Rae..get a clean jar and get some pool water and take it to the closest place that sells pool supplies. They can test the water at the store and know exactly water you need to add and how to maintain it. That is what I had to do and it was truly a blessing to take the guess work out of pool maintenance.

When we had our pool this is exactly what we did also. It will take a lot of shocker to start the season, then an assortment of chemicals to keep the PH correct and shock it periodically.

I agree. Not Home Depot or Lowe’s, but a place that specializes in pools. Get a test kit and have them teach you how to treat what conditions. The hotter the weather, the more chemicals are needed.

Excellent decision on the sand pump, that's 90% of the battle knocked out initially and continual maintenance going forward. When you vacuum, don't vacuum like you would the carpet but slowly drag it along, lift up off the bottom, extend out, then slowly drag it back. Wonderful advice on the clear jar! They can show you how to read the test strip too. Keep those results from the test, I suggest a notebook write the date and results and what adjustments you made for corrections. Clear jar test in a month and compare numbers and record adjustments. When I added things, I would slowly pour out the chemicals in front of the outlet flow to disperse them. You'll learn what things to pay attention to, probably gonna be ph and shock. By the end of the summer Rae you will be the pool maintenance champion of Doss Farms! I'm wondering how long it's gonna be before Rae fusses at Chad for getting in the pool sweaty and dirty. Then I'll know I'm not the only chucklehead fred that does that.

Rae your doing OK with the pool so far. Water clarifier can be added to make the water less foggy.. 😊 Don't use the filter cycle when adding chemicals, use the circulation cycle. 😉 When ever you vacuum the pool make sure to backflush your filter about 30 seconds or when water runs clean coming out. It's a learning curve and a weekly process you'll learn. Honestly ya'll the pool looks good... and if the water to fill was from the well, you will most likely battle other issues. ( something to think about and talk to your pool guys ) when problem solving 😊

Worse scenario I ever faced was when the kids came back from a beach vacation and brought their snorkeling equipment into the pool. Just enough spores to introduce an ocean born mold spore that cost over $300 to eradicate. Let my lesson serve as a reminder to pool owners - swimsuits and pool toys that have been in salt water can wreak havoc on your ph and chemical balance. Once the yellow slime was properly identified then the pool supply store knew what to treat it with. Costly and time consuming process.

Dump a bottle of clarify in the pool let it sit a couple days then vacuum the stuff off the bottom, might have to let it set again for a couple days again if you didn’t get it all .Just repeat until it’s all gone. Then worry about getting the chemicals right. Oh after you dump the clarifier in turn pool on for a good while to mix the water, then turn it off let sit.

Such fun following all the progress you all are making on your new property. You are going to make a huge burn pile from all the downed trees and fire wood. All the best to you all. So you didn’t get fired huh? Grandpa must not have seen where you fed the baby goats and how much you fed the chickens, the big goats and the dogs…. lol. Oh yea, you’re doing good. Tell Rae to get on the internet, UTUBE and there will be plenty of people on there able to teach you how to Handle a pool! You’ll be ok Rae….. you will learn. It is interesting Chad. I'm 60 and will never use this info that I learn from this channel, but I can use the info to teach my son how to do these things just in case. I even watch videos on hoof care for cows!

Not sure if Longhorns are any different, but Tipsy should be ready to breed again in about 60 days. She'll actually have an estrus in about 20 days. We never bred back on the first estrus. Unless you separate Maximus from his girls, he'll probably take advantage of the first one. The deck looks great! Rae, take a sample of your water to a pool store. They can test it & tell you what you need.

Love the idea of “surround steps/stairs” off the deck. It will make a great place for family photos and memories. My Uncle Charlie did it around a deck of a log cabin…. Amazing memories.

Pools can be a real pain in the rear . I had what looked like bobers with chlorine tablets. If it's really green u may need to drain half and refill. And scrub the pool sides and bottom once in awhile and when I switched the filters I would rinse the old ones out from inside let dry then reuse them hope that helps

Chad and Rea, might I suggest a few things I do for my pool. Our pool was green really bad. We bought a sand filter that was larger than what we needed for the pool. We added drop out let the algae sink to bottom and vacuumed it. Try to get as much leaves and debris as possible out of it. We then back flushed it every 2-4 hours through the sand filter. Eventually it became a light tint of green. When you back flush the sand filter it also will drain some of the water out. We only added water that we had to to keep the outlets barely covered for the sand filter to work properly. Once it was light green we closed off the sand filter changed the sand out and began the process over. The key was that the sand filter was bigger than what was needed for the pool. It made sure that it would cycle through the water in the pool more often. We only had to use drop out once and maintenance does of shock-it. The year that this happened we had lots of rain too. The other things to keep in mind is what minerals are in your water from the well. Often people don't realize that most people live in the city and city water is different than well water. After the pool became clearer we always used a floating basket with what I call hockey pucks (3 inches) in diameter of chlorine. I never used just the bag that said shock-it on it they sometimes sell two types. I always made sure I bought the ones where you could shock-it and swim the same day. I found that the sand filter is the key. Often people buy a sand filter that's just right for the pool. We have always owned one that was a size larger because the filter cycles the water through more often making it less time consuming to clean the pool. I hope this helps. But after we had gotten the pool clean we only had to shock-it a few times after heavy rain. As long as you keep the floating basket with chlorine tablets in it that's enough. Our pool had about two foot of leaves in it when I cleaned it. You might be better off changing to the larger filter and back flushing the sand filter out. I will never use another type of filter again. Thank you for sharing! Much love from our family to your family 💞
