I LOVE THIS BOOK! I’ve taught this book to so many students. It’s fantastic for teaching dystopian fiction. And my students DID read it….i think.

The Giver was one of those books that I genuinely liked but then saw the movie and now all I can associate with it is a grown man watching kids play war and then breaking down asking them to stop because he was “given” wartime ptsd

It’s important that people know that there is a sequels but it’s from Gabriel’s birth mother’s perspective and it’s about her leaving the community and going on an adventure to find her son

There’s technically 4 books in the series. Gathering Blue (Jonas is implied to be around) Messenger (Jonas is in the book and Gabriel is mentioned in the book) Son (Gabriel’s mom Claire is the m.c. Jonas and Gabriel come up later)

These are all the books after the events of The Giver (arguably I think the first I think is the best, but the others are great too)

@@user-ts2og7lc1z true! I read them all a long time ago, so I actually forgot that there were references to Jonas and Gabriel in Gathering Blue and Messenger, though I knew they were in the same world and, if I recall correctly, there are characters from all of them in Son. Doesn’t Jonas marry the main character from Gathering Blue? Or was that just my 15 year old conspiracy theory brain?

Genuinely in love with these podcasts, and the way you guys can improvise an entire plot off eachother's dialogues, is just phenomenal !! This felt more like a reminder to loosen up a lil in life, and gives a new perspective to these classics that i could have never imagined. just hoping you guys never stop making these. looking forward to the next one!! Love to Hyde,Grace,Julia n Ryan
Id really love it if yall have subtitles for these videos!! Ive watched every video except for the ones without subtitles lol All of this is /not forcing of course!! This is yalls channel and you guys can do whatever you want with it!!

I love the conversation julia led about The rat race, very validating to hear when i live in such a competitive city and constantly feel like there is no humanity to be found
11:59 the visual of the director yelling action, the music starting and Jonas just flopping on to the ground is so hilarious to me 😂
Congratulations, Julia!!! So happy for you!!
this was the most unhinged episode yet. i'm deeply impressed

Literally just finished reading this f🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh btw congrats Julia for graduating
This was great, I needed to study for my test next Friday for the book
Bro I loved the giver so much when I read it and even more when I saw the movie.
For the happy memory question, I have two. One has been my happy memory for a while and one that I only started thinking about recently. The first one was me and a friend sitting outside at 4-5AM on my birthday as the sun was coming up and the world was so silent and smelled so fresh. The second one is one from a while ago that I only recently started going back to a lot. My best friend that I had a crush on leaned his head on my shoulder as we both sat in the backseat of a car on the way back from a friend’s birthday. I remember exactly how it felt, how I felt, how his shirt felt, how the car felt. I miss him. Both are pretty gay memories ngl
I am reading this in school right now🥰
I think this is the first I didn't read it I've watched where I actually didn't read it.
This book was my favorite teacher's book.... he named his kid after Jonas! I also owned this book but honestly this version of the book is quite interesting lol

i loved this book when i read it in middle school (i ended up reading the whole series lol) so im so excited to see this (also imo the movie does not do the book justice)
this one was my favorite so far, maybe it’s because it’s the only one i’ve read 🤷♀️
i remember my sixth grade teacher reading this to the class
as this series goes on, I’m realizing how many of the ‘classics’ I’ve actually never read 😅
I read this last week lol

I had to do a book report on this
dude, im literally reading this story right now for school--
In my seventh grade class, the teacher assigned us occupations that were in the book. The thing was, she was very biased, so you could tell who she liked by what she assigned them to be. I got the receiver.
congrats on graduating
