I’m forever grateful for all your love and support. Please remember ones “outer world” doesn’t always reflect their “inner world”. About a year ago I had a really tough conversation with my mum after she had messaged me saying that she was glad to see me “looking so happy” in what was my most recent video at the time. The conversation that followed was tough because I then had to open up to her and say that actually, in reality, I had been feeling extremely low throughout the filming and had ‘faked it’. It was during the van build, I was stressed with the build, I was still getting used to being on my own, I had been isolated on the farm for months due to the Covid lockdown, not looking after myself properly, missing my dog and to top it all off it was fucking cold. But I had committed to deadlines so I filmed anyway. The fact that I could fool my own mum just highlights how good we have become at ‘putting on a brave face’ when in front of others. Or cameras. Social media is a prime example of where this happens most. People rarely show their down moments. And the issue with this is that it can make those that are struggling feel alone. Comparison is a bitch, especially if you’re comparing yourself to a highlight reel. We need to normalise letting our true emotions show, especially in front of those close to us. Not only does it open us up to receiving support, it also shows others that it’s okay not to be okay. The funny thing is I only feel comfortable talking about it now because I am feeling good. I am motivated. I have plans. I am excited for what’s to come. However. I no longer only ‘smile for the camera’ Love you all 💛

I love that instead of seeing the rain as a bad thing, Max found some positive aspect and decided to enjoy his day. I also loved Occy feeling empowered to go off to the water on his own and his love of Max showed through when he was worried about Max suddenly being flung from the nice safe shore out into the middle of the river where all kinds of mysterious things could befall him without Occy right there close by his side. I loved that Max got to spend some time back in Nature and that it made him slow down and relax. I also chuckled of the irony of "water water everywhere, but not a drop to ...shower with. "

Max, as someone who is having no major problems with the lock down, it's hardly changed my life, I still appreciate hearing how hard you find it. I am a reader, gardener, bird breeder, have 2 dogs and a house to run. My 3 kids are in Canberra and Adelaide, I'm in Sydney. I have elderly parents who need to be driven to appointments, they're my day trips. My husband has worked throughout, not had any time off. I am alone 90% of the time, but I am happy in my own company. Getting into nature is the best therapy, walking barefoot on the grass is beneficial for your health, it grounds you in many ways. Even if you're in a city, you can pull weeds in the park, my sister in law has done that for years. It calms her. Love seeing Occy so clean after all that swimming, he's such a happy dog.

I love that you shared the “reality” that comes with living: happiness is fleeting just like every other feeling we experience. The good news is, it will return, and will be even sweeter when we live in gratitude. I liked this simple, slower paced video aka: peace. When You jumped off the swing and Occy had something to say about it, he sounded just like my sweet pup who visited me in my dreams last night. I miss my road-dog; treasure every moment with Occy; such a blessing to have the love/companionship of a furry best friend! ❤️✌🏽

I went and shared it with an ex girlfriend of 20yrs ago and got some real hugs and cried, so being seen in my vulnerability and by someone I love has grounded me again, it doesn’t fix it but it definitely helps to lighten the load. @@KristinaKk_xx120 Yes it definitely helps having a dog best friend & companion it also helps to be responsible for another living being and their welfare, as that helps to ground me at times when I’m not coping so well, and he makes me laugh, and if I’m down I watch funny dog & cat videos, or people falling over videos which I know is sort of mean, but they just make me laugh until I cry, both my parents were like that too, and my Sister so it doesn’t make me feel so bad, only when they don’t get hurt, but also because I’m very clumsy myself and have managed to break both my ankles from silly slipping over, so I reckon that means I can laugh at others when I can laugh at myself. Remember try and do one thing a day that’s positive for you or your living environment, doesn’t matter how small, and remember you are a warrior for what you have survived, and that it’s ok to not be ok, one day at a time, and if that’s too hard on a particular day just get through the next hour or 2 hrs. The whole of everything we have to do is too much so take small bites we wouldn’t try to fit a whole pizza in our mouth at once because it’s too big no way to chew and we would choke, it’s the same with everything else little pieces at a time and even if it takes all week to finish the vacuuming it’s ok because you did it, doesn’t matter how long it takes, we don’t have to compete with some arbitrary time limit we aren’t failing, we are getting there in the time it takes us to do it in. One small bite at a time. It helps me when I say out loud what I am grateful for I don’t always remember to do it, but I try at least to be grateful for one thing especially when I am struggling, so like I’m grateful for the sunny day today. Sending kind thoughts.

