We spent the day checking out three of Crete's beaches. We stayed in Chania so we focused on the eastern side of Crete.
Our first stop was Elafonissi Beach on the south east of Crete. It's probably the most famous beach we visited (and the furthest) complete with pink sand! We also found an octopus and we're still not really sure if we saved it... or if it was dead to begin with. He seemed to start moving around more and "breath" but we don't know anything about 🐙. Hopefully we did the right thing!
Next we went to Falassarna Beach which is less known but was actually pretty perfect. We also thought there was even more pink sand at Falassarna Beach.
Lastly we went to our beloved Nea Chora Beach right in Chania. It's so easy to get to and perfectly pleasant. No pink sand but you still get some beautiful views of mountains and there are PLENTY of restaurants and things to do nearby. And the sea life was pretty abundant here too!
There was one last beach that we REALLY wanted to visit but the logistics were just too difficult - Balos Beach. It doesn't have any roads leading up to it so we would either need to hire a 4x4 vehicle or take the ferry - but it appeared that most of the ferries stop running after Nov 1st and don't start back up until next season. I guess there's always next time..
