The 4WT they tested had fewer bugs the 3WT was running on earlier software. The RST should be quite good.

With our Blazer EV, with climate on, the charging speed will drop, but not forever. After about 5 minutes or less, the rate starts climbing again until a couple kw below normal charging speed. Our Ultium platform does appear to self correct that observed initial drop in charging when the climate control is on.

But why? Does the A/C compressor not run on 800V or something so it has to switch to 400V first?

@@TechnicalLee I’m just guessing that it takes a bit more power at first to heat up the heater coolant to a maintainable temperature to heat the cabin, then power demand drops off to just maintain the temperature. I’m talking from charging in a colder weather perspective though on what mine appears to do.

They didn’t have a consumer version of the truck. Supercruise does hands free driving on mapped roads. They are not out with that on Silverado yet. I loved Roberts intro to the race.

Given all the crazy differences with the trip planners (no connectivity in the Silverado??) it would be call to see a coast to coast using only the onboard trip planners. Have to follow it to a T from the get go.

You guys make a good point about having TOO much range. Most humans like to or HAVE to stop after 3 hrs of traveling(aka 180-200 miles), so the public "demand" of a 400 mile range vehicle is in error. Fast charging is more important.

If you have to stop after 3 hours, that’s not a long time. 5-7 hours should be easy to do. Stop gulping coffee and it’s much easier to go without stopping. I’ve gone almost 700 miles no stopping. A good 9 hours.

@@jackylsmith8138 with Kids? Baby that needs diaper changing? Doubt it.. It is also dangerous to not drive for 9 hours straight. You are in the VERY SMALL minority if you truely go 9 hrs(I doubt it that you do. Most people brag about it, but are liars). I'll take a car with 250 - 300 mile range and 200kw up t0 60% over any car that gets 400 miles and 150kw speed.

Fast charging and a big battery go hand in hand. Since everyone is using roughly similar batteries with similar maximum charge rates (as a percentage of capacity) the peak charging kW is going to be roughly proportional to the size of the battery, if not limited by the charger.

Well, kind of - I used to work at EVgo so happy to clarify. It’s a joint venture with EVgo, GM, and Pilot/Flying J. PFJ actually owns the chargers, GM contributes funding to this buildout, & EVgo maintains and operates the chargers as part of their extended network 👍

@@heyfrancie I was trying to point out that in the video it was said that it’s a gm unit so it should work on the Silverado and that is not always the case since gm doesn’t make the charger. Maybe they had tested it at EVgo. Kyle always thinks a I’d 4 should work on ea because vw spent money to get the network built but ea didn’t make any of the original chargers. ABB signet made most of them. I think people think it is easy for chargers to work all the time and Tesla is going to find out that it will have problems too with all non Tesla cars using it. They just repair them quicker but they were not perfect on the road trip either. Since you worked at ev go you should let people know what they go thru same with ea. Kyle goes to these places talks to the people and acts really nice with them but he and most of his team keep bashing them. Max is the worst about it and that helps no one.

@@wrefk Tesla had strings attached with their plug. It had to be an open and royalty standard, and now that it is controlled by no one OEM, it's safe for people to adapt. Remember, J3400 is NOT the current Tesla plug. It's actually different because it and only it can handle 1000v and higher current charging. The plug is a big bigger and sticks out more.