I believe that is where important tools like therapy and meditation come in. I know they have both helped me. And yes! how nice was the promised lands in the rain? I think I actually enjoyed it more in that setting than I had in the stinking hot. Shows sometimes when it's wet outside you should just go for it and enjoy the shower!

I don't usually read the 'pins' (mainly not realizing what might be in them), so when I was preparing to make a comment your words threw me for their truth. One of my daughters recently went to her GP to discuss her growing anxiety - something I had not piced up on despite living in the same home. I am glad she said something to me, discussed everything with the doctor, did not hide it all behind her migraines (probably why I did not pick up on things) and is taking medication. The tell for her was not being interested in reading - for pleasure or academics. For anyone already suffering from a mental wellness, or any other wellniess crisis, the last 19 months only added to confusing map of life. Yes, be kind. Always. We do not know what others are going through. Thank you Max.

Imagine life being a long piece of string that is wadded up in places instead of being in a straight line. The wadded or bunched up areas are when we have to deal with tough things and work our way through them. So grief and depression will take as long as they will take for us to work through them. 💜

We sure do live in a beautiful part of the world. Poor Occy when you jumped into the water from the rope. He really does love his Dad.😉 I hope you are feeling much better and were able to see your family as planned. I am currently in NSW and it has been a very rough couple of years, having to go through all this on my own. P.S. Airfryers are the BEST invention ever. 😁

Beautiful video. I love how protective Occy is and his reaction when you jumped into the water off the swing. I've never seen Occy so upset and fearful. Great that you didn't repeat it because he probably would've been more upset. Nice you chose the lower swing to be with him.

Dear Max. Thanks for posting a video. I hope you will continue to share some of your life with us because it really helps me to cope with some inner struggles. You and Lee were my introduction into vanlife and I was enthralled with the adventures. Then that chapter and ended but your lives became so relatable. How to pick up and begin again. Lee’s unexpected death hit me so hard and triggered some feelings and emotions I’ve dealt with intermittently. Both of you sharing this real life, the authenticity of what it means to be coping in a world fallen apart since Covid. You have such a kindness about you that is truly rare. By continuing to vlog and share real emotions you are inspiring probably hundreds maybe thousands to seek therapy, to embrace family, to immerse in nature and stay hopeful. I love your van build. It’s the best one on KZread. That hatch overhead is a favorite. Being able to see the sky, the rain falling. And to have fresh air flowing through. Your van is such a practical way to live close to nature. Hugs from Idaho.

It's so important to understand the healing strength of time alone. It is time that we all spend without much thought of alone time. Learning to be comfortable with your own self and your feelings. These are the issues that become front and center when we are alone. Quite healing and very important. Cheers Max & Occy!!

Occys like your health and safety adviser on that swing 😅. Thank you for opening up about how you been feeling. So easy for people to look at other peoples lives and compare them to our own. Even thinking other peoples lives are better but we all have struggles and no matter where you are or what your doing in the world, those struggles will follow you. And it's exactly what you said, it's how you deal with those struggles that count 🙌

If there is anything from lockdown I have learnt, (I'm in Melbourne and (unlovingly), call it the most lock-downable city in the world), it is to go with the flow. As an introvert I loved lockdowns at the start. I was recovering from cancer surgery, and, as a form of therapy, began making videos of all sorts of arts and crafts. Choosing what brings me joy, and what I had put off for most of my life. By now, a year and a half later, missing important birthdays, being far from family - I take each day as it is and as it comes. Whatever emotions come, sometimes days of seeing no-one and only doing some art. I don't feel like making videos so much. I feel there's nothing much to say. I'm studying and painting. I love the run away boat as a metaphore for 'this whole weird covid time and some self exploration. Do we chase it or let it go? How important is it? Does going to get the boat create a new current, a new decision, a new pathway? Making decisions to jump only when and if it is necessary. Just some thoughts as I am about to come out of the longest lockdown. It's been great to see Northern NSW, rivers and beaches. So thanks for sharing that Max. I cant wait to get going after we come out of it this Friday and get into nature.

Beautiful vid Max. I am 60 years old and when I was about your age I came up with my personal mantra for coping in this roller coaster we call life. "I cannot control the things around me. I can only control my reaction to them." You said it Max. I'm happy to say that this attitude has kept me healthy, happy and successful in reaching my dreams. I loved seeing Occy tuckered out on the back of the kayak. Priceless.

Take care, looking forward to your new adventures. All the best to you and Occy!
