I’ve had dogs from breeders and have also rescued multiple dogs and cats from shelters. Both have pros and cons and everyone should consider their options carefully. Hopefully everyone has the opportunity to rescue at least 1 pet from a shelter during their lifetime.

Great way of putting this! I’m getting a dog from a shelter soon and I think that dogs in general have pros and cons. You just need to find a good shelter.

Also as someone who has a puppy and is doing heaps of training HIGHLY reccomend prime rolls for training I cut the whole loaf up into cubes and freeze them on ziplock bags and thaw them out to use! It’s the best for training because she doesn’t waste any time chewing on them!

I'm so so excited for you! I'm a first time dog owner as well and it's super exciting. I wanted a puppy to grow with my daughter and we chose a maltese x bichon.

I’ve never ever had a puppy or a dog of my own. I’ve lived with dogs before but they were never my dogs and I didn’t have that special bond with them. I’d love to get a cocker spaniel puppy from a breeder as my first puppy. I also did think about the shelter dogs and I do feel sorry for them but maybe in future we will have one from the shelter too ❤

It is soo weird to me seeing someone be sooo prepared with puppy supplies 😂Just because i got my puppy (Staffy) a couples weeks after moving into our brand new house too as a surprise birthday present 11 years ago (The greatest birthday present for me that keeps on giving and giving 😃) so i didn't that exciting shopping experience... It was more like a quick run to Coles on the way home BUT i've had 11 years of spoiling her with shopping sprees, so i've made up for it. 💖

She is beautiful! Congratulations. Be careful with roo treats on a tiny tummy, its quite rich and can cause poop explosions. We love those 'burrow' toys for our dogs too, my whippet has donuts he pulls out of a coffee mug 😂 Your toy and treat stash is very impressive. Be prepared to get addicted to Petcircle haha.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for getting a purebred dog from a breeder. I currently have a rescue greyhound, and he’s had so many issues with aggression, resource guarding etc that we can’t even go on holidays anymore as he’s such high needs. It’s shattered me 😢 it’s not his fault, but it’s been so tough. my previous dog was an ex-show dog from a breeder, she was literally the most perfect girl and I miss her so much. I know there are so many amazing rescue dogs, but I won’t do it again. This dog has destroyed my soul lol

Coker spaniels are the sweetes thing.... i have one she's 4

I got a puppy a month ago and it was a long time in the making since we lost our boy 3 years prior. Right timing for us as a family and she’s just settled in perfectly. We got her at 3 months old and she’s smart and such an easy puppy. All the best.

I agree. We bought only 3 toys. A unicorn which she’s obsessed with and 2 more tether toys which she’s not keen on. She’s also mostly obsessed with leaves and grass from the yard. I’m glad I didn’t go overboard as I didn’t waste money.

Of course. They rarely if ever have cocker spaniel puppies though which is the breed that suits us and our family.

I totally get why you aren't adopting especially if Nick has been wary you never know the history of an adopted pup and It's always better for an adopted pup to find their forever home and not to have to be rehomed later if they weren't good around potential babies extra. Rehoming is a wonderful thing to do if you have the time and patience but ultimately it's your decision and no one should shame you for that. My sister got a pup in January a border collie and I have to say she is nuts and a total hand full It's like my sister has a baby again lol

Please don’t feel like you need to justify your decision about getting an ethically bred puppy from a registered breeder! As someone who works at an animal shelter I see the animals at shelters daily and they all need SOOO much more work than a puppy, so many unknowns with their backgrounds and history! As someone who has worked and trained dogs for over 10 years I would not even be in a place in my life to adopt a dog from a shelter. That’s a dog you’re going to raise your kids around you need to be able to trust it! You have done your research and you have chosen a breed that suits your lifestyle and that is the most informed decision you can choose! 95% of dogs in shelters are big dogs and that wouldn’t suit your life style! Do not feel guilty! People will always have their options about adopting vs puppies and those people clearly don’t know the first thing about dog breeds and shelters! Mabel is adorable!

hey ella there’s an app we use for our pets! you can put in times for feeding, sleeping, playing, vaccinations, etc. nick can also download the app and see the times you did certain things with her, and he can also input times he does things as well for easy communication! it’s called “dog note” 🩷🩷🩷
