What they are really feeling here is the placebo effect. I looked into what this actually contains and it only contains small amounts of nootropics and some of them like GABA don't even cross the blood brain barrier. It also contains Theanine (found in chocolate) and 5-HTP. Neither are psychoactive or at all noticable over a short time on this scale. I was wondering if this at least contained phenibut, which would have a real effect similar to alcohol and benzos, but it is also physically addictive.

WARNING!! This drink has 5-HTP which is often used an antidepressant but you should never consume large amounts of 5-HTP if you are on an SSRI (zoloft, prozac, lexapro, etc) it can cause serotonin syndrome. Hence why Link may have felt wired instead of relaxed.

@@heliveruscalion9124 You are correct, that is extremely possible. I believe he's on an SSRI for anxiety -- you're not supposed to take 5-HTP with an SSRI. That one's a BIG no-no interaction, actually. That Link was only tense (and nauseated, which he blamed on the pickle juice) was lucky!

The reason why it may not be working for link is because he takes anti depressants if I do recall. And the ingredients that are in sun-chasers to make them mimic the buzz of alcohol are all natural forms of stress relievers that don’t work as well compared to antidepressants

If Link is taking antidepressants, he should not be drinking these. Sun Chaser contains 5-HTP, which can have dangerous interactions with antidepressants and other medications. I hope he doesn't feel any ill effects after this.

while i would be inclined to agree with you, usually terpenes are in everything and they have very little effect unless you mix them with other compounds, usually slightly paychoactive like caffeine or cannabis for a boost. plus they wouldn’t feel the tingly effect with just terpenes. on the website it says it has 5-HTP and GABA

They are amino acids and neuro transmitters, which access serotonin and melatonin in some way, but the "buzz" is a fair bit of placebo. L-theanine will give you the tingles a good pre-workout also gives, but this drink will in no way give you an alcohol like buzz. It's basically just a tiny bit more serotonin and some tingles.

GABA isn't placebo effect; I offered GABA powder to multiple people without telling them what to expect and they all independently reported tingling sensations.

If you look up the ingredients then you will understand the “buzz” … it contains popular ingredients usually found in energy drinks, over the counter anti depressants, or as individual supplements… GABA, Ltheanine, and HTP5 are the primary ingredients in this drink offering the buzz.

Hemp infused drinks have this calming effect that could also make a decent substitution for alcohol. They can be a bit pricey though.
