The Fant mod allows you to use the Sun Shake machines as a storage container for all food items. It also allows you to craft a single Sun Shake for 10 Metal-1, 5 Bananas, and 1 Milk, which is actually a net loss since a single Banana and Milk provides more food and water than a single Sun Shake does...

Pulsing thrusters reduces their thrust by the same amount as their fuel consumption, so you don’t gain any efficiency. However, it would be more efficient if you used variable thruster pulsing for height control instead of rotating the thrusters, because then the thrusters could always be angled at e.g. 75 degrees which would direct 96,5% of the thrust directly downwards. Right now, the thrusters seem to be angled at around 30 degrees on average which only directs 50% of thrust downwards. In my experience this also would improve controllability because the response of pulsing logic is near instant compared to rotating bearings.

for your next chopper instead of a claw to carry the farmers just maybe try a box framework with a bar that comes across the opening like a door, you wont have the problem of trying to get the farmer to stop directly under the center since it has only 1 opening, you wont have the problem of the bearings on the claw straining while trying to hold on to the farmer and you can expand the box design to fit 2 farmers at a time.

  • @halvik5852

THIS is why they should put a sensor array behind the pilot's seat as the kill switch. Just put three sensors in a line with the middle sensor in the middle of the seat and the sensors will detect you while you are in the seat but can kill it the second you fall out. Scrapman uses this method on his mobile base in his nomad series to deploy/fold up his base when he gets in to drive or gets out to do stuff.

  • @pascal2085

That's why you should install a dead man switch or simply use a button. With your two seater setup the front seat has to hold the button to generate lift while the other seat controls the helicoptor. Or use a sensor setup like ScrapMan in his Hank-Tank.

I did do some testing a while back with pulsing thrusters. It wasn't what you would call a definitive test, but it would seem that pulsing thrusters does save fuel at the cost of thrust. You can of course compensate by turning the thruster up a bit, but that uses pretty much the same amount of fuel as not pulsing them. I came to the conclusion that if there is a way of pulsing thrusters to save fuel without compromising thrust, then I don't know what it is.

While that variable tilt thruster idea makes it very controllable it uses SO much more fuel. I made an odd flier and I'm not sure others have done this. I make it like a car with the 4 thrusters connected to bearings powered by and electric engine. I leave it on the lowest speed and put some stop blocks so it can go all the way forward to all the way back to provide lift and thrust. Then I use a suspension glitch to steer (with the bearing at only 2%), another to stabilize it, and a third connected to a controller (right button) to tip forward as it angles up when thrusting a tiny pit and this brings it back down. The thrusters on only the left button. This makes it VERY easy to control. I have a gas tank, a beacon, a storage container, some headlights, and a bed. I put about 6 concrete in the front to help balance it when going up and down. I probably get 3 times the distance with the same amount of fuel and likely go faster. I did build temporary stilts so I could cage in a farmer and I could carry him fine. I do not want to leave it on as it adds a lot of weight I do not need most of the time. I use the flier for exploring and roof hopping cleared warehouses for the loot chamber. I just load up a bunch of fuel and a 10 beacons and go wander around marking warehouses and farmer locations. Then I go get the RV and load usually around 3 farmers onto it. I have had the game kick me out of the seat for some reason and even though my thrusters are on a button and not a switch it still took off. I have a beacon on my flier though so tracking it down is much easier. Sucks you just refueled it.

@@Dozav7 Ya, it does alright. Its attitude is provided by electric motors, because they seem to be silly power efficient. I've got one 2-axis gyro for orientation detection (pitch, roll), and 3 single-axis control moment gyros for attitude control, all powered by electric motors with a single battery box that lasts basically forever (i've never had to refill it) pitch and roll are not controllable (it keeps itself oriented flat) so all you need to worry about is forward, and downward thrust. Downside of it all is that it uses 12 thrusters (6 for lift thrust, 6 for forward thrust), and probably 40 or 50 logic gates as a "flight computer" (PWM generator, selector, automatic pitch/roll attitude control, unexpected-exit safety shutoff), so it wasn't cheap by any means, but the suspension glitch bugs me (mostly because its stabilization effect feels *really* unnatural), so i was stubborn about not using it. Ultimately though, it seems to fly a LOT better than any of the glitch survival fliers I have seen

@@scottwalker6386 - That sounds incredible and worthy of a series of videos! I can’t even imagine how a 2-axis gyro would even work! My flyer just has 4 thrusters and a 12 logic gate setup that deactivates whatever thruster for the direction I want to head towards. If the main thrust is off, then it enables the opposite thruster instead. Very simple, but requires a lot of practice flying. Moving the fuel tanks and storage to the perimeter of the craft helped stability quite a bit.

