For those who are going to Istanbul, read this: always take the airport coach Havaist. They have comfy buses going to many parts of the city. The average price is only USD10! Of course the buses won’t take you direct to your hotel. Once you get to the city, their efficient commuter trains and trams should get you closer to your destination for just another USD1!! This is if you don’t mind the small hassle of changing from bus to Train. Way less hassle than getting caught up in a taxi scam!

Police in Turkey is trustworthy most of the time. Taxi trustworthy 1% of the time, more like 0.1%.

Over the years I’ve traveled most of the world with no real problems and soon will be going to Istanbul for the first time. After weeks of doing my homework I am more apprehensive about going to Istanbul then anywhere I’ve ever been. It seems like the whole place whether it be Taxis,hotels or just buying items wants to rip you off ?.

@@tetehl4731 It goes to Gayrettepe, from where you can take another lane, presuming that you meant Taksim as the city centre or other parts of Istanbul, Gayrettepe is a junction like Picadilly Circus.

Im in antalya right now and honestly what I'm hearing about the scams they do on tourists has convinced me not to ever visit turkey again.....ever

If you are a foreigner and take a taxi in Istanbul , you will be robbed, this is the rule. It happened to me also , they charged me the double price and then somebody told me that there is UBER in Istanbul. With UBER they never charged me more than the proposed amount by UBER. But even if they do that, you can ask your money back from UBER, so I believe that UBER is mostly a safe option in Istanbul.

If you are using a taxi, please pay the price written on the upper mirror. Pay cash, do not use credit card. And also, the friend in the video was not scammed. Paid a normal price.

If a taxi driver approaches you (not the other way around) and tells you they will do the fare for X amount and later ask for more, DON'T PAY MORE. This is absolutely scammy I don't care what the meter says. But better yet, stop taking taxis, just do Uber or any app where you can agree to the FAIR amount beforehand and it won't change.

I am going to Istanbul for the 2nd time this month end. The 1st time also I had to take the help of Indian consulate, and that's a long story . The consulate was helpful. I AM SO FRIGHTENED.

In Istanbul, there is indeed toll price in some cases and credit card commission is always taken from the customer in taxis (unlike in shops) - but of course the taxi should have informed you about that in the beginning.

I m Turkish.I m sorry what happened with your taxi experience in Istanbul.Unfourtunitly ,many taxi drivers behaving like that . Istanbul police must work on this issue more.Always take shuttle from airport and subway to your destination.

I had a similar experience, the fake toll camera, but instead of 900 he made us pay 1500 Turkish lira from airport to the old city center. It's sooooo frustrating! Because you know he is lying, but there is nothing you can do

Hi Hobarts. Trust me İ had a quite similar situation. İn my case it was not an Uber but a normal taxi. Luckily for me it was upon arrival to my apartment that he added 250 liras on top of the meter's indication. İt was the same explanation of toll fee. İ told him that İ was not going to pay that . İ treatned to call the police, he somehow lowered his standing. İ paid him less. Thank you for spreading this awareness. Surely many people have been victim of this scam

I just come back today from Istanbul similar experience . Booked via Uber makes no difference over there because they still charge what they feel like and you do not get a say . To be honest it is over an hour away to the main centre . Having said that I paid about 1100-1200 lira

Istanbul is terrible for taxi scams, I went in May. No one would accept uber for short journeys and they all wanted silly prices paying directly. We stayed away but heard so so many bad stories such as a couple being charged £120 for a 30 min journey after a heated argument

i feel the frustration, iv gotten back 3 weeks ago and was only there for 5 days, i got scammed in the airport for a shuttle bus, they advertise 19 euro but final price is 55 euro :(

happened to also us .. innitially he did knew english later when arguments aroused he forgot his english.. even v hd to experience the scam bootpolish .. cobbler ..these people are killing humanity.. but their karma is following them.

Im going to istanbul in a few weeks for hair transplant surgery. Ive seen a few of these scam videos and Im glad I know what to look out for. I know its not alot of money and I understand you like a person to be honest upfront but at the end of the day it was over just a few dollars and wasnt worth the stress you put yourself through. If it was me and I agreed with a taxi 600 lira, Id pull it out in cash and show it to him and anything he asks further I just say NO. 600 only. Id tell the driver Id offer a generous tip if he did a bit of a tour of the town for me.

@@Skeetex3 i used Heva clinic. Paid 2100 usd which included accomodation all transfers by private van. I did mine on 23rd Dec and left to come home the next day. Flew from Australia. There are many hair transplant clinics in istanbul and you will see many men walking around the streets and airport having only just had the surgery. I was very happy so its worth checking them out

Next time record and share the video asap with a friend, or to another phone. If you have to delete in front of them go ahead cause then you can tell your friend to resend the video to you.

I completely understand why you're so outraged! I've been living and working in Istanbul for 3 years now, and about 2 weeks ago my mother and sister came here for the first time for a weeklong visit. I rarely get taxis when I'm on my own, but I had to during my family's stay because of my mother being less mobile. I entered into 3 verbal arguments and one near-physical fight with drivers who were trying to scam me. The most frequent scam was asking for toll-related charges on top of what I had to pay every time we had to go from the Asian side to the European side or vice versa on the pretext that taking bridges or underwater tunnels required paying a toll, which they do, but it's already included in the total amount you'd have to pay on Uber or BiTaksi. Not to mention the unnecessarily long detours they took to make our trip intentionally longer. The sad part is, my family really enjoyed their time here but these experiences left a very bad taste in their mouth. It's a shame the authorities don't give a flying f*** about something that tarnishes the reputation of their country so badly and yet can be easily fixed.

My advice to all of you guys !!!! ..Never .ever...ever ..take taxis in Istanbul ...You can use either Coach or Metro line ...Now they have metro inside new airport ...start from Istanbul airport to kağıthane station and you have to change from there to where you want ..simple as that ...Hardly you find honest taxi drivers over there ...
