We were 50 when we started our ICF home. Began with basement, used our exterior walls as bearing walls for the metal truss’s & metal roof. Been 23yrs & love the quiet, this house has been wonderful.

I was one first trained in building these type of houses. Man has it been a long time. But funny these and the much cheaper concrete walls really don't have any difference except lots savings. Both quite efficient

Every time I see folks build their own homes..I get a smile. You appreciate people in the trades so much more and you love and take care of your home much better then the average owner because you know all the aspects of how it was built and how to maintain it. Cant wait to build mine Hopefully next year. Icf foundations are so badass

ICF is way underused in the US. We built our home with Logix blocks. Been here 6 years and could not be happier. Huge energy savings - house feels so solid. Built for$80/sqft

@@oci464 so the ICF work-block, rebar bucks etc all done by me and my wife- we took a course and did a lot of research before we started. We hired a guy to do the pour. That was around $2000.00 for 2 days work for two guys- well worth it. I was the GC for all of the work on the house. We did some work ourselves- some interior painting some interior trim, and I did some of the final plumbing. If you have not been a GC before don’t let that scare you. There are good books on how to do it.

Looking really great guys!! BTW, I surpassed my record mixing concrete in a mixer. 11 Mixes in one 9hr day. 2 bags quickcrete @88lbs each, 1 bucket lime, 2 small bags anti-crack fibre, and one scoop hosphere. I didn't count the shovels of sand or water used, but it was a lot. 1 mix filled 2 wheel barrows to the brim. 5 plasterers on the wall plus 2 labourers hauling buckets up. I could barely keep up. Got the house done with scratch + finish coat today. Now it has to sit till everything cures and ready for the pre-mix stucco coating and texture. The client will be amazed when we are all cleaned up and done. Cheers, Blessings!

I like how you two compliment each other, verbally as well, as you work through different things together, and show each other how much you care for each other in so many ways! These build videos could be an hour long, and I'd sit here and watch it all, but understand this is just a part of your lives right now and you have so many more things going on we never see, that takes up your time. @@aniketsharma3177 I can’t speak for Brandon but myself, I’m a certified Draftsnan and Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter with over 34 years in the housing industry. Having said that tho, in BC (again can’t speak for Ontario cuz I don’t live there) anyone can draw up a house plan and submit it for building permit. It’s at that time that the City Building Officials will ask for a Professionaly Draftsman or Architect design or Engineer’s stamp. Now Commercial Building or Multi Family Developments, those require Architects and Engineers, always. For my ICF Design Build I was required to have an Engineer sign off on the rebar as I live in an earthquake zone.

@@aniketsharma3177 You can make the plans and take them to a certified engineer to stamp them if you are not certified yourself. Build smarter not harder. This is why I think all engineers should have been in the trade first so they know the process. Engineers around where I live have become really sloppy lately. We had one build that because the engineer did not get out of their car to check the land, their owner probably paid and extra $20,000 to have a huge 12 ft retaining wall made that was not even needed and now the back yard of the neighbor instead of having a nice sunrise to see, its just a giant concrete wall.

It is nice to see, that ICF gets popular, resulting in better quality, longer lasing homes. However, I miss some basic things from almost all ICF building videos: - no vapor barrier between footer and wall - using ICF with minimal thermal insulation (external wall of the ICF block has the same thickness as the internal)

My mom's house was built like this. it was great except for the crew would put up walls one day and plan to concrete the next, only for wind to blow the walls over in the night. Those metal supports I see in the video seem like a huge boon that the builder didn't use 15 years ago. I also love the fancy metalwork inside the blocks. Once it's all done I can attest that it's pretty well insulated on the sides and the biggest heat sink will be how well the roof is insulated. I also like to think it's better fire resistant but haven't ever had to put that to the test (knock on wood).

I helped my brother in law build their home using foam blocks very similar to these (had steel mesh internal rather than plastic). Went up in rows of six with tons of rebar and then did concrete fills. We did have one block blow out during concrete fill. Lost a lot of concrete during fill - used a sheet of thick plywood and Mr Massey Ferguson to stop the loss.