Ultimately, the fuel response is linear. If you fire the thruster at a 50% duty cycle, it will use 50% of the fuel and produce 50% of the thrust. This means there's no efficiency to be gained by "pulsing" alone. However- it does allow for the creation of a more efficient flier, because you can avoid off-axis thrust, which is wasted fuel. (I.e., every degree off-vertical of your thrusters in a level hover is a decrease in lift fuel efficiency of 1.1%)

  • @Lucas-dy4or

Might make it easier to get the farmer centered under the claw, if say the back two fingers were stationary. Kind of a late response, but I do play scrap mechanic a lot, and pulsing thrusters significantly reduces thrust, in fact, 50% on 50% off gives 50% thrust, I use this a lot for analogue control of thrust using pulsing systems that are 0% on, 25% on, 50% on, 75% on and 100% on for tilt controls on flyers using fewer thrusters. some Gyros also use a system with controllers that pulses sensor outputs based on how far it is from the centre so you can hook it straight to stabilization thrusters, and it will have gradual analogue stabilization in vanilla.

They should put pistons on either side of the claw with a block on the endto mean you hit it against it to get it into place and they can be retracted separately for use on either side

well kan i dont think you will skip the guy in the comment that knows of the gas canisters, because there is just no way to cleanly make it suck out of a chess only straight from vacuum pumps but would probs be too janky for such a small gyrocopter. so you can just ignore everyone who knows thinking to have the answer haha

IF farmers have no weight then maybe have a 3 way clamp system and have 2 clamps on the sides so that it may be more efficient. (Sorry if this is a dumb idea)

The chopper has a slight imbalance that makes it slowly tip backwards... probably a little weight distribution... but then again, that's what made it crash when it decided to go joy riding, so there's that. The pulsing thruster thing still does work... you can fine tune the timing of the pulse, and the power of the thrusters, to make the vehicle neutrally "bouyant"... and then you have a button on your console that full fires the thruster when you want to go up... I usually leave it so that in pulse mode, it sinks slowly, and that's basically my landing speed... with a pulsed setup like this, it will never just take off on it's own... and even if you accidentally jump out of the seat while flying, its natural tendency to sink will eventually bring it down if the fuel doesn't run out first. Another option is sensor that detects pilot and shuts off thrusters if he's not there... it's kinda twitchy, cuz as your character "jiggles" in the seat sensor detection goes wonky, you can solve with more sensors, but meh... love you guys' videos!

Maybe have a sensor checking if someone is in the driver seat connected to the engines so it cant fly off without anyone flying it.

i always wondered about using pulses to adjust lift like having different stages of gradually increasingly faster pulses maybe using and gates to add more ticks to the loop not sure how the automation would work

It works. My flyer does this. It's called pulse width modulation. Building a PWM driver is pretty easy. A loop of logic gates, with an equivalent number of PWM gates that are OR'd with every loop gate lower on the stack than them. The selector logic (to pull a specific PWM gate into the actual thruster drive gate) is a bit more complicated, but if you don't have mad logic chops, you can just select a few with hard-placed switches. Plus the thrusters look really cool when you're doing it.

When Scrapman did the test in his survival world, he pulsed thruster ran out AGES before the constantly burning one. So dont listen to the ones using 100 year old knowledge. Or just run a test yourself. Also R.I.P. helicopter ('-')7

Do farmers still have the one weld spot on the top/bottom of the cage? Not as cool as a claw chopper, but could just place a few blocks on the bottom of the chopper and weld multiple farmers to it then break those blocks to drop them. Would have to have an even number for balance obviously
