We Got A New Paramotor!

Ойын-сауық

Huge shout out to the folks at Aviator PPG for sending us home with an Air Conception 130 and an Ozone Mojo Xs. Jaclyn launches so much easier with this setup. On this flight, we cruised down to the river for her first 'cross country' flight. Definitely check out the links below if you're interested in this gear and/or training in central Florida.

Usually when the kill switch doesn't work, it's either a wire or the motor is dieseling. Dieseling is when carbon builds up in the cylinder and get's so hot it keeps the cylinder firing even without a spark. I almost think it was dieseling since in the video Jaclyn said her motor felt hot and you noticed the smoke from the exhaust. If a motor won't die because of dieseling, while in the air, hold the kill switch and go full throttle. This floods the cylinder with cold fuel allowing the kill switch to work.

The engine shutting down when Tucker pulled the spark plug wire indicates this situation was electrical, not a carbon issue, easier and cheaper to correct.

Hurray for AVIATOR PPG!!!!! You guys rock! I'll definitely consider you guys when I'm ready to train and get my gear! Tucker, this was so fine! As you document Jaclyn's training (really her just getting better at it and learning the finer points) your followers will also benefit and enjoy the flying! I know I will, that's for sure! Plus the folks at Aviator PPG will have some strong voices silently advertising their services and gear! That setup that Jaclyn test flew in Florida wound up being the ideal set up for her; light enough motor, stable enough wing, plus it handles nice for her and she feels safe - all important for anybody. Plus, she feels safe having you just feet away from her while her experience builds! You'll still have your solo adventures, but when you guys fly together, your relationship will also grow!

At the end of the video you asked for video ideas? I'm in! 1) I'd love to hear your thought process during acro. You can say things like, "Now I weight shift, pull brake, shift the other way. I like to see my wing above/below/at the horizon. When I was just starting a mistake I often made was xxx." I could go on but basically narrating your acro would be awesome. 2) Your idea of showing Jaclyn's progression is a great one. I can see her one month from now quickly narrating her own preflight inspection, launching in the air, and being more bump tolerant. You need a slower wing though, your speed ranges don't seem to overlap right now. :) 3) XC flight with me. Let's go across a state and make a series out of it. 4) SAT course (I bet instructors would line up to give you free training). It might add helico's to your list of tricks too. That's all that comes to mind so far.

Happy to add myself as a subscriber! Not for the flying, as I am content to live vicariously thru you. For now anyway. I want to convey my respect for the manner in which you present your sport and yourself. Not egotistical nor pompous. Rather as if the whole world is your friend and you want to share your passion with your friends. You show respect for nature, for others property and livestock, the common sense of someone much older in having fun in the sport while being safe and following the rules established for your safety as well as others. I look forward to each new video, as well as watching your perfect partner grow in her love of aviation. She has the perfect instructor. My thanks for what you do, how you do it, and sharing it with us...

My big take away from watching these is the importance of building confidence and comfort in the air. I can tell from her comments that she isn't comfortable with the bumps and turbulence (I can relate, I earned my private pilot last year, but I still don't like turbulence). I can see the benefit of having someone with more experience fly with you as a beginner to reassure you that what you are feeling is ok and normal. I like your decision making on landing, giving her the option to go around if it didn't feel right. I think you are doing a good job of building her skills. Way to go Aviator PPG by the way. I have become a fan of their company through your videos. When I am ready to train, I think I will use them.

  • @TuckerGott

Exactly, I'm glad to offer her perspective on what is and isn't safe. She may think it's time to land in light turbulence but really it isn't a big deal. I appreciate the feedback!

I'm at her stage right now and I can tell you 'i'm feeling cold' means, "I would like to feel the ground under my feet right now". Its really hard to admit that you're a bit scared or uncomfortable when you're doing something that is suppose to be the coolest most incredible thing in the world... I bet you've forgotten that feeling...;)

This is the language of an "instructor" who thinks they know what is best for the student. They say that men should never teach the women in their lives because it'll always end in tears. I'm telling you now, Jaclyn was saying the things that were on her mind and you were brushing them off. When she said she was cold you ignored it and instead kept flying. She said it again and you kept flying. Keep that up and you will not only lose a flying partner but also maybe a life partner too. Listen to her more closely. And maybe take some lessons yourself in teaching... the best doers are not always the best teachers.

  • @TuckerGott

    @TuckerGott

Heh, I just talked to Jaclyn about it. She was definitely cold, not just using it as an excuse to land. You can see her gopro shaking. Also, there are parts of the video/conversation that don't make the cut. We agreed to make it to the river. When we made it there and she was still cold, I asked her to climb for more safety and we turned around.

Hehe, sorry to play the life coach part and making some assumptions on my part having been there and done that some years ago. Girls don't have the fat reserves or body mass that us guys do and I find can be perpetually cold when I am baking (at least until they hit menopause lol). It's happened to me in snowmobiling, skiing or even just riding in the car. Sometimes it is best for all to just turn around, go land, bundle up and try another takeoff. Best of luck to you both!

This is so cool! The whole channel has changed now! With Jaclyn flying regularly we will get to watch a newby become an experienced PPG pilot. We watched Tucker but he was at least somewhat experienced when the videos began. This will be more informative. Congrats. Jaclyn on the new equipment! Glad you found a good set up that works so well for you. I am looking forward to you heading out with Tucker to the areas he has already shown us. I am beginning to feel like I know your area in Jersey pretty well! One thing I have learned is that (compared to enclosed fixed wing ultralights) ppging is COLD so you want gloves and warm clothing even when it is too warm to wear them at ground level. The ability to selectively shuck layers in flight or to at least open up ventilation is a great asset. I often cover my face and hands when doing "breezy" flying even when it is rather hot. Watch that pony tail. Try to find a way to really secure it from going back into that prop. THAT would ruin a day quick! Congrats again and have a lot of fun but don't forget to bring us along!

Please keep doing these videos. It's great for women to gain confidence in feeling that this is something that they can do....especially since she's petite. These videos could be really important to get more women in the sport. You should ask her what she thinks other women would be interested in seeing to get them excited about learning, maybe do a short series on that. Anyway, keep it up bro, I'll be up there one of these days when time and money allow. Peace!

Awesome seeing Jaclyn get in the air, and awesome of AviatorPPG for hooking her up! I do think it would be awesome to see her progress, as I'm about to start learning myself. The Sena headsets are great, but range is a bit limited, keep that in mind. I'm working on getting my Sena headset with the BT backpack to work with my Sony camera. With the right adapter cable, the backpack unit should be able to plug into any 3.5mm stereo mic jack on any camera, and it should work fine. Give Jaclyn a high five and tell her to stay awesome! Fly safe, y'all!

She's lucky she got the 130. AC is discontinuing it and focusing on the Nitro. MORE POWER! I can't wait to get back to work as that's what Santa is bringing me! E Start and clutch! After more research I've decided on AC as they seem to have the fewest mechanical problems and it's still within my weigh range. Now I wonder if you can special order a different color or have to do that ourselves to match the wing! LOL Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys!

When you’re a little nervous, you tend to shake like when you’re cold. Great flying!

When I first started riding motorcycles I always underestimated how cold I would get. Now I know if I'm not hot before getting on, I will be hypothermic when I get off. Layers and wind protection.
