We Camped In Morocco’s Monkey Forest | Exploring Ifrane National Park
We’re back again and this installment of our Morocco road trip in our self built campervan is not to be missed!
This week is absolutely action packed as we start the long journey back up north, taking in plenty of awesome sights along the way.
But before we’ve even got going, we almost get scammed by the Moroccan police as they pull us over on false pretenses and demand that we hand over cash to be able to carry on with our journey.
After managing to avoid being ripped off we stay the night in Morroco’s famous monkey forest in Ifrane National Park which, whilst an incredible experience, is not exactly what we expected.
We then head on to Meknes, a city packed with history and somewhere we’d been super excited to visit. Only to discover that this spectacular, former capital of Morocco is currently a building site.
The week ends on a high, though, as we take a trip to the extraordinary ruins of Volubilis, a unique Roman-Amazigh city that is bursting at the seams with history.
It’s an intense ride this week as we continue to pick up the pace, but we’re loving every minute of it. Oh and let us know in the comments - would you have given in and paid the police or played hardball like we did?

As a Moroccan I'm glad you shared your experience with this particular police checkpoint. I'm sure you passed many before where the encounter was smooth and lovely, however people need to know that this sort of behavior still exist to varying degrees. The majority of moroccans are good people whether it's the authorities or the public, but this doesn't mean that you won't encounter a few bad individuals along the way. I hope you have enjoyed your staying in my beloved country and i really hope that someday you'd comeback. May god bless your family 🙏🏻
There’s always a bit of evil in every corner of the world I hope that this experience didn’t change your perspective of the country. We’re happy to have such a lovely family visiting our beloved country ❤ Good luck with your journey.
Sorry about the incident with the cop. So glad you didn’t cave in, well done. Unfortunately corruption does still happen even though the Moroccan authorities are cracking down on it hard as it messes with the countries main source of revenue aka tourism. Love the blogs. Your energy is infectious. The good vibe family. God bless you all ❤

We were more annoyed that it woke Ady up than anything 😅 But we have heard that corruption is being stamped out in Morocco as you say, and we haven’t actually encountered it anywhere else so it’s just one of those things. So glad you’re enjoying the videos, thanks for the lovely feedback ❤️

Tourism isn't Morocco's main source of income, it's around 7%, but it employs a lot of ppl, and Morocco need every Dollar or Euro it can get its hand on to be able to pay other countries for Oil and Gaz that it lacks as they can't use the Dirham for any import really

For the record, the Romans did plenty of "salvaging" around the Empire, they used the remnants of ancient cities or cities they freshly destroyed to build their own colonies. Many Carthaginian cities in North Africa are now lost to history because of this practice. The Spanish learn from them and did the same, notably in Central America and in the Andes. You guys are awesome and underrated, keep up the good job! You have one more subscriber! 😊👍

Thanks for visiting Meknes. I know now lots of renovations going on but I do appreciate your visit to My home town where I was born. There still a lot to see I wish I was there to show you around. I am in Canada next time if you are back.
Volubilis is absolutely stunning. I loved this site. The mosaics were stunning and amazingly they were left completely uncovered.

I love everything about Morocco. The unique and diversified Arab, Amazigh, Sahraoui cultures, the hospitality of the ppl is not to be find anywhere else, the various landscapes but those corrupted cups must be hold accountable for their irresponsible actions. The country´s reputation is everything and must not be destroyed by such ppl with low low values

We, Moroccans are familiar with their tacticts, hence we drive slowly at the sign "halt" and stop completely at the sign "stop", but we make sure they have seen our complète stop before we move forward, or wait for them to wave for us to drive on. Thus we make sure to avoid paying a fine or bribing them, the lesser of two evils 😄

Yeah it’s a tough lesson to learn! And especially because we never encountered it before that, even when we had been stopped the police were always very friendly. We were very fortunate that we didn’t need to pay in the end 😀🙌
21:05 the prison is called Kara it's probably 300 years old. Among the slaves were europeans slaves as well captured by the moroccan navy back in days while crossing the mediteerean or the atlantic sea and not paying the toll of crossing 😊 Meknes city and the prison were built by Sultain Moulay Ismael one the most powerful sultans of the Alaouite Dynasty that still in power till these days. One fun fact about that Sultan is he had almost a 1000 sons and daughters ! He had a hareem of more than 500 wives and concubines 😊😊
Loved this but, not the corrupt police. Overlanding sophia said, ok I'll call the British embassy, that did the trick and carried on their way. Oh dear, I do hope you are all OK, after hearing next week's intro. Take care x
You should have made note of the incident and challenge the police officer for his ID and badge number to report time and location of the incident to higher authorities. A rotten Apple must be removed from the basket.

Volubilis itself is built on the ruins of an ancient Moroccan Amazigh city, as Lavoisier (French chemist) said: "Nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is transformed".
Moulay driss zerhoun doesn't have much to do with Volubilis, the city of Volubilis remained substantially intact until they were devastated an earthquake in the mid-18th century and subsequently looted by some people for some buildings in Meknes. It was not until the latter part of the 19th century that the site was definitively identified as that of the ancient city of Volubilis
Please call 999 and tell them about incident and where it happens I'm sure that they will punish him especially if the complaint comes from a tourist

Listen, I'm a Moroccan, and you need to report the cops who stopped you so they get a bribe. There's a crackdown on corruption in Morocco, and it will help the authorities and other tourists if you report this incident not to a local police station but to the main quarters in one of the big cities. It sucks.
Hello lovely family, have you film the police faces ? if yes please can you share it on internet with the time and place of the incident because we can't let them continue their misdemeanor ! they must be arrested ans punished for sure and thank you for the videos

Corruption is a scourge that must always be denounced, and you did well to talk about it. It's quite rare in Morocco, but exceptional cases does exist, shame on these people. Let's hope that your video is watched by someone of the authorities, and that he does the necessary.

Sorry you had to deal with a corrupted officer. Given that you were in a rural area, I believe it was a gendarme (in grey uniform), not a police officer (dark blue uniform). You should report him guys. They have a camera on their chest that they must keep it switched on at all times. They can verify the incident and trust me he will get punished!
Not monkeys but apes as they have no tail. There’s five packs on the rock of Gibraltar.
You should use a dash cam to show to the cops as proof
You can bet it’s going into their pockets; it’s sickening but it happens a lot. Hope it doesn’t happen to you again. Stay safe beautiful family ❤️❤️❤️

You should report this to the police. there is a number for corruption.shame on them . Actually by this video he will be in trouble for sure they going to catch him.😮
Film them next time so they can know who they are, they usually get fired straight away
Never pay a corrupt police. Threaten to report him to the governor. He could well lose his job.
If you have the record go to the next police station and put your arguments they will pay you back
Mr hamouchi won't tolerate this kind behaviour .you will see.
You should call the anti-bribery number
I wish you had footage of the incident. UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR BY THESE OFFICERS PERIOD. On behalf of all my Moroccan compatriots I sincerely apologize and hope that It won't happen again.
Fam you should report the cop, he'll lose his job and be blacklisted, and he deserves it. A fine should never be paid without a ticket.
file a complaint pls
