Its simpler than it looks, you spawn hitboxes (fruit) with your buttons and when they merge with a hurtbox they deal damage to your opponent. A really interesting take on suika pvp if you ask me

So many small details in this game are brilliant! - The stage visually changes when the stocks are down to 1 vs 1 - Taunting in mid-air brings yourself into knockdown for supreme disrespect - centering the UI so percentages arent in a corner. Small things go a long way

The midair knockdown is actually really good for forcing special get-up for characters like Fleet who get something just for using the move. This is going to be a post KO ritual for Fleet mains, for sure.

God the UI being in the middle is such a big thing both for playing experience and especially future tourney/stream setups

34:25 Of all the characters of Rivals 2, Fleet is the most "no thoughts, head empty" after taking a look at her solo adventure.

Rivals 1 already gets so much praise from me for how refined the flow of movement and combat is, and holy shit, these new mechanics play around that beautifully while bringing in some extra familiarity from Smash and it looks like a TOTAL DREAM to play. I can't WAIT for this.

I was pretty skeptical at the premise of Rivals with grabs, shielding and ledges, but this looks sick actually, and having a good platform fighter like this readily available on PC will be such a blessing.

I don't have a good joke here, I just hope Rivals 2 can have its own community without workshop mods. We need more platform fighters.

Their Kickstarter is ongoing and they're currently working on stretch goals. They've said that the goal is to add all of the stretch goals to the game eventually, but each goal reached will ensure that they're there at launch (though the potential for more after that is there). So, with that in mind, as of right now, there should be 3 more characters at launch, with a potential 4th if the Kickstarter keeps going well, for a total of 10.

Rivals of eather devs are like the ones that best understand platform fighter players

Watching this is making me sad, because it is simultaneously at least 27 days before another video in this game, and also like a year until I get to play it myself. Seeing Rivals become relevant again and seeing people just have so much fun with it is amazing. Edit: also, cannot fucking wait to see Forsburn

Suika Week, Tetris Week, Mario with a gun, the year of Alpharad Gold has been fun but nothing compares to Jacob and Jo playing a platform fighter for 30-45 minutes. I don’t remember if they played Ultimate yet or not but revisiting custom stages like they revisited Endless easy would be fun.

God I remember getting clickbaited by alpha's "rivals of sylveon" vid from way back when. That got me interested in rivals & became of the biggest reasons why I wanted a PC. & now rivals of aether is my 2nd favorite game of all-time & rivals 2 is the 1st kickstarter I've backed & is the most trust I've ever put in an upcoming game release. :)

Jo seems to be having fun

Does this have options for the character outlines? It feels like the colors are making some of the actions ambiguous.

Thanks for showing this off, it’s very valuable to see more into how it plays. I hope they make Fleet’s voice less annoying because she looks fun to me. Or hopefully i can individually turn voice SFX down

I'm very hyped for Rivals 2, backed the Kickstarter day 1. I have complete faith in Dan and the team to release one of the best platform fighters ever. Jealous I can't try the game already.

Jo was an English teacher - can he explain the linguistics behind the casual English phrase "Yeah, no, that's fair"? He uses it and I've used it and I have no idea why the "no" is in there. I don't even say it in response to questions phrased in the negative most times.

I think "yeah, no" (not to be confused with "no, yeah") is a really common thing people in the Midwest (US) say, obviously not just the Midwest but I think that's where it's most common. Sometimes people say it to mean just "yeah" and sometimes people just mean "no" and you really just have to guess with context clues.

I think, as one who also says the “yeah no” and “no yeah”s, the No is sort of an indicator of “I’ve fully taken in what you said” because a typical “yeah that’s fair” sounds more dismissive and easy to say as a sentence that shows you weren’t fully listening, but the “no” shows intentiveness and consideration for the words said. In the “no yeah” instance I like to think of it as “n’oh yeah” and in the “yeah no” instance I think of “yeah (y)’know” it doesn’t have anything to do with the actual negative meaning of “no”.

I want to play this ao badly. The release date should be closer. Even got the 30 euro edition at kickstarter

Fleet having peach float means that the OG Workshop Quartet aren't coming back because that was Pomme's air Gimmick, since: -Wraster had 3 Jumps -Absa had a Double jump that went down -Ellianna had a hover -Pomme had float RIP Mollo, Hodan, Pomme & Olympia 😭

Fleet doesn't have Peach Float, it's a slow-fall. Similar but different. So there's still hope

Fleet is actually one of the protags from Dungeons of Aether. Hence her dice related ui stuff.

in Brawlhalla you can gravity cancel out of wall jump and do your special in the air, which means that some character actually have ledge get up specials..

Doesn't it seem somwhat absurd to put standard features like ranked play, tutorials and arcade mode behind stretch goals? Certainly functionality like that should be more important than the inclusion of addtional launch characters?

Ive waited so long for a rivals of aether Alpharad video thats not mods also i think the lighting looks bad for the win screens but other than that this game is gonna be insanely good

Did Alpharad say this? Cuz she only has like 5 Marth moves which is less than a third of her moves and all of the ones they share are shared with a lot of platfighter characters smash bros included

God I can't wait for SSBU Mario and NASB2 SpongeBob to be modded in. Same for the meme picks and maybe even some of the old legacy mods.

I doubt they will, but I hope they can bring Ori back. Ori was my favorite character from probably my favorite game, and I loved the gameplay.
