People get so hung up on the off road ability thing but I honestly think once you get used to it being physically bigger you never look back, we’ve got a Silverado 2500 and can honestly say it’s amazing off road. With 35s and the factory rear locker the thing is unbelievable.

What was the fuel economy numbers? Be interesting to see y62 to hemi petrol v8

We did a year around Oz in a 200 series and 19ft offroad van. The width and weight was a pain to get in to remote places. The 200 was a beast though we were pushing legality with the weights.. We'll go again soon most likely in the new everest with a hybrid van. Save on fuel and get in to the less travelled locations. The right rig is hard to know for the individual. It seems the big rigs are sensational for families and retireies that stay close to the tar and benefit from being legal. So long as you can take the ktm you'll be right!

Nice Guys Power wagon is great but fuel would be a killer. At least a Diesel may be cheaper. But saying that maybe not. Your set up is great. Stay safe Cheers

Would be a kool upgrade. I love the Ram's, but think their too wide for most off road tracks. Also watch what the GVM comes out as. If you go over 4500kg your getting into LR truck licence.

We actually just did a week on a few tight tracks around here in Kenilworth and handled well! Yeah definitely, I think if your gunna do it you would go LR, opens up a whole new world! Thanks for watching mate!

Smiles for days in the trx, would a dwm chop help with storage and weight in tow rig vs van ? Personally love driving the 2500/f250 as they are built to haul no questions plus if you register as a light truck you can get the full potential but the $$ def Add up to my dream build costs range be interested to see what you do as order time might be away if You order a new one

Haha cheers guys, it’s a big call! Yeah gun shot maybe not, we just finished some 4wding in the ram so stay tuned for that! It went well!

I’m getting a reasonable GVM+ on my Toyota and the GCM will then be 7700kg once Qld catch up to other states.. it will track off road tracks easily and can still park in shopping centres unlike some other vehicles . Def these trucks tow a heap easier as Destinations Unknown have shown over the past couple of years.. parts and repairs in little towns would be my only concern..

Do the same rules apply to those who need big 4wd's as to other things? Sure glad I don't have to feed one of them tbh. A recent roadtrip in my fairly economical turbo diesel was expensive enough.

Not really sure exactly what you mean there mate.. The 2500s are actually good on fuel, if you don’t need a big car to tow a van to live full time in, don’t buy one mate! Just sharing our experience and journey as usual ☺️ Happy Sunday old bloke and thanks for watching!

Hi guys those are a weapon but so big ,a lot of tracks they won't go down. I would definitely be looking at another tow vehicle if you ,can not even tow with the patrol full water tanks ,because this makes it illegal for you to tow with patrol .safe caravanning.

What other choices do you have to tow 4-4.5 tonne and a big GCM and not be a big car mate haha? Actually took it down some tight tracks here in kenilworth, handled it quite well!

Powerwagon is really nice - pretty much dream tourer. But unless it is bought with cash, would not be worth it. Inflation through the roof, interest rates WILL rise to bring that back down, meaning any loan or finance you have will bleed you dry. On top of fuel costs, it's going to be very tough.

We split the difference. Bought a 2017 Ram 2500 for towing the van and touring. As a 7t set-up we average 20l/100km touring. We Kept the 04 Y61 for the tough stuff. You'll never find a golden bullet mate.

The golden bullet, The short body 1500 with the 2500 drive train. Or the TRX drive train.

Big trucks are the future, we too tow a Lotus with a 200 and we are right on the line as well. A big cost though.

It’s hard being right on that line and wanting to take a few more things! It is a big cost especially doing canopy etc, it’s a tough one hey!

But surely you'd be able to get a gvm and gcm upgrade for the trx

I don’t think so unfortunately mate gvm yes but GCM not sure. You sure wouldn’t be able to do a canopy etc on them!

Why not get a hino truck or old army truck. If you're only using it for towing, I wonder the costs of the ram to get up and running. These are more like trucks. The width and length of these make a lot of cars look like toys,

I’ve driven my mates ram 2500 done by ram trucks aus it was pretty disappointing to be honest the conversion was shocking he has now ordered a 300 and is going to chop it. I would hands down buy a ram 2500 or F250 if they were factory right hand drive but until then the cruiser Takes the cake for me!

Factory right hand drive would be sweet! Yeah I've heard stories on the conversions, scd seem to do a good job by going through the factory! Unfortunately a chopped 300 aint going to give you anywhere near the towing or GCM of a truck, all depends on each individual needs hey! Thanks for watching mate!

If u need a light truck licence watch out it's 0 limit with booze one sip and ya done mate if pulled over

If you want the best big tourer and 4wd wagon stick with the y62. Towing vehicle buy a truck. F 450 is good. Always compromise between each option unfortunately. Time to work out something new. Bit like gravel bike in the pushy world.

@@nzmarkb8713 a few say this but chopping a Y62 is going to put me even worse off haha a heavier car with even less towing capacity haha doesn’t make sense one bit. I personally would never chop a car, when you can get something luxury brand new like a ram

@@Travellingcampers I think i have the solution... Like the people that tow those little Suzuki Jimnys behind their winnebago's, you could buy the RAM and get a little hitch to tow the Y62 behind the Lotus! Use it as your 'run around' and for the tracks! Genius idea eh!!? Your welcome ;)

Sounds like decision has already been made. If you can afford it, there seems no point not doing it. The weight issue alone would be enuff to make the call in my book. And you only just put the air suspension into the Patrol.....damn.

Dont buy a RAM from those clowns... they cut corners when converting to right hand drive. Ram has now banned them from selling their trucks due to thier dogey work..

Ram Australia are doing a similar conversion to scd now. Met a bloke with one of the first asv converted 2500s. Steering is shocking. Vague makes grinding noises. Jambs up. He’s going through accc as he’s getting nowhere with ram
