Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.
We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)
So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.
Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this channel to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.
4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time!
After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time international traveling! And now we are in our 9TH YEAR of finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)
We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!l

It proves what I have said for years. Much of the world has gotten critical towards anyone who is Muslim. That is because they see radical extremist Muslims waging wars and terror. But the truth is not all Muslims are bad people and ignorant people don't realize that the Quran specifically states they must be forgiving to others. The radical Muslims rule by fear, indoctrinate hatred to the people they rule from a young age and lie to them to make them believe that they must live a life of feudalism. Oman is moderate Muslim state and the people want peace not war. That is why Nate and Kate found them to be extremely nice.

Ramadan fasting is essentially intermittent fasting light - without the scientific name 😃 Dawn to dusk is about 12h, intermittent fasting calls for 16 min. Very healthy. Also it's considered a private matter so a person working in a desert is completely free to have some water, as long as he doesn't make a spectacle out of it. Oh and the clothing he wears (being wrapped in it) actually reduces perspiration/dehydration - little known fact. Plus concentrated tea tricks 😃 Long story. You are hardly ever going to see an Arab in a desert gulping water - and then sweating it out in next 5-15 min like an idiot 😃 Body gets trained not to waste water as long as it's kept in approx constant conditions (wrapping in white cotton). When Ali saw Nate in black and shorts he probably panicked like "this guy is going to die soon" 😃 So, Nate, next time going to a desert just buy some local Arab clothes - head to toe 😃 Yes including the headwear 😃😃😃

I lived in Oman for 7 years. Rule No 1. Never go out into the desert alone. Always have a buddy car. Rule No. 2 Always tell someone where you are going to andd how long you will be. Rule No 3. Always carry a jack and know how to change a wheel. Rule No 4. Don't leave your vehicle and try to walk out. You will likely not make it.....The Wahiba Sands are fantastic, the real desert is amazing. But not to be taken lightly

If u had a lighter or even matches, spraying anything flammable around the edge of the rim and tire then lighting it, will make the rim instantly seat the bead of the tire. Farmers do this all the time with tractors

As a car tech, even some car tires that come shipped flatter then usual are a PITA to seat. We use something called the cheetah, its a small air compressor and it pushes all its air out into the tire at once and it helps seat the bead, ur doing that while filling up the tire with an air compressor lol. You guys got very lucky that someone came to help. Usually the other thing that works is a ratchet strap around the tire to help it squeeze it towards the rim walls. Something that can work is flammable liquid inside the tire then light it, it sucks all the oxygen out and pops the bead on the tire, its dangerous and doesn't always work. Glad you made it out safe and sound. Tire popping off the bead are a nightmare. P.S. That smell Kara loves, i grew up with, my dad is an Armenian priest and they use that in church :).

It's pretty good lesson about the extra strain partially deflated tires experience. The way I was taught in the army was to deflate tires once you are already stuck and then inflate them back up once you are free, but the training wasn't for sand desert so I don't know if it's applicable.

@@TealJosh Someone like Matts off road recovery would know about truck tires a lot better then i would lol. But out in the open that's tough if you don't have the right tools, really glad they were able to get the spare on. Lesson learned, make sure you have a jack and tools to change tires :).

In their situation, I'd have tried the old rachet strap first. However, I've never been let down in an emergency by starting fluid or wd-40. They likely could have found something, but with no experience, they could have had one bad situation turn into a true emergency!

Oh! I have so much to say! at 16:35 in, just as Ali was standing up from getting the tire on, he says, "humdilalah!" Which basically means YIPEE! Praise be to god! Also, we used to live in Abu Dhabi and we found that the Omani people we came across were all so nice!! I am glad you found that to be the case. Also, so glad you accepted the dates! If you come across a situation again someday, it is also polite to have small talk and ask how their family is doing. If it wasn't Ramadan, as you mentioned, food and drink would have been offered. Well done you two. Ali was correct, WE are stronger together. ps in the warmest months we used to turn our hot water tanks off that were in the bathroom, which allowed the water to get cold with the AC in the house then used that to mix with the now boiling hot water tank from the rooftop to get a not scalding shower!
