We Have 12 Hours to Find as Many Rare Birds as Possible
During early spring, we try to find as many rare birds as possible in 12 hours. Our targets include a mega-rare Painted Redstart, Hudsonian Godwits, Yellow-throated Warbler, Smith's Longspurs, Cackling Geese, Eurasian Wigeon, Franklin's Gull and more. How many will we be able to see before time runs out?

Bill, I agree. Birding is living.
I didn't realize a painted redstart would make it all the way to Wisconsin. That was awesome!
I hope you keep a diary of your birding - where they are, when - what the weather is like - that information would be quite interesting to environmentalists!

Ebird keeps most of that info for you. Other than the weather that is.
Thanks for taking us along, that was exciting to see. Another awesome video...Happy Birding.
Always love your rare bird findings!! ❤
Super fun. I really enjoyed this vicarious birding adventure.
I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel. I love your content. Keep it coming!
This kind of video is so fun, it's almost like just hanging out with the two of you, tagging along. I haven't got enough knowledge to fully understand why all these rare birds are rare (though I did get it about the Redstart) but it was fun anyway! I admit - rare or not, I'd have been VERY excited about the Herons. My son and I have taken to keeping watch for "unusual" birds when we're driving to do errands. I put quotes on that because honestly as new as we are to this, anything could be "unusual"!
You would have a hard time dragging me away from that Painted Redstart! Well done, fellas.

We spent a lot of time there! It helped that it was so high up and harder to see
Good video! It would be interesting for those unfamiliar with the places you visited to see a map of where you went during those 12 hours.
Nice idea for a challenge! I’ll probably try this myself at some point. If you want to get really crazy, do a “self-found” rare bird challenge! Might need to give yourself more time for that one.
Love your effort and your enjoyment!
Thanks for sharing another wonderful video like always 🐦👍🤗
I actually got a painted redstart in Northern California, which was a big deal. But of course I got better shots in Arizona as well. Super cool Birds 🙂 Good job guys. Thanks for the video 👍
Wow, this is a great channel, whish I had known about it earlier. You got another subscriber! Looking forward to the content
FORMER METAL BIRD COMMERCIAL PILOT HERE. Love to see those singing flying things. Seen flocks in the middle of the caribbean Fantastics flyiers.
I think on this one the Smiths Longspurs was my favorite I've never heard of this bird before today nice one guys !
Great job finding the rarities!
Big Congrats on seeing 5 rare birds. You guys are AWESOME 😊

Bro spoiled the whole video
Was very surprised to see the Yellow throated warbler up there!
Hey! I'm still a very much unskilled amateur, but I'm confident that I saw a hooded oriole here in El Paso, TX. It was across the street from me and it only landed for about five seconds. But it had solid black with a yellowish orange, primarily orange color to it. Very rare around my neighborhood, anyway. Super cool! Maybe it was a male Bullock's oriole.
Thank you!
Nice to see the bird-population, rare or not, in the Winsconsin area. So different to our bird-population in Holland/Europe. Thanks!!
You made it over toward my part of the state that day. Looks like you had a fun day.
Great episode! And yes please do it again. 😊
Fun day.
Good birding challenge. Congratulations!
I want your complete video there Derek and Ryan I think the Painted Redstart was one of the best that you got in your 12-hour span . I looked at the Sibley app and I noticed the Painted Redstart has gone as far east as Massachusetts , think about that , that's a bird that's normally only seen in Arizona .
birding for 24 hours straight should be your next challange lol, great job guys 5 rare birds is amazing for 12 hours!

Nice video! 👍
Your vids got me into birding. I'm still new to this but, was able to spot a woodcock, killdeer, and kestrel which all seemed semi rareish since I've started. Any cool ones in PA I should be on the lookout for?

So glad our vids helped you get into birding! You guys should get some great migrants including all sorts of warblers soon if not now!
i'm waiting for my camera from an online shop, hope I can birding as soon as possible like you did,
"Eventually we ended up at a field"... why does that feel so common in birding now lmao

Great video! I’ve got some rare Red Cockaded Woodpeckers eating bark butter near where I hand feed my birds. I’m hoping they’ll come eat a mealworm from my hand 🐦🐦♥️
