We BUILT a Galapagos Tortoise SPOUT!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The cement rock pond that is the center of the Galapagos tortoise enclosure was the very first feature we ever built in the first KZread episode we ever made here at Kamp Kenan! But it has one flaw, it runs dry often and has no accessible supply line. Today that all changes as we attempt to build a water spout that will keep this watering hole filled with H20. You could probably cover it with some concrete and match the texture to the rest of the pond. Maybe cover it with some type of cloth so the concrete doesn't set directly against the plastic tubing.

  • @brockn7878
    @brockn7878 Жыл бұрын

    Maybe double up on the bamboo. Next size up encasing the first pieces. They will eventually bite through those zip ties . So 2 layers will keep them from the tube If and when that happens.

  • @Whips_World
    @Whips_World Жыл бұрын

    Wirg close to a million subscribers, one of them has to have the means and knowhow to bore through that concrete. Reach out and find them. Invite them out and git-er done. 4hat way you eliminate the eyesore and the need to potentially repair/replace the tubing as it gets "nibbled" on.

  • @brendapatterson7123

    Very cool project! So much easier than running water lines in Canada, ours have to be buried a minimum of 6 feet to avoid them freezing. I wonder if spray painting the poly tube to match the concrete would make it less noticeable to the tortoises

    Kennen I don't think that bamboo that bamboo is gonna lasts. You are going to need to use something stronger. You can keep the bamboo there but here's a suggestion. Cover the bamboo with concrete. It won't effect the tubing because the bamboo is covering it. And the Tortoises won't try to eat it. Out of Site, out of mind. Plus you will be able to just pull the tubing out from the concrete because of the bamboo covering over it. And you can make the concrete look like it's always been part of the pond.

  • @GregTalkington

    @GregTalkington

    Жыл бұрын

    I had the same thought as well. Concrete is the way to go. Plus, if you added some rocks as well you could then make it look like a spring bubbling out of the ground instead of a pipe emptying into the pond.

  • @davidvento5481
    @davidvento5481 Жыл бұрын

    Good idea. I might’ve suggested threading the polyvinyl water tube through a larger pipe (either heavy-gauge PVC or metal) just under the section that crosses the driveway. Then the vehicles can’t compress it over time with their weight. You can also plant a hardy (non-toxic) vine and train it to grow up that bamboo to obscure it. You may need to protect it until it gets established. Trailing Rugosa (beach roses) have edible rose hips the tortoises would enjoy eating for extra vitamin “C.”

    Looks good but maybe build some kind of box ot something to protect the elbow on the water pond. I have a feeling he's gonna keep testing it till it's busted. Or even like one of the box's you put around electric, for the outside it has a pop out in the back and bottom perfect for your water line and since it's a tough metal it can be screwed right into there water rock. May have better luck and to hide it do like maybe a bamboo fence like around it leading up to the main spout. Just a 💡 idea..
