We go to Holland to buy an Austin 1300GT

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Why would we do such a thing? Because it was 500 euro.
I said I'd leave Ryans details in the description. Well, he doesn't have a website, or an email and I don't want to leave his phone number. So, comment below if you want to get in touch and we'll work something out.

My father his first new car in 69 was a 1300 variant of the Austin 1100, might have been a signal red and black roof MG and by 1970 it was hanging, it all came to a head when me mum put her foot clean thru the floor so old man took it back to Bristol St in Beckenham who condemned it, gave him a fairly decent Herald 12/60 and wrote off most of his debt as compensation. Old man swapped the 12/60 for a sky blue 13/60 with a coupe top then in 72 bought a brand new Hillman Hunter 1725GT in the metallic turquoise which lasted him rain or shine for two decades and when the manager of Bristol St Ford in Bromley snagged it for himself it was on its original carbs, original clutch, original head gasket and aside from the bit above the headlamps rotting through the car was rust free hence why the chap at Bristol St grabbed it for himself and gave me old man a grand off a "lazy cossie" Sierra Sapphire with the experimental twin cam engine that could do 140 without sweating just crap paint colour and low end interiors.

The Dutch love old Brit cars, some friends of ours in Holland have a nice morris minor they brought back from NZ, only downside no heater ?? , they also have more cars per head of population than us, but use them far less thats why you dont see so many chubbers there thats going to be a nice car when its finished glad you enjoyed the trip, you must be related, because all of my overseas trips are about as well organised keep up the good work busy fitting extra shelves in my workshop, so I can get started on my crusty heap when I feel better

My daily driver is a Yorkshreman's Bentley... aka Reliant Robin MK2... however it does have Rolls Royce rear seats, well a set from a Robin 65 who had 65 sets made up out of Connolly leather in grey and red and I swapped my rear seats with them to match the MC2 seats I had installed in front... Might be selling it later this year wanting to go back to two wheels :D

Blame Brexit if you like my laddies but you do not pay import duty on goods from the EU. VAT yes but only over a certain value. I think you should be asking that agent for a cost breakdown. But what a terrific idea: rescuing old British crap cars from captivity in foreign lands! 🤣 That Dutch place were doing some fine work on British stuff though ....

Jesus whats with people in these comments? What 'woes'? 😏 The guy was conned if he paid import duty because none is due. Just VAT like all purchases anywhere but over a certain personal value. And talking of import duties when we were in the EU and you paid for goods from outside the EU you paid import duties. But you paid it to the EU not the UK Treasury. Any imports from countries without a trade deal with us now and the duties go to the UK Treasury not the EU. I like those kind of 'woes'.

@@1chish I have never had to pay import duties on any thing that I have bought in the EU. And that includes several vehicles bought in the UK and brought back to the European mainland. Inside the EU you may have to pay duties /tax on alcohol and tobaco depending on the amount you have, As a rule you can dispatch and receive consignments by post within the EU without any customs formalities. However, if you are receiving or dispatching alcohol, tobacco products, coffee, or products containing coffee by post from another EU member state you may have to pay certain duties. And if you transport it by vehicle

@@geordiegeorge9041 Please read my comment again. I said: "when we were in the EU and you paid for goods from outside the EU you paid import duties" Note: from OUTSIDE the EU. The tariffs were called the 'EU External Tariff' and that cash went direct to the EU. My specific point being that no import duties are due either way now because we have a comprehensive trade deal with the EU.

Oh give up. If you need to ask that question you haven't studied it. The guy was conned if he paid import duty because there is none under the trade deal with the EU. You think freight just wandered in with no paperwork when we were in the EU?

Nothing to do with Brexit as it happens. We had the same issues bringing trucks through while we were in the EU. You think there is no paperwork involved? And if he was charged import duty he was conned. Even the VAT only kicks in over a certain value (Cost, Insurance, Freight - CIF).
