was such a shock. I do not think it unreasonable to ask...how did she die? What actually happened? Why is no one mentioning this? She was so young!!

She died of the human condition......being mortal. Whether an infant dying of starvation, a 19-year-old soldier dying in a trench, a 31-year old dropping dead, or an old guy (like me) of 70+ looking at ever shortening days, our fate is sealed, and comes too soon. BookTube is the examination, via the written and spoken word, of the mortal condition and the systems that support it. It's always a sad or joyful experience, depending on your situation and outlook. She knew these facts, which is why so many connected with her. Jennifer was good at BookTube. She lived a good life, and we, here, are briefly gathered to celebrate this one exemplary life. Watch the clip again. See the progression from smiling infant to serious but still smiling adult. The details are the details, and if you ask enough times, they may come to light. But the underlying facts of her wonderful mortality will not change.

Hi Christy. I feel so lucky that I found Jennifer Brooks book tube videos. She gave me so many book ideas that I got-Renaissance, Wilkie Collins, various history books. etc. I have plenty of books to remember her by. I will be reading one of the Renaissance based books this year that originally came from Jenny's recommendations. I want to also read The Villa.

I plan to continue purchasing books this year based on Jennifer's recommendations as well. She was such a special person, had a profound impact on my life, and I will be thinking of her each and every day.

Thank you so much for doing this. I've been heartbroken since the announcement. I also realized how much of my 2024 tbr is due to Jennifer. Most notably doing a deep dive into Ancient Lit, and reading The Woman in White for the first time. Looks like all of 2024 - and beyond - will be a tribute to her. I loved the way her passion and personality shone through in her videos. She is greatly missed.

It’s very difficult to lose a dear friend at anytime, but especially when your loved one is so young and their passing is unexpected. Jenny was an inspiration to so many. Take care and thank you for making room for all of us to remember and honour Jennifer. ✝️❤️

Thanks for this video, I can’t imagine how difficult this must have been to make. I think this is the perfect way to honour Jenny and I think she would have approved. There are so many great choices for this readathon, not surprising considering how many passions Jenny had. So far I have Varney the vampire and also Man and Wife by Wilkie Collins (Jenny mentioned wanting to read it this year). I am also really interested in Letters to Milena, The Robe and plan to get The Villa as well. I have saved the K-pop playlist to listen to. I wish you, Pam and all Jenny’s friends and family love and healing right now ❤

I smiled when you talked about ‘obsessed’ being one of her favorite words, that’s something I’ll always remember about her, there were so many things she was enthusiastic about and made you want to discover as well. I think I’ll probably read a Wilkie Collins and some Dostoyevsky short stories but there is so much to explore and I know that will continue for a very long time. Much love 💚

❤❤❤🤗 I'm so glad to see you, Christy. It's still so hard to process what happened. I loved hanging out with you and Jenny in your sprints, and I always felt like she knew me and my reading taste better than pretty much anyone on booktube. I honestly considered her a friend. I've been reading Bunny by Mona Awad, which she was sure I would love and I really really am, which is both wonderful and heartwrenching at the same time. I wish I could talk to her about it. For the readathon, I want to read Interview with the Vampire for the first time, and I'll also read The Ghost and Mrs Muir, a book from my TBR that I recommended to her based on her plea for romance-with-a-ghost recs. She sounded really excited to track that one down, and I was hoping to read it with her when she did. Thanks so much for hosting this readathon. I know it must be hard, but it'll be great to come together as a community to remember her. ❤
