We've just been to the Philippines for more than six weeks (January 15 to February this year and back in Chicago March first). We are taking notes of your travel like Fatima Farms and Maples Farm in Ilo Ilo. We are planning to go back to the Philippines for business. Hi Bianca, that tree is what we call the enchanted "BALITE" tree. In folklores, it is used to housed a "kapre", a huge mythical creature that holds a tobacco and looks for beautiful woman during the night. So beware of that kind ot tree Bianca! And the hardest thing about in moving places is you are going to start all over again from fixing your home stuffs and knowing your new neighbors next door to know them and to build a new friendship again. Okay so much for that, hope you both shall have a good stay at your new love nest.

I was very concerned to hear about the strict lease rules. That ceiling sagging filled me with dread, that may be that was from water leaks in the past. So I'm glad the water issues seems to be confined to the tank. Also, those kittens are impossibly cute lol. I'm hoping that you are much happier in this new place. The location does seem to be ideal.

I think this new home will fit your needs, especially the up stairs balcony. was wondering if when the owners showed up with the paperwork, that you showed them the issues with the ceiling problems. this could be pricy if they don't fix it for you. yeah, it'll take at least a week to get everything settled in so its your home. so glad you decided to leave that money pit you were in. and little to no cooperation from the owners. I wish you lots of luck and enjoyment in your future.

It's nice to see that you got into the house you like and it looks like a nice one. Iloilo is a beautiful city and one of the best in the Philippines, but my gosh it rains a lot there. My wife had been at the family home in Dumangas for quite some time and I dropped by for a couple of weeks before we headed home to our place in Pampanga (San Fernando) but it hardly ever rains here, and that's one thing I love about this area.

Congratulations to you both! Glad to see you're settling into a new home. Your previous absentee landlord was a total ass. But sorry to hear you had water problems so soon. Your water bill is gonna be huge. Good to hear your new landlord has promised to fix what is broken. Those sagging ceilings are gonna need replacing, and if those are on the 2nd floor, then the roof and gutters will need inspecting soon -- before typhoons become more regular. Yes the overly strict lease contract is disconcerting. Seems to me that needed repairs have not been completely attended to. Typically, landlords rely on incoming monthly rentals for repairs, as well as to augment their own home budgets. If rental has not been coming in, as obvious from the previous months' zero electric bills, then, more than likely, they have not completed proper repairs. Not everything is more fun in the Philippines.

Anytime a homeowner go completely out of their way to hold you hostage for one year in the Philippines, that raises major red flags for me…I suspect you guys will unfortunately find many many issues with this place…. That’s a educated guess….based on all the documents they produced and how much effort they took to keep you from getting out of the lease…I’ve not seen a landlord go to that extreme

I just had an "aha" moment with your multiple power meters issues. Here in the states if you do an addition to your residence, and the original electrical service was say 125Amp service, and the addition will exceed that. You do an upgrade to the residences service. So like we did years ago, we upgraded our electrical service from 125Apm to 200Amp service to cover the addition. I'm guessing that in the Philippines when an upgrade is done to a residence, and it will exceed the original services capabilities, they just add a second meter, and it spins up when the additional systems turn on. I'll know for sure later this year when we do our addition to our PI province house. !!!-Mabuhay-!!!

It does have one but they realized they had to use the pump manually. We discovered this after the video was edited when the owners brother came. The city water goes into the house directly as well as one line goes to the pump. So if you don't turn off the city water at the street the house will backflow the tank and overflow from the city source. We will show what we learned on another video

Hopefully your new place is comfortable and no issues like before. I am moving to Ilo on November 2. Have an AirBnB booked for a month near Megaworld as I figure it will be my base for spending the month trying to find a western built house with no roosters, dogs, Karaoke or road noise...I know I'm dreaming but that's my goal. A recent video of your showed an area with multiple tennis courts. I would love to find a place near there as I'm an avid tennis player and if you can find a club with enough courts then you'll have a great base for fun and meeting new friends/players. If you could tell me where that club is and it's full name would be great....Thanks in advance, Rob

BGC is where we are moving, no dogs, no roosters, clean and everything works, no brownouts. You get what you pay for. Living in BGC is great, you can do side trips all over the Philippines, then return to a western style of living, like we all want. It is easy to go forward in life, but nearly impossible to go backwards, many say they can live in the provinces, that is because they can not afford more western style areas, so they put up with a lot. Not my cup of tea to put up with a lot of crap, but to each their own.
