Good work there. Corner lots are usually a lot more valuable because of the possibility of another building with it's own private side access, so not an easy decision to block off the ready made gate so permanently, but the owner must know what they are doing.

Yea, that gate was relatively new but they didn’t get any use out of it so we built it out with block again.

Should you put in rebar vertically when you add the two row of blocks on the existing wall?

Yes it is recommended if the existing wall is solid grouted. If it’s not you should solid grout it and add rebar vertically. Wouldn’t hurt to throw a horizontal in as well.

When you stucco the joints, what are you using to prevent cracking? I have a horizontal control joint and I also joined an existing wall but the stucco is cracking at the seams.

I'm surprised that the city let you build higher than 6' in So Cal. I had a hard time trying to extend my perimeter block wall taller than 6. Always good stuff on your Chanel.

I know that most all people that have block walls @ 6' high or 12 course will not get a permit to go higher, but I felt that I needed to get a permit to go 2 courses higher than 6' because I didn't want anyone of my 3 neighbors changing their mind later and calling the city to have me tear it down at my expense. My inspector told my that i was the first person to get a permit passed to raise a 6' block wall in my So Cal city. It is very hard to do with the seismic conditions that we have here.@@RHEC1776

@@RSST662 in California it’s all about the additional earthquake standards. Some local municipalities limit the fence height to 4 feet tall or permit needed. Rules are in place because someone else ruined it for rear of us. unlike this channel, homeowners made masonry walls without rebar. Seen this plenty.

Why damp proof a wall that's exposed to moisture and water on both sides, at the top and ground water? Should have added weep holes. Since the bottom of the wall is acting as a retaining wall, those narrow blocks would be subject to collapsing over time. I would use a wider block for the base courses. The additional top two courses should be attached to the existing wall with rebar. Its a done deal now but something to keep in mind in the future.

Code required 6 foot high maximum property block walls go largely unenforced, well... until neighbors whine and complain because they get denied when trying to get permits to do same. Then there's often fines and sometimes demands for removal/adjust to code.
